  1. He hasn't had enough to know that he might need some work? How badly, and for how long, does he have to fail before a long AAA assignment to get him right is in order?
  2. If no one has said "let's cut him", why are people arguing that he is being written off?
  3. This is the bizarre thing about Hicks, people say "don't write him off" but their method for proving they are behind him is to throw him in front of pitching that he has failed to hit at historically awful rates and/or put him in the right-handed half of a platoon. I can't think of writing off his future any more clearly or emphatically. He needs to start hitting. Actually hitting in the minors. Span and Hunter struggled too and one of them hit lights out in the bigs and stuck. The other stunk and was sent down until he figured things out. Here is what Torii did after being sent down: 368/403/727 for a 1.130 OPS with 18 HR and 61 RBI in a bit over 200 at-bats. Hicks you might ask? 250 PAs - 5 HR, 29 RBI and a slash line of 291/382/441 for an OPS of .823. The bulk of that coming in AA and not AAA. Why can't we expect Hicks to go down and blow AAA up before we GIVE him the job for a third time? What we're doing is the ol' definition of insanity.
  4. Yeah but then who saves us from that smug, self-righteous jerk? (Please say Batman or someone equally less lame than Superman)
  5. I walked away from this article feeling like this was a kid trying really hard to say what he thought people wanted to hear him say. Please....put him in AAA and figure out if he can hit and let him adjust down there.
  6. It'd help if he came in out of the bullpen to get us out of any pickles too.
  7. If only that was as easy as it should be.
  8. 1,000 times this. I HATE this aspect of spring training where we try and find a hundred excuses for the failures of the previous year and bang the drum of false hope. I have real hope, but articles like this repeated every year about Mauer actually make me more cynical than anything.
  9. Exactly. I don't like Schafer as the starting CF to open the season, but I also would've made finding a better option a priority this offseason. Why the Twins didn't for the third consecutive year is baffling. Just baffling. Hicks needs to prove he belongs. Hitting .190 in the bigs with a decent OBP and no power is not doing that. Put his butt in AAA and make him earn the job, something we still have yet to do and we're three seasons into his career.

  11. Overhang clearly got him. Cmon people, he's got a ton of potential as a hitter and I love the guy's attitude. But he's just a dude who is not gifted at catching baseballs, he's always going to be bad to really bad out there. He should be a DH but this team can't afford that, so let's hope he doesn't hurt us too much out there.
  12. The caution with that is that you are turning your back on some really outrageous atrocities to do that. I understand the appeal of that, but at some point doesn't a group/nation reach a point of violence that they have to be dealt with?
  13. I could be misremembering our own experiences with the little guy, but I feel like the upper half of the skyline (along third base closer to the budweiser deck) is almost always in the shade because of the angle of the stadium.
  14. Upper half of any section in the Skyline area.
  15. It's not that my mind is changed or isn't, I'd just like a contemporary study that is a little more nuanced and better tailored to really see the impact of the SB. It seems like an under-mined data point in baseball analysis.
  16. I'd like to see a good study on how impactful base-stealing is, one that takes into account more variables and starts with a better correlation. Comparing total stolen bases to win totals seems like a really clunky and ineffective way to study that.
  17. The hazing in football has been worse, my comment was more to the "tradition" aspect in baseball and how that covers so a wide gammet of nonsense on that fallacy.
  18. The culture inside baseball is ridiculously toxic. Less so now, but still just toxic as all hell - completely devoid or reason and maturity. I think most sports share that, but baseball clings to "tradition" and this kind of stuff worst of all.
  19. I think when Escobar gets at-bats that is one way it will happen. Santana's stronger side was left-handed. I wouldn't do it every game but I'd do something like that.
  20. Against Righties: Santana-Dozier-Mauer-Hunter-Vargas-Arcia-Plouffe-Suzuki-Schaefer Against Lefties: Dozier-Mauer-Hunter-Vargas-Plouffe-Arcia-Suzuki-Escobar-Hicks (Blech...I guess)
  21. I don't dislike the Red Sox for this, I dislike the system that allows it to happen. I thoroughly dislike the Red Sox for a host of other reasons though.
  22. I think this is only the beginning of some crazy finances. As these TV deals continue to escalate we're going to continue to be dumbfounded by the money being handed out. Time to start pooling and splitting media revenues baseball. As in, like 10 years ago you should've started.
  23. Exactly and well put. Part of why this "let them police themselves" and "locker rooms are a different culture" nonsense NEED pushback is because they insulate themselves from the outside. They start to think the behavior is not only acceptable but necessary when that couldn't be any farther from the truth.
  24. I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised, MLB morls and codes are preposterous and stupid on many, many levels. This is one they share with most sports though, not that it's much of a defense.
