  1. Maybe, but when's the last time you recall a candidate passing out on a prominent stage like that? That'll never be back page. If Obama keels over tomorrow at a speech about energy, I guarantee you that'll get plenty of coverage too.
  2. That's fine, but she collapsed. Physically collapsed at a relatively major event. Why would that ever not be a major issue? I can't even recall the last time that happened, if it ever has before. And it wasn't just some pit stop in Cleveland to talk about jobs, she was at a 15 year anniversary of 9/11 and had to be all but taken out on a gurney. We really think it's biased coverage for people to suddenly start questioning that sequence of events? If the goal was "let's avoid making it appear like Hillary isn't up to the rigors of the job" - their strategy failed miserably. Miserably. And that's entirely on her campaign.
  3. Do you guys really believe there is just some unturned stone by the media that will magically get people off the Trump bandwagon? I keep hearing this argument that "if Trump were as microscopically analyzed then..." Wouldn't most of his supporters either embrace what you see as negative or spin it some other way? That's the nature of our polarized parties right now. So I just don't buy that complaint. This isn't the media picking on Hillary, this is Hillary's team doing an awful job avoiding a firestorm. Their candidate collapsed and had to be dragged to a waiting car. I don't care what gender or age that person is, you are going to get a ton of scrutiny about that happening. And all you had to do, a week ago when she likely had a cold that lead to getting pneumonia, was get out in front of it. Is there a sane person in the world who would criticize her for catching a cold after shaking the hands of thousands of people in different parts of the country? Sorry, quit looking for the "Woe is Hillary" crap. This is her team's fault.
  4. You left off the prerequisite "Would you vote Nick Punto into the Hall of Fame?"
  5. Warren is a one trick pony. It's an amazing trick but she isn't nearly as qualified as Hillary.
  6. I was going to make that point too. I think of any of the four I like Kaine the best as President. Clinton is right there second before the precipitous drop off to "Good god no" and "where's my pass port?"
  7. I agree, that's probably all it is. But it's their fault for not making it a minor thing. This snowballed, out of proportion take exists precisely because they let it get out of their control. I think she's fine. But damned if I don't start to question it when they seem so...elusive about it. They should've just said she had a cold last week. Pneumonia can often happen after a cold, so it's perfectly reasonable. But why be so elusive? If the campaign is worried about the perception of admitting she has a cold, I think it's safe to say their strategy for dealing with that has totally back fired.
  8. Health issues were brought up on McCain too. And Bob Dole if you want to go back that far. I agree that Trump gets a pass too often where the media gives him a platform and then doesn't hold him to his words. But the fact this went from a bunch of goofy republicans talking conspiracy to a legit issue is on Clinton and her campaign. If you're going to run and hide behind double standards every time they make a poor move politically, it's going to take the bite out of that argument real fast. (And there are legitimate times for that argument!)
  9. They're literally letting Trump back into this thing. (Which, conversely, may not be all bad for the Dems. They need people to turn out and a closer election probably does that)
  10. This organizational hierarchy can't get blown up fast enough.
  11. She was also coughing uncontrollably last week. It's probably inconsequential, but when you keep saying it's nothing and it keeps happening....voters are going to start to wonder. Hell, I'm starting to wonder. Not that it's something serious, but are the rigors of campaigning taking a physical toll? And if so, is that a bad sign for someone about to take on the rigors of being President? She's allowed to be sick, happens to us all. But if that's the case I'd feel a lot better if they just told us she caught a cold and had her rest for a few days. What they're doing instead just opens up more questions than answers.
  12. It is odd to me that they didn't just get out in front of this issue. If nothing else it's bad politics.
  13. The aftermath was incredibly difficult to process as it was happening.
  14. It could be, but I don't think so. Dougie was always a bit old school in how he handled himself. Not in a bad way, it just doesn't surprise me that his mentality matches his style. And for me personally, I'd rather have the GM and the manager working in concert on analytics rather than either one having an outdated viewpoint.
  15. I wish I could find the interview he had a few years back where he basically sounded like Gardenhire about metrics. It was with Reusse on 1500 but the link seems to be down. I've tried everything I can think of to track it down and I just can't find it. You're right that he SHOULD embrace them, but he doesn't. Or, at least, he didn't. He openly dismissed SABR and emphasized old school philosophies. I took the "I'll listen" from him the same way I take it from my wife when I tell her I have a sweet idea about turning the kid's play room into a man cave. That interview single-handedly took me off the bandwagon for ever wanting Doug as our manager.
