  1. Lebron is a top 3 player in the game whose natural position right now is the 4. Of course he was a better option at the 4. This is meaningless since Lebron isn't an option for the Wolves. Love had a really limited skillset because the system in Cleveland needed him to stay out of the way. Perhaps there are better options available (and that means actually available) but Love makes this team better. Okafor doesn't even though he isn't a bad player. He just isn't the right player for the Wolves.
  2. He was unplayable because he didn't fit the offense. Once combined with his defensive liabilities and Lebron being a much better option at the 4 it isn't difficult to see why he didn't play.
  3. Towns can be an inside/outside force on offense w/o Okafor around. In fact not having Okafor around makes that possible. If Okafor is around Towns becomes mostly an outside player or Wiggins/Lavine/Rubio are going to have no open lanes to drive to the basket. In 1984 Okafor and Towns would have been a killer combo but the current NBA is all about spacing the floor. Both Okafor and Love are defensive liabilities but Okafor completely changes the offense since he will be a post up player and allow one big man to stay near the basket. The other part that you are missing is that Towns at the 5 basically creates all of the death lineup matchup problems (dependent on the rest of the team being good) that the Warriors have when they have Draymond at the 5. I continue to offer Taj Gibson as a reasonable option that can be acquired. Competent offensive player and an excellent defender on a team with 3 potential 20+ point scorers. This is also the reason that I mention Saric in a trade for the #5 pick. Okafor is a great value in that trade but he is a poor fit on offense while not being good at defense at all.
  4. I am willing to trade Dozier for a good prospect package. For example the top 100 prospect and a couple of lottery tickets. If that doesn't happen then I have no problem benching either Eduardo to play Polanco at SS. I understand that 2B is probably his ideal position but he has decisively played more SS than 2B the last two seasons.
  5. Yes, there is no doubt that Towns guards a player like D'Andre Jordan or Andre Drummond (or any of the classic bigs) instead of Kevin Love or Jahlil Okafor. The entire defense revolves around the man in the middle. By pairing Okafor with Towns you allow the classic centers in the league to stay in the paint and guard Okafor. Towns is going to absolutely wreck Dwight Howard or Al Jefferson on offense since they can't keep up with him on the perimeter. That potential is gone when Okafor and Towns are on the floor together.
  6. You want your strongest defending big man near the basket instead of being a perimeter defender. Towns is special because he can be the anchor for the defense while causing the opposing big man big problems on the offensive end in addition to drawing him away from the hoop. The other reason that he is special is that he allows a team to play 5 quick players and if they can all shoot the outside shot then the middle of the floor is open for pick and rolls and slashing to the hoop. Adding a player like Okafor allows one big man to stay near the paint clogging the middle.
  7. Okafor would be dreadful defensively for the Wolves or any other team that would expect him to guard 4's. He might play the 5 on offense but Towns is the center of the Wolves defense. I would trade the #5 pick for Saric though and get him over this year.
  8. Listed heights and weights Murray 6'4" 205lbs Hield 6'5" 215 Lavine 6'5" 189 Overall I am just lukewarm on Dunn.
  9. I really can't see the Celtics and Suns both drafting guards so I question their methodology in the mock draft. This doesn't concern me at all. Simmons not having a jump shot (or at least not showing it) concerns me in the current NBA game. I am pretty set to expect Hield or Murray as a means to give the 2nd team a top scorer.
  10. This is one reason why I have been saying that Pekovic and Martin's salaries were actually beneficial to the team even if they don't play. It gives them substantial salary that can be exchanged if a high priced player becomes available.
  11. I think the best case is that Rosario is viewed like Dozier and Plouffe are now. And really, really streaky. We saw the cold streak in April. I wouldn't bring him up for awhile or until there is an obvious opening. Kepler is a tough case. I think he needs more time in AAA but I think he is out of options after year. He kind of needs to establish himself this year.
  12. Those aren't gymnastics. It is how you project players. You put less weight on stats from the beginning of their career because of the adjustment to the MLB isn't an easy one. You put more weight on recent stats than those from a decade ago. Looking at career ERA is lazy. One thing to do would be to go back and look at the threads from the offseason about Duffey and Gibson. People weren't talking about them like 'It's a longshot for them to be average pitchers'. As for the rest of your post we are talking two entirely different things. This is where the Twins are and for now those are the pitchers that they will have until the next wave of prospects come up behind Berrios and Duffey. I think everyone will agree that they shouldn't be adding anymore 30+ yr old veterans in FA. It won't be a great rotation but it is very likely to be better than this year and that isn't comparable to hoping for a 5 team parlay.
