  1. How does Goodrum rank? Has anyone on this board come close to seeing enough guys in the system enough times (and this year) to have any idea on this question?
  2. Or maybe have an extra bat so Florimon doesn't have to hit in the 9th with the tying run on second. Unless they are facing a really tough lefty I'm pretty sure Parmelee will be in the lineup every day the rest of the year.
  3. I also wonder if this might open a chance for Hicks to be brought up. I still think it is a long shot, but with Span out for at least another 10 days that would open up some playing time. Still probably more likely they give Parmelee the majority of at bats in RF.
  4. The timing on this is the interesting part. If the goal was to add Parmelee, one would think they could wait three more days.It seems like the goal was to outright Gray, meaning it was to open up a spot on the 40 man.... So who are the three Sept callups not on the 40 man? Timing actually makes a lot of sense. Rochester was just eliminated from the playoffs so it doesn't matter that they lose Parmelee, and they are 2 days from September 1 so they won't be able to blow out the bullpen, so no need for Gray to eat any innings between now and then. 3 callups: I would think Slama for sure, probably Vasquez to make Diamond's start, and a sleeper in Hicks now that Span is on the DL.
  5. For a little perspective, here is a Tommy John tracker: http://www.mlbdepthcharts.com/2010/08/tommy-john-tracker.html Apparently pitchers outside the Twins organization undergo the procedure from time to time as well.
  6. This is very low on the list of things that bother me. They seem to be caught between trying to get a guy to play and not upsetting Rochester too much as their season was winding down and they were fighting for a playoff spot. When they are 20 games under .500 in late August don't think it is a huge deal if they miscalculate by a week or so. They still have Butera on the roster, obviously they aren't super concerned about all 25 roster spot.
  7. Burton for 2 years and an option, otherwise no thanks on the others. No reason to rush any of them. Another year like this from Revere and I would think about him for next offseason, but Plouffe, Diamond and Duensing can all wait at least two more years.
  8. Yes. And he's back up and in the lineup, shouldn't that be a good thing? It's pretty much him or Doumit out there.
  9. I commend your ability to read numbers from a boxscore. I also find it a little ironic that you consider the evaluation of those that watch Slama every day as "blind faith" but your ability to read a boxscore as "evidence and reason". Seems a little backwards. I think the reason the Twins have Gray up right now instead of Slama is not all that complicated. As has been mentioned, Slama has missed about two months this season with injury and he pretty much is a one inning max guy (and probably also dicey against LH hitters in general). With the Twins rotation as shaky as it is, it makes sense to have a guy like Gray who can go multiple innings and also have the ability to blow through him with minimal regard for his future. Gray is basically there to soak up innings so the younger and/or more valuable arms don't have to. If Slama had been on the roster instead of Gray many of those extra innings would had to have been pitched by someone else other than Slama, if he was only more or less able to pitch one inning. I am thinking that once September 1 rolls around we will see Slama and perhaps another arm or two get called up and the amount of appearances by Gray will decrease significantly, though he will still be around to mop up a few extraneous innings if a starter gets shelled. I'm no big fan of Gray, but he did his job fine this year, eating innings and protecting other arms.
  10. I doubt Terry Ryan is convinced Plouffe is the 3B of the future.
  11. Obviously they would have traded him at the deadline in 2010 for an overpaid relief pitcher.
  12. Boondoggle Stadium
  13. It has been said but out of the supplemental and 2nd rounds I would have liked to have seen 1-2 of those college arms replaced with a higher upside or starting prospect. My other big disappointment with the draft was that the Twins left pool money on the table. They had a unique chance to add a few extra tough signs/above slot guys and they punted. With the current state of the franchise that shouldn't happen.
  14. DR is a great place for missions, my church has gone down there for over a decade now. Good for Gibson and his wife to donate time/money to such a worthy endeavor.
  15. The other team that is often thought of as being slow to promote is the Rays. And they actually have stud prospects worthy of quicker promotions. I think overall that is pretty good company for the Twins to keep. Overall I think the conservative approach is generally smarter for development, allows for steady progress and the ability to have sustained success at every level. This is especially true the last couple of years when the Twins have been terrible. There is little gained from a player being overmatched in the bigs.
  16. It would be a mistake to come back with the same coaching staff next year, hard to justify that after two seasons of more than 90 losses. I thought Gardy might be toast but I do think he stays. He'll want to keep the same coaching staff, I wonder if Ryan has him make some changes, with Bruno and maybe even Molitor (if not someone else).
  17. Same joke in two straight posts. Impressive.
  18. And now Romney has moved the discussion from the economy to huge fiscal cuts. The Democrats won't even have to exaggerate with Ryan just make sure voters know exactly what is in his budget.
  19. I generally agree with this. Ryan has talent but I can't shake the thought that he really speaks to a minority of the electorate. The other downside is that it changes the main focus of the campaign from the poor economy to fundamental change in the social safety net. I think people like the idea of reform in the abstract but balk when it is presented in real terms of cuts to medicare and whatnot. I also doubt massive tax cuts for the wealthy is a winner right now.
  20. I don't think Diamond and De Vries can be mentioned on the same level. Diamond is part of the solution going forward, De Vries might not pitch in the majors again after this season.
  21. Beating up AAA pitching is all good, but I see little reason to rate him as anything more than a platoon bat with a questionable glove at this point. That is not being traded for young pitching or a middle infielder. Might be able to move him for a veteran pitcher with a contract that the trading team might want to clear. I do think he should get into the lineup to see what he has, but I don't see him as a first division regular at a corner.
  22. Parmelee has minimal trade value.
  23. Only 6 threads devoted to Nishioka? We can do better.
  24. Troll?