  16. That's a fair point. On that I can accept and acknowledge criticism and grounds for firing.
  17. why can't that fit? Shouldn't the manager be judged based on his results relative to what he was given? If we had sent a team of 6 year old T-ballers out this year and went 0-162 would we complain the manager couldn't even luck his way into a win? And, even if you were to argue that Molitor didn't get enough wins out of his team this year, wouldn't most of us argue they got more wins than they deserved last year? I can't stand the Suzuki hitting cleanup, Danny Santana playing, the bunting tendencies, or the not playing of Polanco/Kepler, etc. Those things I have beef with and could justify firing him for. Connie Mack would lose 90 with this pitching staff. Firing him for the win total misses just how thoroughly messed up the roster construction was.
  18. Fair point, but there was a stretch of the season (the first two months) where the hitting was subpar. But I agree, run prevention has certainly been a bigger factor overall.
  19. Not wrong, just not insightful.
  20. They're coaches. Not wizards. We're on pace for 100+ losses because we can't pitch, hit, or field. This sort of goes back to my post a few pages ago: pick your favorite manager in baseball and we probably still lose 90+ switching him for Molitor. Unless you demand he actually be a wizard, the basis for your complaint doesn't sit well for me. It's possible for sloppy play to still be happening in September and for this coaching staff to have done everything humanly possible to fix it. They may even have substantially improved it and you are none the wiser because you focus more on the sloppy plays you continue to see and have no way of telling if anything has gotten better. Either way, they aren't wizards. No wizard I'm aware of exists that could have turned this group into anything better than a 90 loss team. Nor will any wizard make them mistake-proof in September. I can't judge the improvement (or even regression) of the team's fundamentals as a fan. Anecdotal observations of that sort are just a really flimsy case for me to swallow. Amusingly....in 2014 when we were about to fire Gardy we were also lamenting the collapse of fundamentals and how un-Gardy it was. Maybe it wasn't Gardy and it isn't Molitor....
  21. Again though, you can keep saying that, but how many things do you want them fixing at a time? Perhaps there simply aren't enough hours in the day to fix all the ills. Or perhaps the ills aren't as bad as they seem. Either could be true. I just have a real problem with the idea of saying "It's Molly's fault things aren't improved!" when we can't establish A) whether or not there is actual improvement or not (the existence of sloppy play in September is not a valid argument to the point you were making earlier) and near universal agreement that our development system has handed off a bunch of woefully ill-prepared young guys. I can demonstrate some of the beef I have with Molly. 233 at-bats by Danny Santana is a start. What you're arguing is your gut (that things seem to be stagnant) but you really have no basis for that other than a gut feeling. My gut feeling tells me you can't spin gold out of straw. As long as we agree neither one of us can know for sure, I'm fine with that. These sorts of evaluations are hard to do even if you're the Pohlads, much less fans.
  22. Right, but you're claiming they aren't getting better without having any real detail beyond anecdotal observation. Maybe it was happening 90% of the time in April and it's down to 65% now. I don't know, I've given up on watching the team enough that I'm not observing their play nearly often enough to draw conclusions. Not to mention TV viewing isn't exactly ideal for that sort of thing either. If you've been keeping well-detailed notes on it, that might be another thing. If it's just casual observation, you'll have to excuse me if I look at that with a great deal of skepticism. You may even be right, but just because sloppy play is continuing, doesn't mean there hasn't been improvements.
  23. How do you know attempts aren't being made to change it? I can pull a bad employee into my office every day to correct the mistakes. I can give them retraining, have them shadow other employees, work with them directly myself, discipline them, and a host of other things and it still might not change the mistakes. Merely seeing them again (potential perception issues aside) is not an indication that there is nothing being done. It's only an indication that nothing is being fixed. You seem to be conflating the two.
  24. I didn't take it out of context, I just snipped the part I emphasized in my reply. Here's the thing - are you tracking improvement by the young players? You say you're not seeing it, but is that perception or something you can actually determine in detail? Do you know they are ignoring it? Because I can recall at least once in which Molitor started instituting spring training drills in the middle of the season because of his own frustration. Do you have any inside information on how much the team is working and drilling guys on fundamentals? I don't, so if you do, I'd love to hear it. And, even if we could actually establish that it isn't just perception that they aren't improving, but actually cite evidence they are not.....isn't at least some of that due to the big leagues being a horrible place to try and learn fundamental baseball?
