  1. OK, I missed Grossman's appearance because I watch the game in the background while I work. But your idea is better. Note to Molly, use LaMarre. If you don't he may cool off just sitting. Besides, I think the PR, bunt him over, then PH strategy works better than having a 300 pound lawn ornament (Sano) as the lead runner.
  2. I kinda thought Molly was going to run Adrianza for Sano and bunt him over to play a one run catch up strategy. Sano probably doesn't score from second (especially with his six foot lead) on a single. Then he used him to hit for the pitcher. But wasn't Grossman a better PH choice? Especially if Adrianza was on second? Oh well, no matter.
  3. Lynn was signed late and this is really akin to a 3rd ST outing. But did anyone else notice that he looked kind of pudgy? Like 10 lbs overweight? He couldn't find the strike zone and had little mound presence because of his struggles. The rookie hit a high and outside pitch that must have looked like a cantaloupe. Yet he pulled it, so it wasn't THAT outside. But I am with Molitor, it was nice to see the kids battle back. Lynn will get better.
  4. I nominate this for the most useful Twins article I've ever read.
  5. Remembering the not-too-distant past, I'm just glad he didn't give up 5 runs. Count your blessings. Maybe the kid has learned to pitch. But give a man his due. Because under the harsh proverbial rule that "You are only as good as your last outing," that last outing was pretty good. And, in all fairness, even his critics should say "So far, so good." Because, so far its been real good. Way to go kid.
  6. We had a brief discussion late last year about Dozier learning to hit the outside pitches for a single to right. This, as relating to his HR production as leadoff versus RBI spots in the order. So, since the coaches apparently believe in hitting the opposite way, why is Sano not getting the message? Is he just a stubborn kid? Am I going to have to send him a private message by Fed Ex?
  7. He goes with the pitch. Sano needs to learn that.
  8. He was just called out on a third strike all the way over the plate on the outside corner. I don't think he sees those pitches very well. He acts like he only sees every pitch that is middle in.
  9. This article jinxed Lance Lynn. Grand Slam in the bottom of the first and three walks Yikes.
  10. Sano is pulling his head and treating every pitch as if it needs to be hit ONLY to left field. That means he is pulling the head of the bat AWAY from middle out pitches. Someone needs to tell this guy how to hit those pitches to right field.
  11. Twins don't think so, or he'd be there. I think there will be less pressure on him in AA. Remember, he is still pretty young. Anyway, I can't get too excited about where Gordon plays. He is still a year away.
  12. https://search.aol.com/aol/video;_ylt=Awr9Ilk0XMJaLxkAinNpCWVH;_ylu=X3oDMTByZDNzZTI1BGNvbG8DZ3ExBHBvcwMyBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?q=jim+mora+rant+playoffs&v_t=comsearch-b-hyplogusaolc00000002#id=6&vid=2edad7dbfd8d63e239963fc0d80a8510&action=view For those already expecting or talking about playoffs (I'm one of them), here ya go.
  13. Just as easy to call him up from the Lookouts, if they need him. I think they want him to work on some things.
  14. When the Twins traded for Rearden, I told my brother they are going to win the series. Of course I was just forecasting, but when you have that Alpha guy, it shortens the game.
  15. I think all this means is Romero was lights out this spring.
  16. Sano is pulling his head and trying to pull everything. Someone slip him a memo in study hall
  17. Saves are a meaningless stat, until they aren't. Sometimes, playing a shorter game because of the closer is what makes a manager look like he employed a good strategy. Look at the Yankees with Rivera. They only had to defend 8 innings. It was over when he came in. So saves were not a meaningless stat in that case. Saves equaled wins and no late inning comebacks. I do like a reliever that can be a high leverage gunslinger. Having a bullpen arm that you can rely on to get one guy, maybe two, with the sacks packed (in whatever inning) is huge. Thing is, this is not difficult or complicated. Little League coaches have been doing this for years -- ever since the pitch count thing came in. Top of the order coming up, Jimmy pitches, weaker hitters (7-8-9) coming up, ok to try Tommy. Reminds me that it is still a kid's game.
  18. I won't argue, but I think it is a fair comment that catchers known for framing often revert to glove versus shifting the body to block. Remember, they have like a split second to react anyway. I'd rather look at it this way, Rosario's long fly carries three more feet, we win in 9. Makes me feel better anyway
  19. Look, folks, that's baseball. My takeaway is the Twins almost won in a close extra inning game when they didn't hit. I think the wiser view is this is just one of those games. It wasn't a mistake to let Duke pitch when he had it going on except for one pitch. The big O was great. Reed looked mostly good too. And Molly got all three FA RPs in the first game. As for Rodney, he is a pro's pro. Perk got lit up now and then too. It happens. Jones hit a good pitch, maybe too good. Like I said, it happens, and Jones can do that to anybody.
  20. If you want an example of dumb managing, try overusing a pitcher in April. You want to see him on IR? That's the way to do it. No need to bring him out for the 7th when there are 7 other relief pitchers on the staff that were fresh. The big O had thrown 93 pitches. That is plenty for opening day. And smart managers don't risk injury to a starter for the sake of one game.
  21. Memo to Sano: Learn from it kid. Never give them a chance to put the arm on you. That means behave yourself, especially with ladies. And, remember, your actions impact others, not the least of which being millions of fans and your organization (the one that made you rich) and team mates.
  22. when you have a guy with Kinley's stuff, you are patient. Remember Jesse Crain? When he found out how to throw a slider and not just a straight fastball, he got better. I think they view Kinley as a potential closer, long term
  23. Excuse me, is it required now to have a reliever capable of giving up a 3 run homer in the 8th inning?
  24. Its a little used part of baseball. I always coached my first baseman to get the runners talking. Easier to pick em off that way.
  25. we put two of those guys on the wire, JT and Burdi, and they were both claimed.
