  1. But you are putting yourself into the position that he may like the team that you send him to, and you open it up to any team courting him in free agency. That is a lot of variables to introduce into the equation. I'd tell him we want to thank you and reward your contribution and keep you a Twin. Never mind those slinky girls waiting to dance with you.
  2. That makes far more sense than spinning the cylinder and pointing at your temple.
  3. But that assumes that he won't prefer playing in a different city. It assumes he would want to come back over staying in LA or some other place that might be a better place to play. You cannot assume he wants to come back T.
  4. Disagree completely. Not identifying difference makers has hurt this team. And I think we moved Nunez because we already had Eduardo. Guys like Eduardo are found on practically every championship team. They make things happen. So many look at players as pawns to be moved around on a chessboard. But you don't play baseball on a chessboard. I look at guys like Eduardo as where to hit him in the order from 1-5. He is definitely playing somewhere if I am manager. And THAT is why you keep him.
  5. Yeah, that will make free agents wanna play here.
  6. Well, I tend to believe that, although we got him for Frankie, so he was not that much in demand back then, he has improved every year since. Given the opportunity to play regularly, he has bloomed. I don't think anyone who makes good once he got the shot should be talked about as "well, he will decline". In my opinion, guys like Eduardo get better with the opportunity. Offer him 3/39. Stop talking about him like he is still a utility guy. He would start on many teams in MLB. Plus, he is a spark plug. We need those.
  7. You gotta root for us geezers. I have a shirt that says, "The older I get the better I was." Ah nostalgia. Fernando can still bring it. Glad he is a Twin.
  8. You ain't wrong I think it was a "problem solved" valuation. I am ok with it. Many draft picks fail to pan out...although second round is a swallow hard thing. Still, I am happy for Phil, (I was a Camp Pendleton Marine and San Diego is muy cool) and we move on.
  9. Nah, Chief don't take it that way. Its not about you. They are annoying lots of us, believe me. Or as the Prez would say, "That I can tell you." Romero was looking at some kind of innings limit. He is still a callow youth, after all. Maybe they see this as a good idea to give him more time between starts, or move him to the BP after some corrections. Whatever the reason is, I'm cool with it. I wish Romero had a four year veteran's arm strength, but this is better than Tommy John surgery. The days of Earl Weaver and four 20 game winners are long gone.
  10. I was just speculating...maybe I should shut up
  11. Profar was hustling and doing his job. If I am the umpire, Molitor gets tossed and warned the following day. You don't have a right to hit a batter, just because he is doing his job. That's bush league and went out of style years ago
  12. Romero may have been sent down to work on something, and for a reason or reasons that aren't even mentioned in this thread. We don't know. None of us is a fly on the wall in the FO. That said, I don't get the hate for Belisle. Maybe you'd prefer a different arm, but if Molly wants the guy and he came very cheap, then maybe Molly won't keep using Pressley, Reed and Hildy until they develop sore arms. I see it as a minor tweak, not the end of the world. I also don't concede 2018. And I don't blame Molly or Sano or Buck. We had a bucket full of injuries. What team would still be in contention with all of those injuries? I think these guys are struggling for a variety of reasons, but a bounce back is still possible. Stay positive.
  13. I remember we talked about how they would stop his innings at some point. Some of us agreed putting him in the BP was a way to do that, but he may have developed some trend that is tipping his pitches or something. Anyway, he will be back.
  14. Unfortunate title selection. Nobody circles the drain in June. Haven't I taught you TD guys anything?
  15. Molly apparently can't see a gift when it is dropped in his lap.
  16. sorry pal, you cannot prove the exception from the rule. All of those guys hit it where it was pitched because they knew the strike zone.
  17. Carew and Boggs used the whole field. They hit it where it is pitched. And they are HOFers.
  18. If he did what I suggested, he would set a new record for triples, even if he hit only 275.
  19. The Twins hitters , except for Joe, and the Eddies, all suffer from Big Dawg envy. Sano and Dozier seem to only look for a pitch up and in that they can hit out. That means they are conceding 3/4 of the strike zone to major league pitchers. Dumb, that. Buck was doing the same thing. Wanting to pull everything. Buck, more than anyone should be an opposite field hitter. Hey Buck, do you have any idea how many triples you can hit if you looked for outside pitches you can hit the other way? These guys want to pull everything. Sheesh, didn't their little league coaches teach them ANYTHING? Which brings me to the point.... what is the hitting coach teaching them about situational hitting? Looks like NADA. The Eddies and Joe look for a pitch to hit. And they go with the pitch to make good contact on the sweet spot. Buck, Doze and Sano, and to a lesser extent Keps, all look to pull the ball. They wanna hit homers like the big kids. But it is extremely rare that you can pull an outside pitch and pitchers know that. You don't think major league pitcher see film? The Twins are in a collective slump because their hitting coach is focused on mechanics instead of hitting strategy and logic. These guys go up to the plate trying to put a square peg in a round hole, because they wanna be big dawgs. If they looked for a fat outside pitch --- which they will see every time up -- they could get good contact. But they wanna hit homers like the big dawgs, so they end up down in the count and waving at strike 3. As for LoMo. Methinks he needs glasses.
  20. Surely, you are joking. I'm not joking, and don't call me Shirley.
  21. There are different messages sent by different management actions. The message that we believe in you is not exactly sent by a demotion. In some cases, a demotion takes pressure off and lets them have ABs where they are working on things more than what might be indicated in a major league game. In some cases, a demotion is a positive developmental move. In others, it can hurt a player's confidence. But in ALL cases, time will tell. I believe that yo need to be extra patient with young players. Too many fans rush to judgment.
  22. No it doesn't. It means that you are more patient with those who have truly special talent. They are accountable, same as everyone else. But some players develop later than others.
  23. Right now the offense is built around Eddie and Eddie.
  24. It is different for different athletes, depending on conditioning, diet and injury avoidance. Darrell Green, Washington Redskin cornerback played 20 years in the NFL without losing a step. But for most of us, speed starts leaving after our 34th birthday, give or take.
