  1. Why on earth is optioning Park (hitting .763 OPS) in order to play Arcia more (.671 OPS)? This really doesn't make any sense.
  2. Sano has started 5 games at 3B and Plouffe hasn't started about 18. Something here doesn't add up.
  3. Plouffe on a one year deal is worth 10M next season. The biggest decision to determine if he is worth it to the Twins is whether or not they believe Sano can play 3B. Nobody here can really say but I am certain that the FO and coaching staff have an opinion even if they don't publicly state it.
  4. He would also be one of the biggest ever (The Panda and MCab were also terrible fielders) to play 3B so that is irrelevant. Sano likely can't play defense anywhere. Even 3B. It seems the answer here is to swap Park and Sano which means the Twins still need a 3B. Perhaps Polanco could play there. If not him then it is Nunez or Escobar. Plouffe is probably better than all of them regardless what his 2 months of stats say. He is a streaky hitter (usually 2 great months/yr) and I would not be surprised at all if he ends up with his typical .250/.310/.430/.740 stat line.
  5. I think it is going to come down to whether or not the Twins really think Sano is a 3B. Yes, I know that they have always publicly said it but I think Sano being in RF right now is partly due to their own doubts. Honestly people need to get over this mythical missed opportunity to trade Plouffe this offseason. There wasn't a market for 3B and the return would have been minimal. The better choice was to hope that an injury would happen forcing a team to offer a reasonable trade for him.
  6. Getting Deng would reduce Shabazz's role with the Wolves and it would allow Wiggins to get some minutes at the smaller wing. I think this is the perfect type of role player that the Wolves should go after. Batum/Barnes get mentioned a lot but this is much more affordable and the Wolves won't have to commit near max dollars/length to get him. It seems that every Bull and former Bull is going to be playing for the Wolves next season. I can't wait until Kirk Hinrich and Carlos Boozer are rumored to be Wolves.
  7. Buxton should come up when ready but I am not sure I would bring him up before August or September regardless of how awesome he does in AAA after two completely clueless stints in the majors. And if I am weeks away from delaying his FA by a year then you might as well call him up in September after the AAA playoffs. My prediction is that he ends up back up with the team in July because the CF is injured/ineffective.
  8. Why is everyone in such a hurry to get rid of Eduardo Nunez? Some are even non-tendering him. These same plans are calling for trading Dozier and Plouffe and leaving the Twins with an IF of Sano, Polanco and some unknown player. There is nothing wrong with having a veteran like Nunez that can fill in when a prospect horrifically flops (like the CF situation virtually every season for the last decade). Other threads are even blasting the Twins for not having a decent veteran as plan B.
  9. Whoever gets drafted won't be better than either Lavine or Wiggins so I don't understand your point. In addition to that neither Hield nor Murray (or Lavine) can guard most of the larger wings in the NBA. They would be drafted to fill the bench which is the biggest weakness going forward.
  10. Worst to first... This year has been brutal though.
  11. It is funny that this offseason there was so much concern about where Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Kepler and Arcia were going to play since there are only 3 OF spots and the Twins had questionably filled the DH spot with Park. Now everyone is questioning why a legitimate starting OF'er wasn't brought in. This board would have blown sky high if a decent OF'er would have been brought in and blocked Buxton or Rosario. This board hated Torii for filling that role last year.
  12. What indication is there about benching Lavine with anyone that is drafted? Lavine is only going to play 30 minutes a game and drafting someone like Hield is about the other 18 minutes/game that they need 3 pt shooting.
  13. This isn't about him leapfrogging buxton and Kepler. They have decided that those two are legitimate top prospects and they need more time in the minors. Grossman is being promoted because he is a warm body.
  14. I completely agree with this. Getting a nice wing scorer completely changes the bench. Jones, Murray/Hield, Shabazz and Bjelica should at least score points.
  15. Extremely unlikely considering the next best players are <6'5" and both the Celtics and Suns have 3-4 very good guards. Bender would be a great get but I don't see how he lasts until 5. I am guessing that we spend the next month debating Dunn vs Murray vs Hield with a little Brown and Ellenson mixed in.
  16. I think he is the type that makes you look like a genius because of his raw skillset or a complete bust. I am a little anxious to pick a guy that could help by the start of year 2. A guy like Hield could even be a valuable part of the 2nd team the first season but I see Ellenson as a longer term project.
