  1. To be fair, Anderson should already be under the bus. Can you really blame people for trying to find more reasons to get him there?
  2. Callahan really isn't a scorer though either. You're right that they need more finishers, but 8 of the top 9 forwards look pretty locked in to me: C - Granlund, Haula, Koivu Wings - Parise, Pominville, Coyle, Nino, Cooke So there is probably room for a winger. I'd like to see them add another rugged defenseman that would allow them to use Spurgeon more selectively. Either way the FA class doesn't look stupendous. I'm guessing a trade is the way they go.
  3. Also, I think I officially have a hockey crush on Haula. My god that kid plays a fun style.
  4. I wouldn't, put that money into another defenseman. You're right, I totally forgot about Nino who is a player I'm already becoming a huge fan of. This team has a ton of exciting young talent.
  5. My question is, when Arcia, Willingham, and Fuld come back....is there a way for them to play someone in CF that has Fuld on the bench and Hicks in AAA? The best I can see is Parms playing CF. Which, sadly, I may not be 100% opposed to.
  6. It appears it's over officially. Now can it be regained is the better question.
  7. He was never given a chance from the moment they resigned Pelfrey and retained Correia going into the season. Perception of opportunity matters for players and the Twins set up a scenario in which there was basically no real opportunity for a number of key players. There should be a 100%, resounding condemnation from all Twins fans about this team's pitching coach if this happens again.
  8. The first DB they took is very interesting. Exum has a lot of intriguing upside.
  9. Sam really wasn't much of a pro prospect. Vikes came away with some interesting choices. I love the Yankey pick.
  10. File this under "not surprisingly".
  11. It's great that the Twins are a nice organization that largely treats their players respectfully. It also has zero to do with bungling your 25 and 40 man rosters. If it does - it's a problem. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
  12. From what I've heard the guy was the biggest freak of the combine. 32 bench presses at 225, ridiculous agility and speed, explosiveness. Basically a multipurpose weapon with crazy ability. Likely the third down back as well because they say his pass blocking is solid too.
  13. Coyle, Granlund, Spurgeon, Haula, and Scandella are becoming legit studs right in front of our eyes. Scandella isn't getting much play but the kid has been fantastic the last two series. It makes the future REALLY exciting.
  14. There are some real nice guards, linebackers, and corners left for us to pick from here soon.
  15. im much more the "tireless rebutter".....quite to a fault in all honesty. But this was great Dave. (Look....like a clown I just had to rebutt your list......sigh)
  16. I like Bridgewater. I think there was too much overreaction to one bad day. This is a guy who ran a pro offense, completed passes at a pro rate, read defenses and called audibles like a pro, and has pocket presence and awareness. Sign me up - I'm very excited about our first day results. Now go get another linebacker and a DB today!
  17. Sure, you MIGHT be able to absorb it. It MIGHT not sink your season. But it's stupid to invite the risk of it hurting your team when it's SO EASY to fix!!!! This team has willfully subjected itself to a risk over the faulty notion that it "doesn't matter" when it most certainly does. It's silly to defend the practice of willfully creating a situation you may have to overcome. Especially when it's easy to improve that situation with little or no significant cost. Maybe a handful of money and smart planning. Rather, we're tossing aside any need to be smart or prudent on the basis that it "can be absorbed". Smart teams don't subject themselves to risks they don't need to take.
  18. I've been railing against roster construction for two months now. Yeah, it's pitching and hitting that this team did a horrific job preparing for and the chickens are coming home to roost. But even I didn't imagine the team would be THIS creative in making a bad situation even worse. They took the ticking time bomb I was worried about and found a way to rig a nuke to it.
  19. But this is precisely what happens when you take the approach that roster spots can be flippantly tossed aside and "easily" overcome. You're welcome to have more rage and frustration with the problems compounding (it's warranted), but that doesn't excuse your erroneous defense of the 25th spot bungling either. Yes, it's more egregious and frustrating that they've done this with their entire bench. It's also still egregious and frustrating when they do it with one spot. It's demonstrably poor planning - it just compounds with each spot. So let's be done with the meme of "It's ONLY the 25th spot!" because this is the kind of nonsense that ensues when you believe that.
  20. It's all part of the same problem - flippant use of roster space. The 25th man SHOULD have value. It should red flag you that you're trying to justify one of Gardy's neurotic roster needs. You might as well be defending "We need a third catcher!" - they're equally as brainless.
  21. it was dumb for precisely the reasons you are defending: they were flippant about who they gave that roster spot to. Every spot should be treated as having value, but the Twins ignored that and took your "bah! It's just the 25th spot! Who cares?" approach and that's why this became such an issue. Ignoring the value of every 40 man and especially every 25 man spot has been a plague for this team for awhile. Situations like this shine a light on how absurd it is that the Twins act this way and equally absurd it is that some defend it.
  22. After all these boondoggles can we retire the completely erroneous myth/meme around here that "the 25th spot is irrelevant"? That's something people have been using as a blanket to defend obnoxious roster moves for years now. Nick is right on.....EVERY spot counts and should never be tossed aside on a whim. When you practice that kind of nonsense you deserve this kind of karma. (As RB rightly observed)
  23. I would've liked to see them move back some more but if Zimmer thinks he can mold this guy into a player, I'll go with it.
  24. I would love a trade back personally. I hope Mike Evans is in our slot and someone like SF is drooling over him.
  25. My god this is a great post. This needs to be quoted multiple times more so everyone who declared "Mauer will be even better in 2014!) can chew on reality a bit here. Those were such pipedreams at the time and here is reality again to remind us of that.
