  1. I think a successful CEO is a good quality for someone wanting to get into politics. But one should serve in the Senate or other places to better familiarize themselves with foreign policy issues and domestic policy. Pulling a Carson or a Trump is just absurd, as demonstrated many times by those same candidates.
  2. Fiorina is constantly pimping her HP record and Brock is spot on: the business community felt so good about her track record the company value skyrocketed for firing her. She's also lost a lesser election already too. Kasich is a good candidate. His problem is that he's too rational for the party he's running for.
  3. I think Rubio has a prayer if he wins the nomination and pulls a Romney where his positions suddenly look less ridiculous because he's no longer pandering to the base. Fiorina is good in debates, but her actual track record is pretty ugly.
  4. I'd sooner move to Canada than see Cruz win. What slime.
  5. Good article by Twinkie Town. No one is asking for a palace for children...but something would be nice. Anything really. Just, as mentioned, to serve as a brief thing to go see for an inning or two to get up and stretch. I've been to a lot of the new ballparks and it's a very noticeable difference about TF that we have nothing for kids. I didn't mind pre-kids so much, but now that I have one it is a big deal. I would venture to guess there are a lot of baseball fan parents who would like to see that changed. Hopefully the Twins recognize that blindspot as well.
  6. That is surprising. He's a pretty sharp GM overall.
  7. Amazing what happens when you put Lavine and Rubio on the court at the same time. Let's do that more often.
  8. I'm not trying to make you flip, I'm asking for help finding comments from him that support whatever the hell it is you are arguing he said. Frankly, I seriously have no idea what you're talking about. I read the first page of the thread and now these responses and I am totally lost. They don't seem to jive at all.
  9. He doesn't imply that at all. Or any weird variation of that. Nor can I find any evidence that he went out and made sure people understood that he was saying minorities aren't smart enough to be GMs (which you said he did on radio interviews).
  10. Ben, you fired right off the bat that he was implying minorities weren't smart enough for Ivy League schools, Dave pointed out that he said nothing of the sort, and you said in subsequent remarks he made it clear that he was making that implication. So which is it? This version of what you're saying doesn't jive with that. Pointing out that there aren't a lot of Ivy League statisticians that are minorities is not saying they aren't smart enough. It's just pointing out that there is even less diversity in that field of candidates than an already largely white group of candidates. Pointing out a fact doesn't mean you're making a value judgement, it's just pointing out an unpleasant fact.
  11. You've stated your impression of what he said, unless you're suggesting Rosenthal was quoted as saying "I was trying to make mildly racist remarks" I can't find anything of the sort on the issue and I'm having a lot of difficulty swallowing this perception of his article. Nowhere can I find him doubling down on a notion that wasn't even in his original article. Why he would go out in interviews and say "minorities aren't smart enough for Ivy League schools" seems...implausible.
  12. I have tried many searches about radio interviews with Wilbon and Rosenthal and I can't find a damn thing about it. So, by all means, indulge us with the comments he's made.
  13. Seemed like a good, down to earth guy. Sad he had to walk away from his dream job on terms that weren't his own. I hope he finds a healthy way to be around what he loves.
  14. Where did you see these interviews?
  15. Then you are essentially eliminating any high level FA signings. It's Nolasco territory or worse if that's your hang up.
  16. I was trying to stay as realistic as my offseason pipedream would allow. I'd have had him somewhere right of Escobar if I really want to dream.
  17. The future of RF is some combination of Arcia/Kepler/Hicks. Not Plouffe...that should about wrap his involvement in this thread up.
  18. Why do people insist on signing FA starting pitchers? The track record there for getting bang for your buck is atrocious. I'd much rather sign a big money, 7 year deal on a hitter who plays every day. Chris Davis and Sano in the middle of our lineup alone would instantly put us into contender status. This lineup: Hicks-Dozier-Mauer-Sano-Davis-Lucroy-Rosario-Escobar-Buxton has potential to be scary good. Give me that over Jordan Zimmerman or Zach Grienke every day of the week. I'll roll with the guys we have in the rotation and hope for big upside from Berrios if that group is the one pounding runs on the board. It is a FAR better use of the money and the first round pick it's going to cost to add a top level talent.
  19. What spycake said - it's disappointment with the priorities. And that disappointment is deepened by my desire to want to bring my family there more often and seeing that as a lower priority to drinking establishments. It is what it is, I'm still a Twins fan. I'm just also still a Twins fan that attends less games because of choices like these.
  20. Sure, but Plouffe's time here is fading. If you can sign Davis and use Plouffe to augment your team in another area, that's worth way more.
  21. Yup, it's the plan I've been setting out there. Bonus if you can somehow move Plouffe for prospects to land Lucroy. This team has plenty of money to spend - go get Davis and make the middle of the lineup truly ferocious.
  22. I thought his point was that the trend towards hiring Ivy League statisticians over former players/managers was going to further restrict the diversity of candidates. It's not entirely preposterous. I don't think Rosenthal is saying "minorities aren't smart enough to be Ivy League statisticians", he's saying there is even less diversity in that group of candidates than there already is with experienced baseball guys. There could be some truth to that, even if it's not pleasant to acknowledge.
  23. Cooper is also fairly common sense in his approach, which is also doesn't jive well with a lot of the stuff Sanders says.
  24. Literally no one has said this. Target Field has nothing oriented for kids physically within the stadium and is adding a 45th bar. The suggestion is that space might be better used for something the park doesn't have rather than another redundant thing it already does.
  25. Well, right, but for some of us that want a reason to bring our families to the game this is disappointing news. I think it's fair to vent some frustration at that.