  13. It all depends on whether or not Cleveland enters the offseason with a 'Love will not come back' or 'We will trade Love if...' mindset. If they are selling for the best offer then it won't take another Big 3 type player. I can't see the Cavs trading him back to the Wolves though.
  14. Well north of 4.00? I am not sure where you got your numbers. Gibson had ERA's of 4.47 and 3.84 in his first two seasons and had shown improvement. Expecting a 4.00 ERA seems reasonable with some upside. Santana - from 2008-2015 he has had 6 out of 8 seasons with 4.00 ERA or better including the last 3. Expecting a 4.00 ERA seems reasonable although aging is a factor. Duffey had a 3.10 ERA last year. He of course wasn't this good but expecting 4.00 ERA is reasonable. Currently he has a 3.54 xFIP and a .358 BAPIP. Hughes is the only that had a career ERA well north of 4. He had shown signs of turning the corner in 2014 but he lost a little velocity and the ability to K anyone. That one was more of a hope. I am comfortable saying that Santana and Duffey should be decent pitchers next season. Gibson is iffy because he is dealing with an arm injury but if he is healthy then he should be decent. Hughes is going the Nolasco route unfortunately. I am not making an argument that it is a great rotation but they aren't this bad (Nolasco is...).
  15. I am not seeing how the Wolves/Bulls match up for Butler. Wiggins is way too much considering his age and low salary. Lavine and #5 probably isn't enough. It is funny though reading FB/forum comments about Butler. Butler is a near elite player. One interesting chemistry issue that was brought up by NBA Lockdown (ESPN podcast). Could Butler mess up Wiggins/Towns development? Kevin Love appears to be perfect for this team. I think that bridge has been burned though.
  16. This year is a prime example that you can't have enough starting pitching and you shouldn't be putting solid pitchers on waivers before the season even starts because Duffey/Berrios can't start the season in the rotation. I would love it if they were legitimately blocked by solid starters. Unfortunately every single starter has turned into a pumpkin. A pessimist could have predicted that 1 or 2 of the Santana, Hughes, Duffey or Gibson (not to mention Berrios in his limited time) would be absolutely dreadful. I would have felt very safe that as a group those 4 would be around a 4.00 ERA instead of 5.50. Next year you start out with something like this Santana Hughes Gibson Duffey Berrios And even with this you will need to have 2-3 starters in AA/AAA ready to go.
  17. It is more about projection imo. Polanco projects as a fine player but Kepler has far more potential offensively. I could see a very good argument for placing Polanco as high as #3 and Kepler at #2 though.
  18. Try applying these stats to Arcia. The argument isn't that Park is awesome but rather that he is hitting better than the other options at LF/RF/DH aside from Sano (on the DL). Unless of course you believe that the FO are geniuses for picking up Grossman for nothing and he will continue to hit.
  19. Park has been one of the few decent hitters on the team this year and should absolutely not be sent down. If you need to find room for Arcia then let it be at someone else's expense.
  20. This is what is missing from the Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Trevor mostly goes after soft targets that everyone knows about. I enjoy the Trump jokes or things that Trevor points out but they are mostly known. I actually learn about new topics when I watch Oliver.
  21. Are you saying that he is currently struggling? I think there is room for improvement but I wouldn't exactly call this struggling. Hughes is struggling Dozier is struggling Plouffe is struggling Rosario struggled Escobar is struggling Nolasco is struggling Jepsen is struggling May is struggling DSantana is struggling Suzuki is Suzuki Park could be better but he has a 109 wRC and on pace for close to 30 HR's while making the jump from SK to MLB. What was everyone expecting?
  22. I would certainly trade him for a really good prospect but he hasn't played enough to get anything significant back. I am a little frustrated that some are trying to make the team worse than it already is. I could see if Arcia was really hot and he couldn't even get playing time in the OF but he has been fairly awful this year (39% K rate - <.700 OPS).
  23. Park could be better and more consistent but there is no chance that I would take him out of the lineup other than an occasional day off. Out of all the problems that the Twins are having, Park isn't one of them. So far there isn't any data that says he should be platooned either.
  24. I know that it is easy to hate on Hughes and he has been extraordinarily awful but he lost 2mph on his fastball. He doesn't stand a chance as a soft tossing (<90 mph) pitcher and he is toast until he figures out where that velocity went. Perhaps though a move to the pen will bring it back. Just no more starts.
  25. Lack of other options with Nunez playing SS or not being an every day player. that is one possibility. I also don't know what they actually think of Sano but neither do you.
