  1. Fangraphs had not counted some of the misc. hitters mixed in, but 450 of the 550 at-bats (Vargas and Sano) were .807. Assuming that Park basically replaces that it doesn't change my point. He'll have to outproduce that stat line, not the cobbled numbers of Mauer, Nunez, and others.
  2. I guarantee if we had Latos people would be calling for him to be near Cy Young rather than expendable trash.
  3. I'd have matched Detroit's offer on Lowe in a heartbeat. Basically, I would've liked to see their early aggression target bullpen rather than DH.
  4. Because it's an adjustment. To upgrade on an .807 OPS is not some easy thing. Only 40 qualified hitters in all of baseball exceeded that last year. Assuming he has 500 at-bats you're basically arguing he can be a top 50 hitter in baseball. I wouldn't call tapping the brakes on taht pessimism.
  5. The problem is, even if you like the value signing of Park (I do) it didn't exactly address an area of need. In fact, it may end up causing more problems than it solves depending on how many Delmon-esque adventures we see from Sano. Where there was need we made one move in Murphy, but we did nothing to address an area that needed help. We can quibble over D vs. C or whatever, but the truth is that we just didn't do enough where there was opportunity and need.
  6. Do you realize what you are projecting Park to do to be "better"? You think he's going to be a .800+ OPS player from the get go?
  7. They did not upgrade DH and RF - you're counting Sano twice to make your point. This team said itself that it needed bullpen help. By their own standard they came up short.
  8. That's what we keep thinking. Until he announces publicly he needs sunglasses because the concussion is still affecting him. I think people are turning this into some kind of anti-Mauer conspiracy when the real impetus for any questions comes from the fact that Mauer announced (several years removed from them) that the concussions are still a factor. That makes most of the chatter here legitimate, if it's still not our decision to make ultimately.
  9. Well, maybe we're thinking of this the wrong way. Isn't the belief on the right that all government agencies are massive wastes of time and money that make things worse? Maybe we're going all bout this Department of Jesus thing the wrong way....
  10. I think they finish ahead of us, but how much is going to depend on if that anemic offense can manage to be just a bit better than their talent would indicate.
  11. Hit streak, to hold a virtually unbreakable record would be a legacy that long outlasts the triple crown.
  12. I hadn't heard that from Kasich. That is impossibly stupid.
  13. I don't think that first part is true though. One of the things suspected to make concussion recovery harder is physical exertion. Is it impossible to think that a part time role may not aid his recovery? Or reduce symptoms? Ultimately that is for Mauer and his doctor to decide but I don't think concussions are as simple as all ready to go vs completely unable to at all.
  14. I stand corrected, my memory on his durability appears to have been faulty.
  15. Yeah, but that's the same sort of depth argument we heard when we said we were 6-7 Kevin Correia's "deep". Depth only matters if you're filling the spot with a capable player and your argument hinges on stars getting hurt to even things out. To me, the biggest reason I call this about a wash is that I doubt Adam Eaton stays healthy long enough to give that team the kind of production he's capable of. Without him, then the OF becomes a more significant advantage for the Twins. But on paper, barring injuries in both length and degree that we can't predict, I think the Sox are going into 2016 with a better team. However, the youth on the Twins is a wildcard that could change that equation in a hurry.
  16. Indeed, but it's been a major point of conversation for my wife and I over the years. She has vivid recollection and I have virtually none, so we find each other's experience hard to fathom. It'd be nice to have a taste of it if nothing else.
  17. That and the finger toothbrush scene were my favorites for different reasons.
  18. I disagree, but largely that's because I don't know what to expect out of ours more than theirs. So some of this is obviously guesswork as it always is.
  19. I disagree we are guaranteed to be better. We are depending on a lot of young players and anyone that tells you they can predict their production with any certainty is lying. This could be an adjustment year for us, or we may just hit the ground running. But let's not pretend that the two biggest advantages between these teams favor the Sox. Their rotation and 1B production is much better than ours.
  20. Simply checking off who has a better player isn't fair analysis though. Tom Brady is better than both Andy Dalton and Johnny Manziel, but the difference isn't the same. The White Sox rotation is significantly ahead. And it's a known quantity. I would probably agree about 2B/3B and the OF, but the margin isn't significantly in the Twins' favor. At least not until Buxton steps up. Is Park better than Laroche? I'm not ready to say that. Abreu is miles better than Mauer. I also like their bullpen, in general, better than ours. So, yeah, I'd say on paper where they have an advantage it is much more stark than anywhere we have one. But some advancement by young guys could change that.
  21. Yup, the bar scene was great and you can tell the idiot computer guy is going to set the major storyline rolling soon enough.
  22. Correct. Twinsdaily needs an article explaining what a "floor" is, this mistake is made a lot.
  23. I very rarely recall any dreams, so I may answer yes just to see what the hell is going on in my brain at night.
  24. I think sitting here and talking about "going forward" is intentionally moving the goalposts. We're charting them for 2016 and, at least on paper, they have a stronger roster. But that's arguably been the case a lot and the performance on the field doesn't match up.
  25. Yup, I echo north...I'd give up my taste. Plus, I might be inclined to eat healthier that way.
