  1. Then keep it there. There is literally ZERO to be gained by reiterating it publicly.
  2. I don't care if he talks like a sailor and insults Plouffe into the ground in private - talk to him however he wants - but do it in private. The problem is that he is saying anything publicly.
  3. For Gardy, this seems like tame criticism publicly. Still wish he'd answer this question by saying something like "We may have been out of position there but you have to tip your hat to Kipnis for a good bunt" And then go talk to Trevor if you need to. A question isn't a gun to your head - sometimes tact is nice, even if it's phony. I'll take BS answers all day over less public humiliation of young players.
  4. I think taking into consideration Johan's price and his ultimate undoing for health reasons - the Twins got fair value. Problem is, it's better to judge the value by what they got perceptual at the time, and it wasn't good.
  5. If the Twins were handling their staff the most rational way Pelfrey would already be booted. I actually give Swarzak best odds to replace him, but not because I think he should. Just strikes me as the Twins MO.
  6. Kahn.....gone. And if you didn't hear his smug exit-interview with Barreiro you should go look it up. Thank god this guy is gone. It's one thing to make gigantic mistakes (how good would Steph Curry look playing with Rubio?) and it's another to refuse any accountability for it.
  7. I still think there are other alternatives. Give me Liam Hendricks and Samuel Deduno's flaws over Liriano's any day of the week. We can hopefully develop pitchers with the capacity to strike people out or at least trade for the work of other teams rather than resort to him as an option. I had, and continue to have, zero interest in having him hang on just because some like to be dazzled with what is ultimately a huge tease. (And I get why people are dazzled, Ks are borderline mythic for Twins' fans, but that doesn't make the delusions about Liriano any more credible)
  8. 2010? Edit: nope. Damn faulty memory.....
  9. Congrats.....to......Liriano? The Liriano defenders have long told us those Ks were bound to make him a top of the rotation pitcher. Reality is that he just isn't very good and is far too unreliable. But if you want to set the bar for good as "better than most of the Twins rotation" then there are a veritable s*** ton of guys that meet that. I guess I'm glad he's gone and would've rather he be replaced by someone not sucky. The obtuseness there is the implication it was either/or Liriano or our current crap. Give me neither.
  10. Yeah but Liriano is an ace. Strikeouts > giving up lots of runs in short starts...or so is my understanding. Glad we dumped his sorry butt on the Sox - couldn't happen to a more deserving team.
  11. Playing 9 minutes a game for one of the NBA's worst teams is hardly an assurance of a roster spot when you are 34. I hope he has a contract, otherwise I worry this might be mitigated.
  12. I will say, I worry that this guy might not get a job next year because he's not a very good player and this effort on his part may be minimized. Or that he may not get a job because of talent but it will be perceived as reinforcing stereotypes.
  13. Damn, sad I missed this today. Stupid work.....
  14. For all the recent optimism this thread should be a reminder of one of our biggest issue and the likely culprit for any falling off the team has. Just wait until the wheels fall off Correia....it could get ugly. but yeah, said the same thing about Pelfrey two weeks ago. Guy should still be rehabbing more than trying to cut it her.
  15. I'll start keeping an eye on them.
  16. Maybe, but a lot remains to be seen about that. One thing we know with reasonable certainty is that we have only one of this wave of hitters projected to hit for considerable power. The rest are probably gap hitters. I guess I'd just like a little more balance and power in the lineup to help facilitate the run scoring. It's not like they won't have positions available to put those guys at - Parmalee may not hit well enough to be at first and we'll likely have a DH spot. I think finding some serious power to pair with Sano helps considerably. I'm curious, would you rather have 5-6 guys in the Mauer/Headley mold (limited homerun power but good OPS) or 4 Mauer-lites and a two Edwin Encarnacion/Bruce/Laroche types. I guess I'm inclined more to the latter. That's more my point - this offense has a chance to be special in a few years but one potential weakness is shallow home-run options.
  17. As ashbury said earlier - it just makes it a lot more difficult. A couple classic power hitters only makes those other guys more valuable by driving them home in bunches. Morneau may be a shell of himself, but it's what he represents. Replacing some of that middle of the order power is going to have to be part of the rebuild.
  18. Yeah, I mentioned earlier about the benefit of Rosario's position. And you're right, you can acquire some hitters like Willingham that way but the one type of bat I think we need (other than SS) is the kind we're likely to see two of walk before 2015. Maybe we can replace that in FA, but it will have to be a part of the plan because we only have one of that type of player in our system right now.
  19. I don't want to insinuate that they are singles hitters, just not enough slugging. But maybe I'm being a bit down on Arcia after seeing that group of stats. I hope he can be a guy for that role.
  20. I have to say, I've long defended Koivu but this season was not impressive from him. He has to be better going forward and it should start tonight.
  21. I always chuckle when Christians get high and mighty about divorce. That one made me laugh too. As if the "sin" of premarital sex has one iota of the same amount of attention Christians are giving to gays. Also, didn't Christianity essentially start with God having premarital sex with a virgin? That was my understanding.....
  22. I'm bullish on Arcia too, but his track record has been as a very balanced hitter. I'm not knocking that at all btw, just stating that with the bulk of our elite prospects being offensive players we're going to need this offense to be really good to compete. I'm also not knocking OPS, but there is something to having a few of your high OPS guys being buoyed by slugging as opposed to OBP. A line-up of all OBP-heavy guys leaves a bit to be desired. Even mixing in one more slug-happy guy suddenly makes all those OBP guys that much more dangerous too. We've got lots of guys taht project more as great 2/3/7 hole type hitters, I guess I just see some significant room for improvement in the middle of the lineup with Sano. Still should put pitching first, but I think another big time power potential prospect is right behind it.
  23. I'd take a Kubel to go with Sano, I'd feel better then. Maybe Arcia is that guy, but when you start projecting most of these talents power is one thing you could say is not a strength. A solid 1-8 of OPS guys would be awesome, but I'd like to see some more of that constituted in power.
  24. Still, having only one major power source could be an issue. It will help if Rosario's bat is at second but you are still talking 20ish homeruns as likely projections for all non-Sano ideal power positions. That could still be a good lineup but I'd prefer at least one other bopper.
  25. If 2015 is ultimately more attainable.....where does Santana project to be by then? One other factor to consider is where elite power is going to come in future teams until Sano arrives. (Though now that I say that I guess 2015 maybe right for him anyway)
