  1. He shut it down, at least one guy has passed him. Being idle allows others to look better and increases his own critiques. If he wasn't thinking this he wouldn't bother with a bullpen. Bully on Wright for being awesome, but if Greene was still pitching and flashing he might have staved off Wright.
  2. Seems at least one guy has passed him, perhaps more. Wright has made himself a couple mil.
  3. I know there are other factors and wouldn't play this way exactly, but there is over a $1mil difference between Twins and Padres.
  4. Looking like shutting it down might have cost him some money.
  5. Kind of an evergreen thought, but people on here would complain if they got hung with a new rope.
  6. You say that now, but I heard amputation is a possibility if he even comes within close proximity of a baseball.
  7. Ego, eh? Obviously the front office thinks he is an asset worth keeping, and so far they have been able to hide him and maintain a functioning roster. This last part is going to get squeezed soon. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on the DL soon. His shoulder is starting to feel "sore".
  8. The current bench is about the best that can be hoped for with 4 guys, role wise - a backup C, really good glove IF (that can play SS well), versatile glove with a decent bat, and a good bat that can play some 1b. Obviously almost anyone can be upgraded, but that isn't exactly easy.
  9. It would probably be a good sign if we see the next couple of Burdi outings with him coming in with people on base. Could mean they are ramping him up for a call up. Seems if he wants to get the call soon he'll need to shut down inherited runners from scoring.
  10. If the Twins start to stumble in the standings then a whole bunch of players could become available that shouldn't be moved at the moment.
  11. I don't know, I feel less of a sense of doom right now than 10 days ago considering the outings by Berrios and Mejia. I'm still stubborn enough to think Gibson has something to offer this year.
  12. I agree they aimed way low on adding talent in the bullpen for guaranteed contracts. But I don't see any neglect on bullpen management in season. This is all going to sort itself out, it has to. Keeping these no option guys hasn't really blocked anyone (assuming they don't want to move on Burdi yet), so there hasn't been any harm. They are enough of the option mop up guys floating around to move when the time comes.
  13. I agree on Haley, but don't think I'm going to spend much on the difference between stocking the end of the bullpen with Breslow and Wilk vs. Rucinski or Boshers. They have managed it this long, but their hand will soon be forced to clear some of the space in the pen. I do wonder if Haley makes it to September.
  14. I am making assumptions about health and effectiveness that may not come to fruition that quick. But I could see 4-5 starts in AA to get up to speed on pitch count and prove health, then move to AAA for 4-6 starts to show he can be effective.
  15. He's out of options anyway, so this is moot. Someone would pick him up if the Twins DFAed him.
  16. I think he'll end up as a mop up guy, making an occasional start. Or they'll just release him.
  17. Maybe Burdi could be up, I wouldn't be opposed, but it is still relatively early for a guy who didn't pitch last year.
  18. The talent level of the free agent signings is on the front office, but not the lack of decent pitchers with options. Good relievers with options are not freely available, only mlb contracts for guys without options, or minor league contracts for marginal guys with options.
  19. Gonsalves might be good to go in 8-10 starts tho. Could be quicker than we think.
  20. It was a one run game with 2 outs, runner on third when Escobar pinch hit. It didn't work out this way, but beyond the close OPS splits against LH, I think Molitor was playing a hunch that Escobar was more likely to put the ball in play, playing for contact and a hit and the run scoring over a more two outcome we're seeing from Vargas. I probably would have let Vargas hit myself.
  21. I'm not sure we can know either way with TOS surgery. He could be cooked, but might have some more recovery ahead of him too.
  22. I'll give Hughes some credit, he's clearly not right, hasn't been all year, but found a way to avoid getting pounded every game. The Twins even won 6 of his 9 starts. But he needs some time to get right.
  23. This is all correct. I'll give the front office some credit, they are a little handcuffed with relievers lacking options, but they have managed to finesse the roster to play with a 8 man bullpen while still keeping 13 position players. They'll run out of moves soon though, a lot fewer days off coming up. But yes, Mejia can get recalled for his next start.
  24. Guess they aren't even waiting to see if Gibson pitches well.
