  1. I generally agree. Seems pretty similar to the previous model, and the majority of success stories were already in the organization. I am hoping for positive change and progress in the years ahead, but don't really see this season as an example.
  2. I think we should assume the plan was communicated. I would have preferred they stayed promoted.
  3. I don't even think it would have much, if anything, about service time. He's rightly not going to be plan a entering spring training, but should be positioned to be one for the first couple of pitchers available for a call up.
  4. I won't speak for the previous poster, but I don't think 3 vs. 10 AAA starts is much of a difference. I also personally thought an argument could be made that he had more things to work on at AA and he might not have been quite ready for AAA at the point people were calling for it. Remains to be seen. As a counter, I have heard chatter from some of the executives that they are looking hard at Gonsalves, so maybe they aren't especially worried about limited AAA starts. I thought it was a virtual lock he would be starting in Chicago today instead of AAA yesterday, but maybe they didn't want to give up the 40 man spot yet and risk an option (if it wasn't worth it to bring him up again in September).
  5. I don't think 10 starts instead of 3 really changes the equation that much. Either way he was going to potentially be able to be effective for a couple of starts but likely not in a position to be put permanently in the rotation. They weren't keeping him in AA for giggles.
  6. Definitely a RH hitter. And could be an OF too. Garver might be the backup catcher, wouldn't be opposed, but they have no depth behind him. I would probably opt for an established backup and Garver start in AAA rather than sign one of the AAAA catchers floating around. But could go either way.
  7. 2 starters, 2 relievers (including a closer) and perhaps a veteran 1b/dh bat and a backup catcher. That would set them up and give them some actual depth.
  8. I assume he pulled Busenitz to keep him available for the next day. He's managing the whole season, he had something like 9 games in 8 days staring him in the face. I understand the scenarios you are pointing out, I just see a manager trying to steal some outs when trailing late in a game. I don't especially agree with the calculations and tradeoffs you have suggested on usage. I do agree he didn't use the most optimal pitching matchup, but I would still argue it was a calculated risk to preserve usage.
  9. My response is that it is defensible to try and steal a couple more outs in that situation. Molitor is playing with such a short deck of good relievers that he has try whatever he can to get through situations like that where he (wisely) won't use his handful of actual mlb quality relievers. He also knows he has Gibson the next day who often gives short starts and thus might have to burn more relievers the next day. Molitor is very aggressive when he has leads trying to get wins, takes a few more risks when trailing, which is very defensible in the grand scheme of the bullpen structure he has and upcoming starters he had lined up.
  10. I think the total hit rate on major leaguers is relatively typical, but the Twins haven't hit on elite guys in that stretch, which is such a squandered opportunity to supplement this emerging core.
  11. Your last sentence refers to no actual manager. Shadow any other fan forum for a couple weeks.
  12. I won't defend the words of the other poster, I'm not especially interested in that type of parsing or trying to control specific debate. I quite enjoy bullpen usage debate. It is a fair criticism, but probably does need to be balanced with the fact that the move that was criticized was remedied today yet had the same result. I personally don't think it's a terrible use of a loogy.
  13. He had to use someone after Boshers didn't get enough outs. I do think if he knew the result he would have pulled Boshers earlier.
  14. What are you talking about? We had basically the same sequence play out twice, he tried both ways of navigating it, and they both blew up. Doesn't that tell us something?
  15. And to build on that, while he did have an off day, I don't think he would manage for an off day the next day, thinking he has two more games against this team, which are also important games. He can't blow his arms in the first game. Trying to steal an out or two when trailing is defensible.
  16. Sure, and he did the exact sequence you called for and had the same result. I think he is kind of no win with the talent he has.
  17. Molitor followed your advice today, didn't exactly work out either.
  18. It's fine criticism, but trying to steal an extra out or two with a lefty when behind is really not a bad move either. This is especially true considering the talent of the options, he wasn't exactly leaving shutdown guys on the bench.
  19. The Giants in 2014 were a second wild card team that won the Series (they did win 88 regular season games). The second wild card team has won 7 of 10 games, with 3 of 7 winning next series, 1 of 3 winning LCS, 1 of 1 winning World Series. Almost exactly what you'd expect from random chance.
  20. Can we compromise and say neither had really flashed much and should not be penciled in for anything at this point. But I would bet more on Rooker than Diaz at this point. Diaz brings little but a low k rate. At least Rooker shows some pop and will take a walk.
