  1. I don't see it that way at all. They were desperate to get any arm that cover some innings and he was the best option at Rochester. I don't think the front office thinks all that highly of Rucinski, just a guy they can shuttle back and forth to cover some innings. I don't think this type of bullpen management is all that unique around baseball, you just hope that you are shuffling better relievers.
  2. Fair enough, I used rift as a short hand, means the same thing to me. I just haven't seen any evidence that Molitor and the front office aren't on the same page (as multiple people have suggested, going so far as to say it is enough for Molitor to get fired). Again, that would be a pretty big deal and at least a whisper would have leaked out if that was even close to the case. I don't disagree with the high price of calling up Rucinski, and they obviously wouldn't have done it if they knew Santana would go 7. But they couldn't risk that going in.
  3. It would be lower than Rosario, but pretty much nothing for either of them.
  4. I would be surprised if it did last that long. Bullpen is already back to rested. Wouldn't anticipate a series with the Angels to crush it that bad, barring another 15 inning game.
  5. I asked a question, but it was more a general question to the board. I can't argue with the position that the two guys wouldn't have been successful in that situation, they likely would have closed it out, because giving up 6 runs in two innings is hard. I just don't think that is the role the FO envisioned for either of those pitchers, they were there to eat innings. This is further proven by the fact they sent Rucinski back to AAA right after the game. But why does this mean there is some rift between Molitor and FO? That seems like it would be a pretty big deal, and this is very scant evidence.
  6. What do you base this on? I doubt the FO had any notion those relievers would be used in late innings with the Twins ahead.
  7. Rucinski or Wheeler perhpas would have gotten out of Monday's game without giving up 6 runs in two innings, but that doesn't mean we should turn them into something they aren't. Rucinski is a marginal big leaguer and Wheeler is org depth.
  8. I think the reason the front office hasn't brought up any relievers is there really aren't any worthwhile to bring up. If Molitor had better talent I assure you he would use it. He does want to win games. I don't understand the need to explain things with a larger dramatic conspiracy.
  9. I fear that Monday, 8th inning might be the high water mark, but it does help to play the Angels without Trout. Can make any team healthy.
  10. That's a nice theory, but not sure it's true. About half of the pitchers in baseball end up on the dl at some point. Not sure it varies by the quality of manager. There were about 570 total dl trips last year (pitcher and position player). http://www.baseballheatmaps.com/disabled-list-data/
  11. I'm worried the 8th inning on Monday might end up being the high water mark of this season. Back to back gut punches take a little bit out of a team.
  12. Pressly last year is somewhat fair, but I still don't see it as that excessive. Fair point on rainouts, extrapolation would put a couple guys on the back end of top 50.
  13. I don't think his track record is much different than anyone else. This is how managers use relievers. Do you have any comparison? The Twins have one pitcher in the top 50 in games pitched, and that's Rogers, who often goes less than an inning.
  14. The difference to me is that the draft after Stewart really hasn't been that good. It was a worthwhile risk. I think with Greene there is a great option in Wright that they would pass on.
  15. It's like making a trade.
  16. They don't have that practice and that's not why Wheeler didn't pitch.
  17. Winning is not a secondary goal. The relivers used were deemed ready, that weren't bring overused. It really shouldn't matter if 5 or 6/7 relievers are available the next day. Win the game in front of you.
  18. If Perkins was overused, it is basically impossible not to overuse a reliever in modern baseball. His usage was very normal. I'll maybe grant Pressly, but everyone else there is a stretch.
  19. Hey, Rucinski added plenty to this! Molitor went with the right guys. Didn't work. If Wheeler got lit up we would have complained that we got beat pitching a marginal guy making his debut.

    De Leon

A few years from now we'll all be wondering how we passed on a Dozier for Bellinger package, just like all the Johan Santana packages we passed on from the Red Sox.
  21. I wonder if Falvey/Levine just don't think much of Melotakis. Kind of surprised they haven't at least bumped him to AAA.
  22. I'm certainly not opposed to giving him a try considering the current dumpster fire residing out there. I also agree with you, it would be a great thing if he had a career like Bradford or Neshek.
  23. Melotakis was working back from TJ last year.
  24. I would say the guys that deserved it got a call up last year. I would also say the new front office failed to bring in much talent this offseason. I don't think failing to give a look to guys who were hurt or not ready or frankly, not all that much of a prospect, was a mistake. Every player you referenced falls into one of these three categories. And Wimmers did get a 16 game look last year. There's a reason he wasn't claimed when DFAed in the offseason.
  25. One reason a guy like him gets "slowtracked" is the org usually wants him to go through the league a couple times and have multiple cracks at him to make sure the production is legit and not just a product of deception. He was also hurt late last year, might have slowed his schedule a little.
