  1. I'm just going by media reports. I didn't mind giving Santana another shot as the 4th bench guy, but keeping him on this roster seems ill advised.
  2. I'll take Option A. Wouldn't be stunned with a waiver claim tho.
  3. Sure, sometimes situations out of their control prevent players from making a roster. Contracts, service time, roster spots, roster makeup play a factor. I never suggested otherwise. But that wasn't the case with Chargois. Not even a little bit. It was his spot.
  4. No chance it's just him. The front office knows the pitching staff they gave him.
  5. Looks like Gimenez at 1b. I think 13 pitches represents the question marks in the rotation. 3 guys they are very uncertain of out of the chute.
  6. I thought Park would make it, but I'm not all that high on Park of Vargas, so I can live with Grossman as the primary DH out of the gate. I bet we see a decent chunk of Sano at DH too. Kepler is probably the backup 1b right?
  7. I agree Duffey would do well in the pen, but I suspect he is there as a ready replacement for Hughes. As bad as the bullpen is, rotation is still the main problem, right? Santana and Gibson should be able to get some innings, but Santiago is not exactly stretched out, Hughes is a big question mark and Mejia is a complete wildcard. It could come around, but could be very dicey out of the gate.
  8. I think you undersell Santana a little relative to Tonkin here (but who cares really), but otherwise I'm with you on this. Shouldn't have been too hard to add players in the offseason that would have been an upgrade. I don't have much good to say about the offseason with this as the end result. The Twins could unexpectedly over perform in the lineup and rotation and still have the bullpen sink any chance.
  9. Sounds about right. Guys with no options left given another chance because they might have some upside and there isn't a clear better alternative. Also a really good chance neither is on the roster by the end of the year.
  10. It's bad. My main complaint is they really could have aimed higher with their FA acquisition. Take someone with an upside with the promise of closing opportunities (ahem, Holland or Feliz or Casilla or Romo, etc). I think entering with a FA closer and setup of Pressly, Rogers, Kintzler would look better. Going to be an interesting year of lots of guys getting a crack at different roles.
  11. It's not like there's been a shortage of Santana conversation in the past couple of months and my answer hasn't changed. I'm not going to defend his performance the last two years, it's bad, and I know the defensive metrics hate him. But he makes the minimum, can backfill at a couple of positions, has a couple of really good tools, (briefly) flashed some skills, and can ultimately be cut for little cost. I don't mind giving him one more shot at the roster, he's not exactly blocking anyone worthwhile. If there was a player on another team like him that got cut, I would be ok if the Twins to pick him up and gave him a look. If the coaches want another crack at him, bully on them.
  12. I support keeping Danny Santana. Good move.
  13. I will predict he's going to be wrong. If it's less than the Rays got, they won't trade him.
  14. Duffey will likely end up there. But probably still worth another shot to see if he can make it as a starter, especially considering the alternatives. I think your last sentence is accurate for starters too. They are going to churn through several options to see what they have on all levels. Not sure if that makes me more intrigued or horrified.
  15. Looks like Wimmers was sent out, so Tonkin will take the last spot. Not what I chose, but I can live with it to start the season. Pretty much re-shuffling mediocrity anyways.
  16. I wonder how the local teams are going to impact sports gambling. Generally local teams/games are off the board, right (I'm thinking UNLV)? Or has that changed recently?
  17. A very real counter to all I've said is going down in Cincinnati. Amir Garrett and Rookie Davis both made the opening day rotation despite no major league experience. I think this ends poorly, but it is a good example of a team having no chance throwing the young guys out there. Will be interesting to follow. Also looks like Stuart Turner makes the team, at least initially.
  18. That is probably true. I thought even before the WBC the Twins would look to start Berrios in the minors to manage innings (or at least keep them lower stress). Really hard for a pitcher that young to answer the bell from day one and make it through the season.
  19. Souhan is going to Souhan.
  20. It's not like the backend of the Dodgers opening day rotation is anything special. They're throwing vets out there to see what sticks and keeping the young guys as AAA depth. Sounds pretty familiar actually.
