  1. Dang, Cruz has 9 HRs. The Twins have 8. Twins bats aren't this bad are they?
  2. Oh rly? When I celebrated Thanksgiving we ate turkey and taters. LIKE AMERICANS!
  3. Has anyone actually gotten full on sushi? Srs question
  4. Its broken into age groups. If I'm reading their chart correctly, MLB pitchers in the 16-23 age group return to pitch again at the MLB level at a rate of about 75%. edit: Re-reading your post, I understand what you mean about other reasons (eg. ineffectiveness). Maybe a better grouping to look at is the 24-27 group who return at about 85%.
  5. I could be wrong, but I suspect there might be some familiarity bias creeping into the discussion. Most of us remember Aiken lapping what was deemed to be a strong pitching class last year. The experts tell us this year's class is weaker, and the names are unknown to a lot of us still (me for sure). Just a thought. I doubt we'll look back in 10 years and not find a dozen or so really good players taken in the first couple rounds, like we can for most classes.
  6. Buxton batting 180/240/300. Um no he doesn't deserve a promotion right now.
  7. There are studies of TJS success rates using larger samples, like this one from THT last month http://www.hardballtimes.com/tommy-john-surgery-success-rates-in-the-majors/ The conclusion, one in five MLB pitchers to get Tommy John won't throw another pitch at the MLB level. The return rate was slightly worse for pitchers who had surgery between age 16-23 (although they logged more innings). It's too big of a risk to take at 6 unless you believe the post TJS upside of Aiken is so great as to dwarf the healthy alternatives, which I find incredulous.
  8. These guys had TJS after they began their development. Thus their team-control years are less shortened by the theoretical 8 year lifespan of a 2nd elbow.
  9. TJS success rates are good but they're not so good that you take one at 6. Too much of a reach IMO. Heck, taking Giolito at 16 was considered a reach by a lot of people. And he hasn't even cracked AA so I wouldn't consider it an inefficiency just yet. Its just too risky for 6 IMO.
  10. Rock sounds like an inverse hipster. "Baseball's not going to be cool tomorrow because African-American kids aren't playing it today."
  11. Here's the thing with Aiken. Evidently there's an opinion that a normal lifespan on a 2nd elbow is 8 years. Don't ask me who holds that opinion or how scrutinized it is. But it seems plausible, right? Aiken was born on 8/16/96. He would spend at least 3-6 years "developing" in the Twins system, right? How much of a useful life would that leave your 6 overall pick? Not enough to even take him to FA. Not if there's any truth behind that 8 year number.
  12. Alright, a compromise. In the current scheme, there are days Santana is going to be benched just to get Escobar in the lineup and keep him "fresh." OK, why not stick him in the OF on those days isntead? He loses no PT at SS and he can displace one of Schafer/Robinson.
  13. I don't think everyone has the same ideas about rebuilding. Particularly when it comes to FAs. There are some that seem to think a FA signing by definition is counterproductive to a rebuild where others tend to look at it as another avenue of growth. I know I was in favor of the Twins making a small number of high dollar FA signings in recent years, the type likely to return something in trade or a QO, while making the product more enjoyable in the interim.
  14. If I'm Pinto and I'm being kept in the minor leagues for a 10th year to "get everyday at-bats" or "work on defense" then I'm going to get the hell out of dodger after this season. There is nothing for him here, the Twins has proven that over and over.
  15. What about when the 9th batter is guaranteed to finish his PA. Bases empty, or one out, one on. Does anyone use the term then?
  16. I changed my vote from 9 to 10. I realized I never heard the term on the 9th batter, you only hear it after the 1st batter steps to the plate for the 2nd time. "With Santana's clutch single, Hunter will step to the plate for the 2nd time this inning and the Twins will bat around" or something like that. You never hear "with Santana being the 9th batter this inning, the Twins will bat around." Am I wrong?
  17. Which is less likely, Kelvin Herrera throws behind a batter by accident, or Morales goes the whole game with his shirt tucked in?
  18. Which is less likely. Paulo Orlando gets a hit that's not a triple, or Suzuki gets hit?
  19. For anyone else listening on the radio tonight, drink when Gladden says "Al-see-dees" like he's some kind of STI
  20. Yeah Suzuki kinda renders the whole "emergency backup" question moot.
  21. Honestly, I don't see what all the fuss is about. Maybe I'm just missing things. Outside of that one KC game, Santana's looked fine to me. He definitely hasn't cost the team 6 runs or whatever DRS says in a nothing 15 game sample.
  22. Addison Russell up to play 2B. Twins and Royals expected to kickoff on time, as the forecast calls for a high of 71 with partly cloudy skies.
  23. Inb4 "Two hands!" Rex Hudler called this one right. http://m.mlb.com/video/v81918783/minkc-arcia-drops-moustakas-fly-ball-in-the-6th/?c_id=mlb
