  1. I can sympathize with a manager when everything goes to **** in the middle of an inning or when your best reliever has pitched on back to back days, etc. Yesterday was not that. It was pretty much a ready-made scenario to get your best reliever warm and get him in the game.
  2. With 9-1-2 due up in the 8th and Gibson done for the night I think he should have gotten loose then and been asked to go 2 IP. At the worst, you put him in after Boyer. You don't have your best reliever 3+ down the docket in a tie game. Nothing sucks more than losing a close game and your best reliever didn't even make an appearance.
  3. This is so lame. This thread is called "Molitor's decisions." We are debating Molitor's choices here, not the batter's performance with RISP.
  4. He made similar choices earlier in the season. I recall a game where he had Vargas, Arcia, and Escobar on the bench, and his late game PH choice was... Escobar. In the same game he sacrificed a baserunner to 2nd. The runner? Schafer. That's just sloppy managing IMO.
  5. Gotta love another extra inning (failed) sacrifice attempt too. With a speedster on base.
  6. I agree. Tie game, extra innings, how much more leverage do you need? Get your best guy out there. Esp. with the day off.
  7. The funny thing is Hunter leads all Twins batters in the triple crown categories. I think its safe to say that one way or another, Hunter is a big reason for the Twins win streak.
  8. The Twins have come in ~2.5% under budget the last couple drafts. If that trend holds for the other picks, then with a 7.388m pool the Twins could afford to go ~554,000.00 over slot on the first pick. The only penalty would be the 75% tax on going 0-5% over their pool.
  9. Agree but I hope the Twins wait until the replacements are banging down the door of AAA. None of Rosario, Sano, buxton, or ABW3 has done that. And besides, Vargas and Arcia are still kind of in no man's land where they could breakout and their value would explode. Right now I don't think either would be worth much. And besides that, Mauer is about on schedule to come up lame with a back / knee / concussion injury that will DL him for 8 weeks and make the whole thing moot for a while.
  10. Gotta love his focus. Can't wait to see him up.
  11. I'll join the "call him up camp." I don't really buy into the seasoning or mental delicacy arguments. I'm just sick of watching the current CF post a .257/.289/.284 line, worst position on the team. Even the old Hicks, with a .606 OPS, would be better.
  12. Interesting name. Looks a bit like Chris Sale doesn't he?
  13. Funkhouser, like Buehler, maybe not even the best pitcher on his team. Statistically. That probably would be freshman Brendan McKay.
  14. Was listening to LEN3 on Barreiro yesterday. He said after the Twins win, they select/demand a guy to do a dance off in the clubhouse, complete with lights and a smoke machine. Lavelle said there's often smoke still there when reporters get in. He said he talked to a player about it and his response was "yep, Torii's idea."
  15. In 2013 this team would get behind and they were done. They were hopeless. Last year they got behind a lot but we saw them show an ability to rebound. They had some bats. This year I think even more so. I think back to Hughes' last start, giving up a grand slam. I was listening on the radio and thought "well this is over quick," flipped the station. When I turned back, the Twins put up a 4-spot and got back in the game, and later won. That's pretty good for any team. This team is going to live and die by its bats, IMO. They have some firepower to overcome their weaknesses.
  16. They seem like very similar talents to me. If I had to put money on Gibson out performing his peripherals in the future, I would bet no. What is described as an "ability" to induce weak contact, over less than 300 IP, could just as easily be described as an "inability" to miss bats, IMO. I think the lack of stuff is going to catch up to him, eventually.
  17. Anyone who thinks BABIP regression is not going to hit Gibson - and hit him hard, probably, should take another look at Nick Blackburn's career pre- and post- 2009.
  18. I'm pretty amazed at how negative everyone is. The more I learn about guys not named Aiken or Matuella, the more intriguing the class looks. I think the Twins will have plenty of options at 6.
  19. Santana to CF. Esco to SS. Everybody bats, everyday. Problem solved.
  20. Looks like Gibson had another, more-walks-than-strikeouts outing. He has 15 walks to 11 strikesouts. How long can he keep this up?
  21. The first (or maybe last) A to homer in his first AB? Tommy Milone
  22. Molitor said before the game he didn't want to mess with what had been working during the win streak. Looks Rosario's in today at Vargas' expense.
  23. Andrew Albers struck him out in spring training. That alone is enough to make me think he should at least make a courtesy stop in AAA first.
