He'll almost certainly be fine. Just a little later to the show than it might have seemed a couple of months ago. Also means Dozier isn't going anywhere.

Certainly has enough bat to be a catcher, if.... But that was never really the question.

Basically anyone on the 40 man or 60 day dl can be on the postseason roster. Someone in the org but not on the 40 man on September 1 can replace a guy on the 60 day dl.

The May start was an abomination by the front office. Say what you will about them, but I am quite confident the current front office won't make a mistake that egregious in season.- 47 replies

I thought they should have called up Berrios too, perhaps in a more limited role. Not sure how the poster doesn't remember any angst that year. It was a massive topic! (But the Strasburg comparison from that Fangraphs writer was still one of the most ridiculous Twins related things I've seen from a national writer)- 47 replies

Not calling up Berrios in 2015 was compared by a national writer to the Nats shutting down Strasburg, and people here agreed. So there was some angst.- 47 replies

Article: MIN 6, CHW 4: Polanco Does it All
drjim replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We'll see. I wouldn't put either of them ahead of the current top 4. And if one comes up to start that is good, but I'd not call the other up to sit until the Rochester season is over (most especially Gonsalves). Good for the playoffs, but also good to keep them on their turn as long as possible in case they need to get called on in a couple of weeks. Plus Mejia and Santiago are close to returning. SO MUCH PITCHING DEPTH!- 47 replies

Pay attention to the Rochester starters this week, good chance either Gonsalves or possibly Slegers gets the start on Friday.- 47 replies

Hildenberger has been much better than I anticipated. Really nice revelation down the stretch (but maybe not 5 out of 6 games). They could really use one more RH reliever, but don't think they are getting through waivers at this point.- 47 replies

Article: Miguel Sano And Negativity Bias
drjim replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This may be true, but I have also heard some pushback on the narrative that the Twins FO, or at least anyone high up, was responsible for pushing that information to Souhan. It may be more of Souhan just exaggerating or making stuff up than we think. The example cited was Garza, so might not apply to Slowey or Neshek. -

Another signing: Here is the updated BA Top 50: http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/2017-top-50-international-prospects-signing/#KsL7rgqTS5vzkKP5.97 Twins will also get #34 on that list in a couple of days, will end up with #13, #30, #34. Don't think any of the other unsigned are linked to the Twins, but I am curious what the payoff of the money acquired from the Nats will be. -

drjim replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I always had the suspicion that Souhan made it up. Or, at best, took an offhand comment from a lower level official (or got just enough of an answer that he was fishing for) and greatly exaggerated it. I assume the front office would like to see him cut a little weight, but I can't imagine they are at the point they are going to leak it to someone like Souhan and pretend that will motivate him. -
Article: Miguel Sano And Negativity Bias
drjim replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That's fair. I find it hard to believe that losing a little weight would hamper him in a meaningful way, and would have benefits. The k rate is interesting to consider. If hr cuts it 5-10% he is an absolute monster. If it rises 5-10% more he will struggle to stay in the league. He is living a little dangerously. I personally think he will make the adjustments and bump it down a little. Remains to be seen if that costs him power. -

Sano is a very good player. But all that said, it would be nice if he struck out less and lost 15ish pounds. It's a fair observation. -
I always thought the question would be if he has enough arm to stick. I figured he is athletic enough that he could smooth out the rough edges otherwise. If he flashes the talent to stay there is certainly reason to be hopeful.

Extremely unlikely he would do that. Even Judge didn't do that his first month. Major league pitchers are really, really good. A big part of the minors is for reps and progression and learning how to make adjustments, but a not insignificant part is learning the grind of playing every day, long road trips and using wood bats. Someone like Rooker might have brief initial success, but he would likely wear down and get exploited when pitchers adjust.

Article: Should the Twins Shut Down Fernando Romero?
drjim replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Does seem about time to shut him down. He's pitched enough to get to 160 next year, which can be a full season with some creativity throughout the year. I still think it's basically moot, he'll be too tantalizing not to put in the pen in the second half next year. -
Best case scenario strikes me as about August 1 next year. Would have to start at Chattanooga and really rake and have an opening. I would assume the front office enters the season with no plan to use him, but that can change with performance.
