  1. I thought it was the right move at the time. Obviously didn't expect an epic collapse by the entire team to follow.
  2. True, but there is no guarantee that trading Willingham will increase wins down the line. It does depend (obviously) on what the package is in return. He is signed to a good contract, isn't blocking anyone right now, and doesn't have an obvious replacement in the immediate future. I think there is value in keeping a certain level of play (that is, don't let it completely collapse) that could outweigh an uncertain benefit down the line.
  3. This is a good question. I would still say too early on Berrios. Maybe Kepler. I'm big into Goodrum right now, but 6 is probably too high. His average is low, but is K/BB ratio is good, he's hitting for some pop and it looks like he might stick at SS. There are some good second tier hitters as well - Michaels, Herrmann, maybe Santana. Those guys can all be big leaguers of some sort.
  4. Span is worth more than just Cingrani. One other option I was actually thinking was Mesoraco. I wonder if the Reds would include him in a trade if the Twins flipped back a certain beloved backup catcher.
  5. Anyone think a similar backlash is what might be preventing the Twins from really cleaning house this deadline? It probably makes sense to trade Morneau, Willingham, and Span in addition to Liriano (and Capps and Pavano if they come back by the end of August), but the big talker will be dropping all that salary only three years after moving into a new stadium and the Pohlads lining their pockets. Even if it is the right baseball moves, there is a huge PR consideration.
  6. It's fair, but I would definitely have Rosario over Gibson.
  7. He could be the best prospect, but I still have him at #5. Sano has the best power in the minors Buxton is a tool shed with huge upside Hicks will be an elite defensive CF in range and arm, draws walks, speed Rosario seems like he can stay at 2B, great hitter and will get some bags as well I'll take these four over a solid defensive corner OF with questions on if he can hit lefties. That said, a 21 year old lighting up AA is damn good.
  8. While the Orioles shouldn't be buying, this is the type of low risk/high reward move that might make some sense.
  9. I like to think I follow the Twins and the minor leagues pretty closely and my first reaction to Perdomo was who? That can't be good. At this point shouldn't they call up a Oliveros or Waldrop and see what they have.
  10. Injuries are a bummer. Surgery two months ago wouldn't have made much of a difference, makes sense to do everything possible to avoid surgery.
  11. Breaking balls have a better habit and more success in weeding out big swing/low contact guys.
  12. I have a hunch it will ultimately be the Braves. Don't think they'll get Delgado though.
  13. Good point, but hard to envision who could be brought in from the outside at this point for the rest of the season. Firing Gardy and having Ulger as the interim for the rest of the year strikes me as a recipe for even more disaster than the season will be.
  14. Anyone else find it hilarious how white the Wolves are now? Barea, Rubio, Ridnour, Kirilenko, Budinger, Love, Pekovic, Stiemsma all in the rotation and Hummel should make the squad. Impressive.
  15. Considering the Twins were in second place in August in 2010 and ended up winning handily, a little unfair to suggest they gave up the second half of that year. But that's picking nits. Chief, I am coming around as well. I have gone back and forth but I think I have reached the point were it is time for some new leadership on the field staff. It is not Gardy's fault that the pitching staff is atrocious this year, but I agree that the culture needs a change. I also find it impossible to believe that the Twins can have another debacle, come back with the same coaching staff, and be able to sell that to season ticket holders. There will be significant losses to tickets sold no matter what, but might be able to save a few.
  16. That's awesome.
  17. I don't see it. Hamels should age as well as any pitcher can.
  18. Exactly. A run of good starts does not erase years of history.
  19. Twins have brought guys up for a couple of days at the end of the season before. Depends on roster situation but it could make sense. Beloit will be in the playoffs as well, so extra games on the back end.
  20. And legitimate pitchers as well. Zack Wheeler was the starter and he also faced a big league reliever down on a rehab assignment.
  21. That would fit with what the Twins have done in the past. Let him finish the Appy League season and then push him up for the last couple of games and playoffs.
  22. I also read the Marlins were trading either Sanchez or Johnson but not both. Take that for what it is worth.
  23. Maybe they should DL him. At this point of the season might as well give him as much time as he needs.
  24. Twins should get something back in addition to salary relief. Similar to when they traded Juan Castro a couple of years back, they got a C level arm (Zach Ward I think), probably even get a slightly better prospect for Carroll.
  25. Aren't bloggers generally the same people who rip mainstream media for being too cushy with the athletes they cover and that it impacts their ability to be impartial in their coverage? For the record I don't have a problem with any of it and think its great that someone like Perkins interacts with fans in various ways, I just find it a little funny. I think Perkins is great as well when he is on Reusse and Mackey each week.
