  1. My my is Baker's deal looking better by the day.
  2. Which is fair. My original point was more that if you're waiting to overpay only a "frontline" guy - it's pretty much Grienke you're waiting for. I can see your case for Sanchez, but I wouldn't classify him there. And that's primarily why he'd be on my list of guys not to overpay for. (overpaying him to be a class of pitcher I don't agree he's in)
  3. I only argue it because it means I have trouble with calling him "frontline"
  4. Given his durability issues and lack of anything particularly flashy about his NL numbers, I would feel more comfortable classifying him as a very good 3.
  5. Eh, this was all predictable two months ago. You know, when anyone who said this was deemed blind, pessimistic, or anti-twins. This team's need for pitching makes contention pretty much impossible for awhile, especially since FA is about the only way to fix it and we all know this team won't (and often rightly won't) overspend for the sake of it.
  6. Good god....this thread is still going? Regardless of what Ben Revere is or is not - extending guys with roughly 2 years of service time is not a good idea. It is almost never done and for good reasons, all of which have been laid out ad nauseum. The fact that Revere has many question marks as a starter long term only bolsters what is already a definitively bad idea.
  7. Good to see you back Fro!
  8. Except there really aren't any frontline pitchers. There are a bunch of #3s that people are touting better than that and Zach Grienke. So get used to this.
  9. So....another thread in which many of the same people who campaigned to solve our pitching woes in free agency balking at the completely normal overpayments required to sign free agents? Jesus....ST can't come soon enough. Watching Duensing start is less obnoxious.
  10. He is, afterall, the king of cheap aces.....
  11. Huh? Reading comprehension gets a thumbs up. People have been making excuses for Ponder for months in this state - the true crappiness of his play is now shining through all that BS. And no, there are a lot of people in this state that have played the "well....let's wait and see!" game.
  12. You killed the scarecrow. No one was arguing the rest of the team is flawless.
  13. Quarterbacking lost us this game. It has resulted in other losses this year and should've lost us several others. Yes, the WR are not good, but Ponder is a large part of that as well. This is on him, stop making excuses.
  14. Never fear, some Vikes fans still want to make excuses! I'm not sure how to rectify the feelings of being right about Ponder from the start and the fact that being right meant certain doom for the team. Ugh.
  15. Let's all pick one obscure player and make a thread about him!
  16. In the spirit of your post - this is an excellent point if you ignore the fact that he twice threw interceptions in prime scoring areas, missed several open players with terrible underthrows, never set his feet for a throw the whole day, had a player give him 200 yards on the ground and constant 9 man fronts, and several his completed throws were off-target and took borderline heroic efforts to avoid further interceptions. That and the defense held their own with the best QB in the league. In other words, your post is stupid excuse making.
  17. Don't worry man, you've still got at least one more year to watch this wasted, reach of a pick. Meanwhile the line is giving him a ****-load of time, picking up the blitz well, Peterson is a beast, and the defense is holding their own.....all he had to be was competent and we could've stolen this one. Please Vikings fans, start the outcry. Let the franchise know it's ok to admit the mistake and move on. We're wasting some elite talent waiting to get the most important position in all of sports figured out.
  18. Ponder is single-handedly killing us on the road in Green Bay. He's had great protection, a back run for 200 yards, and all he had to do was make open throws and he's throwing it to the other team. And we still have another year of this in store. Good god.
  19. diehard....there is nothing serious about this thread.
  20. Punch that world series ticket. I believe this may be the first in a series of "hey, here's a guy who may or may not be dead" offseason threads.
  21. I think he's available...we should sign him.
  22. The skillset matters and Revere's is a dangerous one to extend because it is limited. And while people continue to want to ask "Was Span's a mistake?" - I'd counter with this: If we think extending players at this stage in their career is a brilliant idea, how would a 3 year 15M extension to Danny Valencia after his first full season look now? How did Nick Blackburn's look? Piling guaranteed money into a player at this stage is just not wise. Period.
  23. That's fine, but until we see results like Bourn, we shouldn't pay Revere. I'm not saying he can't reach that level, there is just zero logic in paying him based on the chance that he might be that level of player. Let's at least see which Revere is the real one first: pre-August or August and on before we talk about guaranteeing millions of dollars to him.
  24. Yes, but then you need to find someone actually comparable. Bourn was 75-100 points higher in OPS, that is not insignificant. Revere is barely a poor-mans Bourn so it's not that people are undervaluing him they are just being honest about his production at this point. Revere could get better, but it's hard to believe it's considerably better when you take into account what he does well and what he doesn't. The logic I'm hearing is "well what if he becomes a better player - then we'll have to pay him! Better pay him now before he's a good player!" Please take that logic and apply it to Parmalee. Or Hendricks. How about Valencia after his rookie year? It sounds really good on paper but there is a reason why no team in the league operates like that. We shouldn't buck that trend on Revere.
  25. Early signings often set the market. Especially since these early signings are supposed to be the bargain guys. Usually the huge overpayments are to much better pitchers. This year even the scrubs are making bank. Pettite at 12, Feldman at 6, Baker at 5 all indicate that the estimates here are about 40% too low. I would like to see the Twins sign Marcum and another 8-10M pitcher and that is going to chew up pretty much that entire budget assuming 25M. But it's becoming silly to see these estimates that are cartoonishly low.
