  1. Fine, but he's 25. And he plays a position we only have one other capable player at who happens to be hitting well under .200. This is a bit mind-boggling. Since this is a lost season (something the Twins even seem to be aware of) why not call up Hendricks? He's proven all he can in AAA already, so rather than dump a 25 year old that plays a position of needed depth, why not just call up Liam? There is literally no way to wrap your head around this choice. There may have been a dozen better options.
  2. In other Top Gun related news....today is Saturday. And there is a Game 3 in the NBA tonight. And pickles are tasty. That is all....for now.
  3. With the amount of bench time...this was the right move. Now blaming the person who keeps benching him for the Hairy Circus in RF...that's another matter.
  4. Hmm, had tried that. I'll have to keep fiddling with it I guess. And no wisecracks about that second line.
  5. To Snepp: In seriousness, tested some more, only find the problem when I search by username.
  6. Well, for fun I'll take this article seriously: So now we have a pitching coach bitter with strikeouts because he couldn't get them and a manager bitter at anyone that can both field and hit (especially middle infielders) and treats them similarly. Poor Bartlett, he and others paid for the fact that Rafael Santana could get his OPS north of .600 from time to time.
  7. Am I the only one that has almost no luck whatsoever with the search function? For instance, I can search for myself using the simple phrase "2015" (A number which I know I said during offseason discussions) and I get no results. No matter how vague I make my advanced search, I can't pin down old posts. Am I just incompetent at this or are others having this problem too?
  8. Well, I would suggest another key difference. This is a club that has all but an allergy to giving pitchers money. Perhaps they're stringing out Gibson because even now they don't anticipate paying him when he's 31/32 years old and pitching well. I realize how pessimistic that is, but look at the track record too.
  9. I guess a range-less defense + a high contact pitching staff shouldn't be all that surprising to result in a high BABIP. But yeah, some of us did in fact suggest an improvement in the rotation wasn't a given just because they changed the names in the mix.
  10. Those kind of confidence levels defy the results if nothing else.
  11. Well, that's the problem. It can certainly work - it's just dramatically less reliable. Odds catch up in a long season, so citing specific successes isn't a very good argument.
  12. It's not quite the same, but I say it lives on in a bastardized form. But alive nonetheless.
  13. I for one am just aghast that people would bring up Gardy's established record with young players in a thread about a promising young player on the bench again in favor of a man that could make a one-legged dude with vertigo look like a gold glover in RF. It calls for nothing less than an irrelevant rejoinder. What? That already happened. Oh....
  14. Where is that Picard facepalm jpg when ya need it.....
  15. KC is a good lesson for us right now in fact. Don't start counting chickens (even elite ones killing the ball in the minors) until they hatch.
  16. If you're going to have a heavy contact staff - wouldn't the ability to turn extra outs in the field be a priority? To me, if you're going to be cheap in the pitching in favor of contact/no walk guys - you should be prioritizing a defense that can really help them. We have just about the exact opposite. We have the same approach to defense - minimalist - just don't make obvious mistakes (walks, errors) and we can tolerate that you don't do other things well. (Strikeouts, range) To me that combination is ass backwards.
  17. Well, this is easily explained. The first inning is far and away the most likely time one of our starters will still be in the game!
  18. I wonder how much input Anderson has in who the Twins bring in and who they call up/send down. He's been around long enough that you'd think he has some influence right?
  19. We should totally talk about what is actually happening: Pelfry sucks, Correia going back to what he actually is, Diamond regressing, bullpen coming back to the fold, the offense can't hit, many of the young players aren't playing, Mauer only has 13 RBIs, Willingham is doing his best Butera impression, Morneau is doing his best Mauer impression, and I could go on. But I'm sure no one would complain about those topics either. If anything, this is about the most positive thing people could talk about right now.
  20. So rather than seeing the good prospect pitch you'd rather see the 30 year old, consistently awful, still recovering from TJ, with a self-imposed innings limit? Uh, yeah, I'll raise my hand for "no thanks"
  21. Ok, I'm not Parker, but is it just me or is Pelfrey's release point getting lower and lower?
  22. I don't mean to totally undermine what you're doing here but one thing to consider is that only taking the last four years leaves the issue of poor drafting to undermine conclusions. For example, if you picked another four year period you might find Pitt or Oak is aggressive (just examples) because the talent they drafted warranted it. It may be helpful to do this over a longer stretch. Personally, I don't get caught up in all this. Do what's right by the player - whatever that might be. Call them up quick, make them take eight years, screw service time, etc. - do what's best for the player's long term ability to help the team. I think that is far more case-by-case than this discussion is taking account for.
  23. Is there any doubt that if Hendricks gave up 4 runs in the first two innings we'd have heard about how he gave away the game at the outset? My dislike for the Correia signing isn't lessening as he becomes the new pet with limited talent.
  24. Well, seeing as how the Twins punted this season in November, I don't feel quite as bad for rooting for Correia to fail. I have a slim hope that it may teach the Twins a lesson in what to do with their money. Yes, Gandalf, a fool's hope. But a hope nonetheless.
