  1. This is all spot-on and it was just as spot-on two months ago. It's a shame we've had to endure 8 months of this dreck.
  2. I struggle to ever think of a time that it benefits a young player to have concerns like this expressed to the media. If his peers in the lockerroom and his employers are not enough to pressure him to change, the sea of nameless faces in the crowd isn't going to suddenly get him to change. This wasn't as bad as usual for the Twins and young players, but still completely unnecessary and fruitless.
  3. Correia should have been cut on February 25th much less May. I have a hard time swallowing the argument that the Twins acted quickly on Pelfrey. At this point every start past this one is terribly slow in pulling the plug. The guy has been awful and we don't need to see 3 or 4 more to make that call.
  4. Letang and Koivu aren't that much different as trade pieces. They're both players with one aspect of their game sorely behind the others. The Wild definitely have ammunition to make moves, that isn't the problem. They also have the cap space to get creative with those moves. Kesler should be a target for them. He's been demoted to the second line and there have been issues with him there as well. The guy is inconsistent and not known for being fleet of foot. Among many other issues with him I just don't like the fit.
  5. Sorry, stuck with Vanek on the brain. I think it's worth a shot with Kesler, there are a lot of issues in Vancouver and they need a total rebuild. I think he's a guy you can go out and target as an ideal replacement of Koivu. And since I think the odds of landing Kessel are somewhere between slim and none....I'd rather target someone who might be more obtainable.
  6. It's not just injury insurance. It also had to be looked at as insurance against "just in case we need to send this kid down to develop him properly". That's the far larger mistake here. Injuries are injuries and can't be predicted easily. A young player with confidence issues and a historically bad start to his career? Not exactly fortune telling required.
  7. Here's a crazy idea: Koivu, Zucker, and a pick to Vancouver for Kesler? Right handed shot, good defender, better skater, better scorer. He'd make a good fit and there would no longer be a pressure to treat anyone other than Granlund as the top centerman. (Like, say, putting Koivu on the powerplay....constantly....*puke*) Also, on Kessel - not a good skater. I think I'd rather them look at a guy like Cammalleri who has some position flexibility.
  8. Maybe not, but the pickings look to be slim this offseason.
  9. This team isn't that solid on defense. Is Dumba possibly an answer to that? Sure, he might be. But right now Stoner-Prosser is not a particularly good third pair. I'd like to see the team add a physical defenseman to the mix and let Dumba get a slot over one of those two. Then Stoner moves into the role of being a swing player for injuries.
  10. In further news....it appears one pitcher is safely in the "adult" group and not in the "petulant tool" group of ballplayers. Good for you Mr. Hudson.
  11. You don't give non-elite players deals like this. The day may come to smartly buy out some FA years, but it sure as heck isn't now.
  12. To be frank, you've gotta get over that. Ryan Miller is going to make a boatload and be overpaid. The key is not to focus on the money but on the skill fit. Maybe Phaneuf isn't that, but I can tell you that of the 10-12M the Wild have to play with they WILL overpay someone. And with this FA group that isn't going to be pretty.
  13. Rumors are Phaneuf hits the block this offseason. He's a Cooke-type punk but a damn skilled one.
  14. Honestly gunnathor, I don't see the need to get into a "Why Anderson needs to be fired" discussion and start evaluating how coaches are or are not successful. It's likely we wouldn't even agree on the terms of assessing that. In my opinion, however, I don't think we even need that discussion. I think it's hard to argue anything other than it's time to move on.
  15. Does he perhaps need convincing that he has groin injury?
  16. If we're looking outside the organization, I put in a big vote for Bourjos. Hicks and Dozier aren't a good comp either because Dozier was sent down for two months in 2012 to get things straight. Hicks hasn't had that taste and then uninterrupted time back down in AAA to get things right. I think at this point it's a necessity.
  17. Wouldn't you judge most of the bullpen success on the bullpen coach instead? I'm sure Anderson weighs in on that too, but there is a coach specifically for that area. Also, good pitching coaches clearly matter - just ask the handful of teams that are employing guys that make a difference. (pitt, St. Louis, etc.)
  18. Hicks and Parmelee are hard to compare because Hicks skipped AAA whereas Parmelee absolutely destroyed it. So in one case you can still argue that some seasoning at the lower level might help, but in the other the player has clearly shown they have nothing left to prove. Hicks needs to go down, maybe until the break.
  19. Hughes has been an absolute success so far. Let's hope that continues.
  20. It's the strikeout declines, the fact that we'd had awful pitching for what seems like eons now, and the fact that pitchers never seem to be able to maintain their success under his guidance. He's long overdue to be fired, whatever ammo adds to that is fine by me.
  21. Moulson (and Vanek for that matter) don't skate well enough to fit this team. Gaborik may actually fit for that but he'd be in the dog house for his defense in no time.
  22. Except we've been, by far and away, the beneficiary of bad defense more than the victim of it. Yes, we lost a game in Cleveland from it most likely, but we've also had a ridiculous number of unearned runs. My point with the 15-21 was just to show how small the margin for error is and this is not a roster, or a team playing well enough, to give the benefit of the doubt that they can keep avoiding that margin.
  23. Probably, let's see how it goes. The issue I take with this is that Worley wouldn't be the first clear failure by Anderson, it would just be one more in a growing list. Hughes might be one of the first true starter successes in a long while.
  24. Sure, but they've also had unusual luck with their opponents making ridiculous plays in the field and handing them wins. Again, it's a credit to the Twins that they won those games, but that doesn't diminish the fact that those sorts of wins aren't to be counted on. This is a team that does deserve a little good luck, but it could easily be 15-21 right now and we're talking a 67 win team projecting. (And this is completely bias probably, but I don't feel like I'm watching anything close to a .500 team. The record just feels like an illusion)
  25. If you look past the surface, it's hard not to see 17-19 as borderline miraculous. Especially given some of their own self-imposed problems to go with a few injuries. (Which happens to everyone by the way) The key to me is how much longer they can keep picking up wins like yesterday. I can think of a handful of games already that I thought they didn't deserve to get a W but were given one by the opposing team's incompetence. Kudos to the Twins for getting those wins (that's the Twins Way TM, afterall) but I'm not sure how much longer that will keep happening.
