  1. Great read, I'm really excited about what our OF might look like in the near future.
  2. I'll definitely agree it was an aggressive lie.
  3. The reason to presume would be all the outrage directed at Kim Davis and American Christians by the same political spectrum that relentlessly downplays the actions of Islam around the world. People get inconvenienced by a moron in Tennessee and we have huge moral outrage. People get thrown off a building and the primary concern is to remind everyone not all Muslims are like that. WTF? if it's not insensitive it's at the very least obnoxiously hypocritical.
  4. Except that it does need to be made. This is the equivalent of "first world problems" as a political ideology. We've lost all context for what real evil and awful behavior looks like if we think Huckabee is some kind of face of it. Liberals are the first to point out how the rich lack perspective precisely because they ignore the plight of those less fortunate. Or how rich white male politicians are quick to ignore the problems of women to suit their own interests. If you're going to make this argument - you're guilty of the same kind of flawed, narrow thinking. That distinction matters even more when you climb on your soapbox to yell "racist!" everytime someone points out what is happening elsewhere.
  5. Is Huckabee going to throw gay people off buildings? Or stone women in the street for "adultery"? No? Ok, then let's stop with these comparisons. Yes, Kim Davis is a repugnant moron, but that is a FAR cry from what is happening to gays, women, jews, christians, and peaceful, modern muslims at the hands of many followes of Islam. So let's never even suggest with a straight face that there is a comparison.
  6. I think most Christians are not in quite that league of extremism either. It's just not close and guys like Huckabee are still (thankfully) fringe candidates.
  7. I'm confused by this. It almost sounds like you're drawing an equivalency here. I hope not, that's the one area Christians might actually have merit in their whining.
  8. That's somewhat true, though most left-wing people are pretty brutal on Israel for no good reason either. But yeah, there is a bizarre double standard in willingness to attack Christians and Jews, but not Islam. On that issue there are very few on the left with any consistency or good sense. Bill Maher is taking a pretty brave and correct stance on it, but he's an island to himself on the left.
  9. If we weren't so PC, you'd really hear Christians get what they have coming every time they whine about being oppressed. There is a double standard on the left about Islam, though, that's very much true.
  10. Well, mike has a point though. This issue generally gets derailed because the two factions are both going in two opposite, bat **** crazy directions. The right uses anti-Islam sentiment to drum up support while the left yells "racist" every time someone says "The Islamic faith is a major component to terrorism right now". I'd argue it's also a major problem with how we deal with the situation and it's my biggest beef with Carson here: it's a stupid point to make to try and galvanize support behind you by being anti-Islam.
  11. Republicans and the base they think they need to win elections have an ever-shrinking group of people that agree with them on some huge issues.
  12. Let me couch this by saying one of the most obnoxious trends out there is Christians whining about being persecuted ala Davis and Huckabee. It's beyond ridiculous - they need to shut up. But, I think the point Carson was very poorly making is that he'd be concerned having a Muslim in the oval office during a time when the greatest threat to world peace is the instability and radicalism in that religion right now. I don't necessarily agree, but I can't totally dismiss the issue either. He was an idiot to phrase it like that or talk about it at all, however. But let's be clear - not all Muslims are bad people - most are wonderful in fact! (Being a teacher for Somali kids has been a treat, the parents are generally great to work with!) - but we also can't ignore the reality of the world. It isn't racist or hateful to say that Islam (misused or corrupted or whatever) is a major component of terrorism and violence.
  13. Everytime I even looked at Scott Walker I couldn't get past the thought of: "This guy is a total gomer. What the hell is he even doing on that stage?" Good riddance.
  14. Yeah, Carson is a bit of a crackpot, but we were talking about tolerability relative to the rest of that field. The only guys I'd seriously consider voting for are Paul or Kasich.
  15. We don't have to quantify what Torii brought for intangibles, I think most reasonable people will agree he did. He also was a decent player on the field and a bridge for this team that it needed. It's also true that the bridge hasn't been necessary for about a month now and won't be necessary next year.
  16. Rosario is the very definition of what used to be called a "gamer". He's that grind it out, maximizes his talent, always gives you full effort kind of guy. When you combine that with some serious baseball talent you have a guy to really count on. I think he's going to be great for a long time for this team.
  17. I really don't understand why we want to use WAR in this case. It's just totally unnecessary to demonstrate why it'd be a bad move.
  18. Have you just started following politics?
  19. How anyone can complain straight faced about lies helping a politician from either party is beyond me.
  20. Well, that's politics.
  21. I'd sooner see all drugs legalized and regulated. I have a hard time fearing the consequences of legalizing anything when we're so content with the catastrophic social effects of alcohol. Seriously, how much worse could legalizing and regulating everything be than the abuse of alcohol and the effects that has on violence, rape, and a host of other issues?
  22. Let me be clear, Hunter has been a fine signing for the team this year. However, we go into next year with Rosario, Hicks, Buxton, Arcia, and Kepler as possible outfield options. It's time to say "thanks" and throw him a nice retirement party. NOT give him another contract.

  24. Smoking weed is only a crime because we deemed it so, it's not remotely in the same group as rape and murder. It's going to be hard to take your views seriously if you keep making comparisons like that.
  25. The squeeze idea was fine, the problem is Trevor Plouffe is one of the slowest humans on the planet.
