  1. Why is a 104 wRC+ a point against him? Among qualified players this is where that would rank in baseball: 1B: 17th Best 2B: 9th Best 3B: 16th Best SS: 12th Best (Right behind Polanco if he had a full season) LF: 18th Best (Right behind Rosario) RF: 18th Best (Better than Kepler) That's not garbage. That's not a utility player. That's a guy with a ton of versatility who slots in the middle to upper half of wRC+ for every position he can play last year. Context matters. This reminds me of the "Adrianza sucks" thread where people didn't realize that a .750 OPS is a pretty good ballplayer in 2018.
  2. I would wager on Martinez Gonzalez.....but this was brilliantly done.
  3. What people want are unicorns. They want a wall to keep brown people out and make them pay for it. They want free federal "All the things" paid by rich people. Beware the candidate who promises that. And shame on those who can't see the folly of it.
  4. Ben, you had me doing this: You are so, so spot on. I'm sad it seems as though that will fall on deaf ears. I wonder sometimes why the Republicans are so much better at steering their coalition towards incremental victories that loom large over time. More pervasive talk radio? Fox News? Whatever it is, we need to implant your post in some left wing brains. Today. Before they blow it in 2020.
  5. Yeah, as you've said, those definitions are tricky. But whatever she was or what her policies were, that isn't why she lost. So using where she falls on the spectrum to judge the next candidate is a flawed idea from the start.
  6. They can still sign Kuechel or Kimbrel by the way. It doesn't have to be either/or.
  7. He's a capable switch hitter from both sides, he's going to eliminate the need for so many of these kinds of players and provide a lot of matchup advantages for this team.
  8. Hillary did not appeal to moderates. The mantra you keep marching out is not supported by the facts of the 2016 election. It just isn't. It wasn't about how left or right or moderate she was....she just plain didn't appeal to a large swath of the country, particularly in key swing states.
  9. Absolutely, Kavanaugh was a failure to pull over moderates. But, again, if that is your bar for what you want in a President - I can't imagine a WORSE candidate than Bernie Sanders. And if you're waiting around for some veto-proof majority or unanimous consensus to get your positions through....you're going to be met with a lot of disappointment. Plus, we all come from a state that has proven how effective the very thing you're dismissing can be. The alternate? (Only when we can ram through things on our own) has rarely proven to lead to good policy. Certainly not over the long term.
  10. Check for a video of the CNN Town Hall she did. It's a good watch. She challenges a lot of the current, further left platforms in reasonable ways. You don't have to agree with her, but I think it's worth a watch. I believe one of her first questions she fields is about health care.
  11. I'd be interested in seeing you lay that out. It seems to imply that anything passed bi-partisan is bad. Maybe you don't feel that way, but that happens a lot on the right and is growing on the left. I think that's a very misguided conclusion, but maybe she's been secretly Republican. But I'd like to see more about that criticism before I can buy it.
  12. So then it seems you didn't understand her. She said she wants to work towards that but it will come in parts because a whole sale shift isn't possible. Part of the problem is any time a candidate tempers aspirations, they get cast aside as "not supporting" something. She supports it, but her path to it isn't immediate. I wish we allowed for that nuance in our politics.
  13. Not to mention the overreaction politically it causes. The ACA was a major bill, didn't even go all the way, and it launched Republican dominance for a decade. That doesn't mean you don't go after it, but being creative and getting right-win buy-in helps move the ball forward and keeps them from gaining political advantages.
  14. But yet you support Bernie who has accomplished almost nothing in his time as a Senator. At least hold them to the same standard or don't pretend otherwise.
  15. I guess I'd ask you that. Didn't you just criticize her for suggesting exactly that?
  16. On CNN she said she wants to work towards single payer but she's not sure it's immediately attainable. She's been successful passing a lot of positive legislation by knowing how to get things done. So it's strange to me that someone who has voiced supporter for Bernie would somehow use "effectiveness" as a measure to criticize another candidate. But Klobuchar is by far the most effective candidate, by proof of legislative accomplishments, in the field. Does that mean she's the right candidate? I don't know yet. Arguing about how "L" she is is precisely the problem I was pointing out. It's doing the Republican's work for them.
  17. That has no bearing on what I said. And if the last two weeks have been any indication, I guess Klobuchar isn't either.
  18. I'm not sure what you mean by that?
  19. Exactly right. Gonzalez also has steady splits from both the left and right side, which makes him valuable to this team in platoon possibilities. I'm not sure what people think Cave brings to the table. You can only platoon him with Buxton (which, if we're doing that, it's bad news), he has limited versatility, and the underlying numbers behind his production are not something I'd bank on. Gonzalez is a pretty steady 700-750 OPS guy who switch hits and can play 4-5 spots. Sounds like a valuable player to any roster. Cave? Sounds like good AAA insurance.
  20. You mean tripe like this? Perfect is the enemy of good. And liberals don't f****ing understand that. It's a bit irritating since, I'll call it right now, that stupid attitude is going to get us four more years of Trump. It may not matter who they nominate if these first few weeks of the shift to 2020 is any indication. They won't need to worry about how the Republicans will win, they'll have already done the work for them.
  21. Jake Cave isn't a good fit for this team already IMO. You might be right, but I like my bench better.
  22. He might take Jake Cave's spot. Gonzalez can play the corners, both corner guys we have can play CF in a pinch, and that would allow us to keep Adrianza and Austidillo. A Gonzalez-Austidillo-Adrianza-Garver bench is about as versatile as any team in baseball. You have multiple players deep at SS, C, 1B, 2B, 3B, LF, and RF.
  23. Hell yeah. Sign him and we have a guy that we can play in the OF against lefties, Sano/Schoop insurance, and maybe a reason to cut Cron. Adding talented players with versatility is always a good idea.
  24. Well said Trevor Noah. Maybe that belongs in the other thread, but I think the vast majority of people (myself included from time to time) struggle with this. But there are growing factions on both sides that only operate this way.