  17. Veterans (or old people) that should keep playing almost everyday for the next 2 months include the following. If you bench them then you guarantee that they have no trade value. Plouffe and Dozier could be fairly valuable commodities at the deadline so I wouldn't think about benching them. In order for that to happen though you need injuries or complete ineffectiveness at 2B/3B to happen to a contending team. Mauer - playing well Plouffe Dozier Park - playing well Suzuki (lack of any other option) Polanco should be playing at SS some and getting an occasional day at 2B or 3B. I am not concerned in the least about May pitching the 8th or the 9th as far as his development goes. Starting is an entirely different argument though. Jepsen has thus far looked awful this year though.
  18. I have said it before and I will say it again but it is a long baseball season and teams need A LOT of starting pitching. They currently have way too many but these things work themselves out. The worst thing would be to DFA a couple of the veterans this early because once they are gone they can't come back and that is how you end up with Logan Darnell making 4 starts and Yohan Pino making 11 starts. This logjam will sort itself out although I would have preferred Milone hadn't been brought back and I really expected Nolasco to pitch himself into a DFA rather quickly.
  19. When Terry Ryan said 'no scholarships' he was referring to the Blackburn type situations where highly/moderately paid veterans were sticking with the team even though it was obvious that they sucked. How many games are you willing to let a prospect play through before you start jerking them around? A week? 2 weeks? A month? This is a decent team (although they don't look it) but they are still in the last part of the rebuild process and the young players need to have an opportunity to play through their struggles. You can't jerk young players around like that.
  20. the reality is that the Twins are 7-17 and they have almost certainly doomed this season. The SSS is a starting CF with a .500 OPS (and demoted), a starting LF with a .577 OPS and potentially stud RF with .745 OPS. The SSS is a borderline all-star 2B with a .617 OPS. The SSS is also a former MVP that looked washed up looking like an MVP again. The SSS is also a scholarship player looking like an actual ballplayer (Nolasco) but so far there are more disappointments that players exceeding their expectations. With that being said I didn't like entering the season with Buxton as basically the only option in CF with no plan B. I also didn't like how the handled the bullpen in the offseason. They certainly had a poor offseason. This isn't at all what no scholarship means. No scholarship is about a guy like Nolasco getting a chance despite being awful for multiple years and less talented than a prospect. There is no way that the Twins should be jerking players into and out of the lineup or down to AAA based on a couple of weeks of data. And this is even more true of young players and prospects that won starting jobs. Those players are going to struggle at times.
  21. Jalen Rose's next bold prediction: Duncan retires and Gasol signs with the Spurs. It is just fun to listen to him.
  22. Butler is a near elite player and it will take a lot to get him. This is only true if the Wolves move up to #1 or #2. There is no way that the Wolves can pull the trade off w/o Lavine or possibly Rubio (doesn't work with Rose probably) in the trade. There isn't anything else on the roster that is that valuable (Dieng but the Bulls have 5-6 bigs).
  23. Disappointment is part of the rebuilding process. The Twins have a lot of young and/or inexperienced players currently in roles or coming up this season. Nobody should be shocked that they have looked awful. I hope that one of Milone or Nolasco is gone by July 1st (or both) should be gone. Obviously the knee jerk reaction is both but injuries happen. Fien should also be gone sooner opening up a spot for a RP prospect. Suzuki should be playing 30-40% of the time. Plouffe or Dozier could be traded but only if a lot of talent is coming back. No reason to give them away just to play a prospect. blowing it up though would be silly with the number of young players in the majors and really good prospects in the high minors.
  24. This year and last year are completely different. Last year they were 3 GB of a wild card although they should have made some other moves (like calling up Berrios in the bullpen). This year they could play .500 ball and still be 9 games under .500 at the end June. At that point you would hope that they would start making some moves to a younger team. Park is one of the reasons for optimism regardless that he is 29. But he needs to show that he is a plus MLB player this season.
  25. I guess they aren't really out of it since they only need a .566 winning pct to get to 86 wins but I see the addition of Berrios similar to starting Lavine at SG and Dieng at PF. It didn't save their season since they still went 29-53 but it put two pieces of next years team into starting roles. And it has created a lot of optimism for next year's team.
