  1. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Another one gets away. It's sad that the roster is built in such a way that one swing could tie or take the lead, but they have to roll with James Outman.
  2. For you people complaining about the lack of clutch hitting....where have you been the last two years? This is just any given Sunday in Twinsland. Their three-outcomes approach repeatedly bites them in the ass.
  3. Was catching way too much of the plate with two strikes.
  4. More poor execut To an extent you can forgive youth and inexperience, but what we have seen over the last couple years is poor execution and dumb mistakes across the board, including veterans.
  5. Challenges be damned, the ump missed that strike from Abel. It wasn't close.
  6. Shelton should forbid hitters from challenging . Leave it to the dugout.
  7. A pitchers pitch, but Wallner had to know it was a strike. The mistakes in this game keep piling up.
  8. They have lots of off days. I assume they are skipping Abel's start.
  9. That's three base running blunders today. Same crap as last year.
  10. Ober is starting to remind me of Mike Smithson. Big tall junkballer. At least Smithson got results.
  11. Apart from Funderburk, all those guys have low ceilings. A best case scenario is that the pen is "ok".
  12. Would there be enough money left over for another fringe utility infielder?
  13. I think rankings especially misfire when it comes to pitching. There are too many guys ranked solely on pitch speed and movement. They always come with a caveat that goes something like..."if he can refine his control the sky is the limit." Guess what, this almost never happens.
  14. Agreed. And it's usually only one or two people in the media that create the rankings. The rest just copy them to fill column space and to avoid looking stupid. Rankings are almost useless. Sure, you get someone like Joe Mauer who meets expectations, but then you get guys like Luis Arraez who was on no ones list.
  15. "But the 4-8 record as of Thursday morning is earned. It seems about right for what they're putting out there every afternoon. And it doesn't look a whole lot different from what they're going to put out there when the games start counting." Agreed. The early start of spring training is usually about getting a look at guys who might be depth pieces. Some will stay and some will be let go. However, the guys they've been running out there these first couple weeks will probably be expected to be regular contributors. Scary.
  16. If Altavilla is throwing better than Kent then I would have no problem putting Kent back on the waiver carousel.
  17. I gotta think if the Twins wanted to unload Larnach for some lotto tickets they would have done so already. I'm as mystified as anyone as to what their plan is for all of their left-handed outfielders. That said, someone in the front office must still think Larnach has a valuable roll to play with this club.
  18. My only quibbles are as follows: 1. I think Abel gets every chance to win a spot in the rotation. Matthews will have to battle with Bradley for the last spot. 2. In the bullpen I can see Altavilla getting that last spot over Kent. In any event, the bullpen situation is going to be very fluid in the coming weeks . 3. Gray over Kreidler. Outman's spot should go to someone else, but I suspect the Twins will give him every opportunity to succeed (or not succeed).
  19. I'm intrigued by the possibility of Festa in the late innings. Hendriks is cooked. He's had a really good career, but I would be shocked if he's still in the organization by the end of camp.
  20. I know the article reflects the opinion of a lot of fans, but I just don't get this line of thinking. By trading Ryan now they are telegraphing to everyone that they are not going to compete this year. Then why should I even bother watching the games? Fangraphs says they have a 27 percent chance of making the playoffs. By my Minnesota math that's greater than zero. At least let things roll for the first half of the season. Maybe they will catch lightning in a bottle. If they are ten games out at the trade deadline then reevaluate.
  21. I wish they would bring back the natural casing hot dogs you could buy from the vendors in the stands. I suppose those days are over.
  22. Thanks for the glass half full article. Of course, if a couple of the young starters step up then there's no need to even go through these scenarios. The Twins paid a high price at the deadline to bolster their young pitching. Maybe it will pay dividends. At some point while Pablo is deep into his rehab we should know one way or the other.
  23. Does anyone know if Chafin has an opt out if he isn't added to the roster by a certain date? If Funderburk looks to be in good form during spring training it would be criminal to send him to St. Paul.
