  1. Dems are generally more interested in governing and much more realistic about what is possible in government, perhaps too timid. But they would have done the same thing with the Supreme Court.
  2. I'll grant you the last point unequivocally. It happens when there is minimal update from 2000 years ago. Need to perpetuate the patriarchy. Even though I don't endorse it, I still think it goes beyond just temptation.
  3. Part A is big. Media (and society) loves a sex scandal, especially with politicians and religious leaders. Leads to extreme responses that harm everyone. This hurts women, but hurts Pence too, and by extension everyone he represents.
  4. Usual iteration of "Billy Graham Rule" is never alone with one woman in a closed office, dinner, with alcohol present, in a car, while traveling. Pence may have added more.
  5. Absolutely an issue, very unfair to women, as I explicitly said. But I'm not going to agree that's on the same level as "she's asking for it" or the burka.
  6. Rough couple of years out of the gate, but this should be profitable starting this year and for many years to come. The Royals are entering a bad place.
  7. Seems obstructionism is the trend, and Republicans were last in a position to obstruct. If the tables were turned it would be the opposite.
  8. You don't see a difference between an individuals actions and behaviors imposed on others?
  9. The counterpoint (from Law) is that he didn't keep his velocity late in the game. He can be decent but ace seems like a stretch if he can't figure that out.
  10. I do too. Unleash the talent.
  11. I don't think this is a fair analogy at all. I think it goes way too far/is too restrictive, and is very unfair to professional women, but it does come from a place of honoring a marriage, acknowledging one's own weakness, and protecting a public position.
  12. Meh. I save my outrage for the things that Democrats wouldn't do if the roles were reversed.
  13. Agree with this. And they have a pretty poor offseason. They'll have to be proactive with some trades, and if they don't hit on a couple of them it could be a long dark stretch. But worth it for a ring.
  14. It is pretty amazing he can take a pitch that is diving down and in and drive it that far to the oppo power alley.
  15. I'm not trolling, I think the DanSan hate narrative has basically gone off the rails and I like to push back against it. I have always thought he should get another shot this season, though I would have preferred as the 13th guy, not the 12th. I realize it is a minority opinion on this board. He does some things, has a few tools, has some upside, and has flashed in the bigs before, even if partially flukey babip fused. Probably likely that he is bad again this year, but I think he is worth another shot while he still is cheap.
  16. He also has a cannon arm and some sneaky pop. He has tools. 500 PAs over two years is a lot. It weeds out all the really bad players.
  17. Punto was a very valuable MLBer. He was also overexposed because there was a shortage of talent around him in the infield.
  18. The other thing I'll say about Santana, is the dude has flashed tools and is still only 26. He could have probably used more development time over the last 3 years, but he had too good of a year at 23 (albeit with a fluky babip) to fully commit to that development. He is proof of the problem faced by international signees and the need to roster them at a younger age. He's not going to be a great player, likely not even an everyday guy, but I still watch him and think there is something there. I would have preferred he was the 13th guy and there was a DH on the roster, but he doesn't put together the roster.
  19. Well, when you put that many qualifiers on it. This kind of analysis really shows the limits of just posting WAR and having that be the only conclusion. The fact that he got over 500 PAs shows he far from the top 5 worst. He was certainly overexposed, but if he was hidden a little more and played to his strengths, his WAR counting stats would have been less negative. If he only had 300 PAs, that would not have made him "better" but by this standard he would have been significantly better. I am interested to see him in a limited role and see what he can produce, now that he has no other options.
  20. The fact that you personally have asked a variation of this question dozens of times kind of proves my point.
