  1. There was a very bad way to take that comment in respose to eating cake.
  2. Some of the prime provocateurs of bitchin posts are silent. Some that add to the bad vibe and still posted on this thread must not realize they come off as mean and nasty and thus continue the bad vibe.
  3. I believe you were told top free agents wouldn't come to a last place team. That would be Sanchez and Greinke. Average like those mentioned will go for a paycheck when they run out of options.
  4. Myers well may be within their radar. Sometimes no news is still negotiations
  5. Pavan was a free agent after the 2010 season and resigned with the Twins. His 2010 season was very good. I believe various free agentt rankings had him as the 3 or 4 best pitcher available. His 2012 season made sure all is forgotten.
  6. Too bad there are no decent free agent middle infielders to spend the money on.
  7. Debating if a pitcher is a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 is completely meaningless and pointless debate. People want to quantify the starters. A 5 is replacement level. a 4 is a war under two, a three is under three, a two is under 4 and a nuber one is anything above. Everybody can now be happy with meaningless numbers,. Wether you use a 1-5 designation or a number based on a non predictive statistic, it doesn't change how good the pitcher is. It does not measure wear and tear or changing abilities due to learning how to pitch. At best you can say what was.
  8. You still need to build a team. What the team should be is a collection that is better than the sum of it's parts. The 2010 Twins did not have a lot of flash but they made their way to 94 wins despite any metric that said they should not have. WAR for pitchers is based on fip. The fangraphs site says that fip will not predict play so therefore WAR will not either. WAR will say that a player is good, but not always how bad they are. See Blackburn's -0.8 WAR
  9. But 2 out of 3 Benson, Hicks, Arcia >>>>>>>> Span +Revere
  10. It is just partway into the off season. Fooled again? Does there need to be a move everyday to satisy the people on this board? Sites have reported the Twins were in the running for Marcum. Has he signed somewhere else? Is there somewhere desirable courting him? None reported Half of you complain they didn't sign so and so, the other half complain that the same pitcher is a stiff not worth the money. If the knowing fans on this board can't come to an agreemeent, how must it be for a group of people with knowledge and scouting reports. No wonder they procede cautiously.
  11. But it is acceptable to post sarcasm directed at each other? Derision about other posts is allowed just allowed? A lot of nasty shots were taken at Thrylos and this did not reappear, so why now?
  12. They are two old guys who did a decent job filling their role on their ballclub. A decent trade might be send them Blackburn.
  13. Diplomacy is good. Clever sarcasm is great. Some of the namecalling by frequent contributors with websites is appalling.
  14. Not fleeced, but Pavano's 17-10 in 2010 is far better than anything Pino has done. Unfortunately another team did not overbid for his services for 2011. When the people on this board start saying that Liriano would be worth 12 million a year, then they can complain about the Liriano trade. If you were not going to sign him, you have to get what you can. Look at the other traded pitchers. Rodriguez, Maholm and Dempster reach eturned more for their teams than Liriano did. There is more of an upside to Liriano than those players. Is that upsiide going to show up for the playoffs? The other pitchers on as bad or worse teams were at least .500 or better pitchers. Liriano could not even do that. That is why there was little market for Liriano.
  15. Was this guy involved with your wife whe nyou were not looking or do you just have nothing better to do than complain about the 12-13 pitcher on the roster?
  16. Generally if the number 9 hitter on the Twins gets only three plate appearances the team did not do well that day. That is why you should be upset if the number9 hitter gets only three at bats. They have bigger problems than a part time number 9 hitter that can't hit the batboy's weight. If the pitchers on the team perform much better with Butera behind the plate, then play Butera. If Mauer is not as engaged as a catcher then perhaps it is time to move him.
  17. Other teams when I looked at them had a lot of their top prospects in the low minors also. Low minor players have potential upside. The higher they go, some lose the potential upside, replaced by a lower player's upside.
  18. Consider that this is Hicks first year in AA and he is hitting for neither power nor average. Benson had a horrible first half. Tosoni when up was a little beter than Clete. At AA ball, like Hicks is hitting for neither power nor average. Romero is not considered a very good third baseman. Properly Rochester would more likely be worse with your lineup. Is it the coaching or the players? Garret Jones who could not beat out Justin Morneau is doing fine. Other than that, I cannot recall any Twins minor leaugers who went elsewhere to stardom, or regular big leauge playing time. That leaves the source of the problem of the Twins minor leauges to the scouts or the person who makes decisions based on the scouting.
  19. If Butera at the bottom of the order is getting 5 at bats then the Twins would have to be winnng. It is when he only gets three at bats in a game you should be complaining.
  20. That is why managers are not GMs at the same time they manage. Poor outcomes follow.
  21. Perhaps it is worthwile for a high ceiling prospect to jump to the majors from AA. If they work out like Mauer, great. If it works like Mourneau, Cuddyer and Kubel, that is fine They also went AA, majors, back down to AAA. They would have a clearer pictue of whaat they need to work on to succede at the major league level. Appears to be working for Revere after a second trip.
  22. It may sound odd but potential does beat out proven mediocity. What is the ceiling for Vanencia? Maybe a sereviceable inf, Not a great bat after the scouting reports came in. Oliveros? he wasn't with the Twins at the time of the Bullock Diamond trade. Invalid comparison. Thought you followed this a little more closely than that.
  23. I do not recall them having much luck with Slama when he was up before. Walks galore. At the start of the season the pitchers at Rochester deserved to be there. On reason to have the retreads is that there are no others coming up. Martin and Solarte are really no loss. Yet the team has to have winning players to help develop the rising players. If you have a team half full of plaers incapable of playing at the AAA level, why would the other team pitch to the few who are. Now wins, no fans, no affiliate.
  24. Here is a Thank you to encourage you to continue your thread.
