  1. That's all fine in theory...but he's barely been a .200 hitter and isn't making strong contact from either side of the plate. If he was a .280 hitter from the right side who drove the ball, ok, I could see the optimism. But we're literally suggesting that a guy who has had his rear-end handed to him for about a full season now is magically going to turn things around by doing something at the plate he hasn't done since he was a preteen. Lauding this as worthy of giving a shot is just baffling to me.
  2. He should set up his lemonade stand somewhere more likely to sell lemonade than the place that is currently smashing his lemons and deflating his confidence.
  3. Did you abandon it against the likes of Justin Verlander when you re-learned? With a constant spotlight on you and open confidence issues?
  4. And the funny part is....you want to double down on that impossible situation by making him continue to play it out. People are talking about the dropped switch hitting like it's some sort of miracle cure. Even his right handed hitting isn't at an acceptable level, much less completely relearning something at this level. (A level, by the way, that has completely kicked his butt since he's been up) And while I totally agree Parmelee is likely to be incompetent in CF....continuing to throw Hicks under the bus doesn't just hurt us for a 3-4 week stretch. It's hurtful long term. We're talking about a player we nearly moved as the blue chip for Cliff Lee and hung on to. That's the guy we're content to keep running out there with a .190 batting average and miserable contact to learn something he hasn't done for 12 years. Against pitchers who are already too good for him. Even gag-worthy "solutions" like Parmelee in CF sound better than that. (And, to be clear, I don't advocate this as a good idea. I just advocate it as better than beating our head against the wall with an integral part of this team's future given the current roster)
  5. How about starting yesterday?
  6. I was glad they let Hicks have another shot at the beginning of the season. I was baffled by their complete lack of a backup option in CF from the get-go. One should not have happened without the other. And now Hicks is learning to do something he hasn't done since he was 12 while facing major league pitching. That's such insanity I actually believe putting Parmelee in CF is a superior option. That idea sucks, but it just goes to show how dumb the current plan is IMO.
  7. Yes, he was sent down. But all he got was 82 extremely uninspiring plate appearances and the same problems this spring. To me, that implies the problems haven't been fixed yet even at a level below the one he's hitting at now.
  8. You seem awfully dismissive of the idea of prospect development. How far does that extend? Call up Kohl Stewart now? Might as well learn and take his lumps right?
  9. And Hicks is as raw as they come. I mean, he had one of the worst historical starts to his career of all time. I would call THAT as raw as they come. My only concern sending him down is his confidence. Watching him play, however, has me fully convinced he is not ready for this league. He has fundamental adjustments to make that the added pressures of the big leagues might be making worse. To me, he needs what we did for Hunter.
  10. We just disagree about what is the worst option. To me, the worst option is making this kid play at a level he isn't ready for and possibly hurting his long-term future. Ideally we have a capable CF on the roster other than him, but that isn't the case. So personally I defer to what's right for the young player.
  11. Well, that wasn't necessary and I don't like it either, but that goes back to incompetence by the Twins in forming their roster. I think Hicks needs some time to refine his game at a place he's more likely to experience success when he makes good adjustments. Since he's overmatched in the bigs, AAA would be what's best for him in my opinion. This is much like what the Twins did with Hunter that helped him elevate his play. The awful situation in CF hurts, but you only compound that problem by refusing to do what's right by an important prospect.
  12. I also don't like watching guys with .190 batting averages hit or watch major league centerfielders see how many circles they can make trying to catch a ball. There are issues on both sides of this that speak to your point.
  13. Right, he needs PAs and experience - things he could get at AAA and have better odds at feeling success. Given how much people are openly talking about his confidence issues I don't think that should be ignored. I'm not sure how anyone can feel good about how he plays CF. I can understand thinking he'll get better, but that he's fine? I have no clue how anyone can have that conclusion.
  14. Perhaps. It could be the Twins feel demoting him will crush his already fragile confidence too. However, he has a lot to work on and a taste of success is most important for him. If that continues up here - fine. But if he can't have success and learn up here he needs to go down.
  15. Right now they are actively harming a player's development in order to win now. I don't approve of that. I don't approve of Santana out there either. Frankly, I'd put Parmelee out there. But I don't sacrifice the career of Aaron Hicks on the altar of contending in 2014.
  16. Since when has that been an issue this year? This team is still rebuilding, it should do what's right by it's most important prospects.
  17. One game into these guys being back and Pinto and Parms are on the bench for Kubel.
  18. No Parms or Pinto and we get Kubel instead? Ugh. Just....ugh.
  19. I'd like to see this experiment happening at AAA, especially since it's one he's open about changing because of a lack of confidence.
  20. I honestly have no clue who you are watching out there but it isn't Hicks.
  21. You're making an awful lot of assumptions about what it would or wouldn't take. I just think he fits the model of what was suggested.
  22. These are all reasons why he fits what John was looking for also.
  23. I think it's to Gardy's credit that he's letting Moliter and Bruno have more free reign to provide their expertise.
  24. I keep saying it - Peter Bourjos appears to be in the doghouse in St. Louis. He'd be ideal.
  25. So Parmelee in CF? I really hope this doesn't cut into his at-bats. It needs to be Parm, Willy, and Arcia every day in the corners and DH. Not Kubel.
