  1. I agree. Looking back at Ryan 2.0, I think we'll see 2012 as a great draft, 2013 as very solid (even with the Stewart miss), 14 and 15 as pretty weak, and 16 as a nice final effort, with 17 looking solid too. The fruits of these will really start to show in depth, if not exactly impact.
  2. Good interview with Royce on the latest mlb.com pipeline podcast. Callis and Mayo talked about him a little bit afterward, gave some context to his performance so far this year. The big takeaway was their discussion of him at SS. They agree with the general position to keep a prospect at the toughest position until they can't do it anymore, and they seemed somewhat optimistic that he can ultimately be serviceable at SS. They even hinted that some of the conversation about Lewis moving to CF was driven as much by the thought he would be really good out there rather than he has no chance to stick at SS. If he could become an average SS, but possibly elite CF, that is an interesting conversation of where to develop him.
  3. You forget Big Sexy's 7 shutout innings so easily? But your point is right, the starters have strained the bullpen this week. It's not nearly good enough to hold on for an extended time.
  4. Could be my fault. I always took AA and AAA as high minors. Who can arbitrate this divisive issue?
  5. Even at top, top performance/health he won't get out of Ft. Myers next year.
  6. This move got me thinking there is a small (but far from impossible) chance he could make the bigs by late 2019. Needs to avoid injury.
  7. Barring injury, 100% he starts at Cedar Rapids next year.
  8. Strikeouts are not the only thing, but they really do correlate with success in higher levels. There are exceptions, but they are rare and more exceptions that prove the rule. I don't think there is any shame in being a really good minor league pitcher.
  9. I don't think this is an uncommon trajectory for a batted ball. Buxton didn't get turned around as much as he followed the path of the ball.
  10. Then he might be in business too. I'm actually surprised Enns hasn't been sent down, would be a good time to bring up another bat. There are options, all better than Enns in my mind, for the next start in 8 days.
  11. Calling up Romero or Garver right now would have no impact on options. It is only a problem for Gonsalves if he is sent back down.
  12. They played poorly against the As after the decision to sell was made. I don't think that was a coincidence. After an inevitable mini slump the Twins have actually rebounded much stronger than I thought they would, so credit to them. I also think it is a mistake to overvalue performance against specific teams you may face in the playoffs as a driver for decisions. Lots can change between now and then, such as, for example, making your own team better.
  13. This schedule situation was the same at the deadline. Perhaps it should have been considered when decisions were being made. Overreacting to a sweep by the Dodgers was not a good process.
  14. Molitor probably realized quickly Enns isn't any good.
  15. Imagine how good would be if they trade Rogers and Belisle too.
  16. But Garver would ideally catch against lefties, making him a poor platoon partner for Mauer. I would hope for a RH hitter. But this all leads to why Granite is not the ideal bench OF, despite his profile, they would be better off with a RH hitter.
  17. If Grossman is the DH, they would want someone on the bench who can play 1b, preferably with a better bat than Garver.
  18. Fair enough. I was thinking a tight definition of "relevant". But I suspect the feelings of most are now well known.
  19. This is correct. And they aren't going to break in a minor league catcher when there really is no need. There is a little too much optimism regarding Garver both offensively, but especially defensively.
  20. They don't especially need a body that can stand in lf, they have that with Grossman. They need a bat and very occasional 1b. I guess I don't really have a problem with Garver getting catching reps at AAA rather than playing on occasion in the bigs, and likely not catching.
