  1. Somehow I think other GM's are aware of this. Hopefully the Twins someday have 3 other great OF'ers and Rosario can be a great 4th OF'er but right now they don't. Right now Rosario is going to have to play himself out of a job. Palka with 30 HR potential is certainly an intriguing possibility though.
  2. That is generous but shipping meat across borders will not make me any friends in the customs department. I have no doubt that you do this extremely well albeit with an occasional complete disaster during the learning process that dogs won't even eat.
  3. Now I guess I will have to be productive and actually do something with the day. It's already MONDAY here!
  4. I would like to be in your quality control team and sample all of this. I have no experience though.
  5. Trump is a modern day example of mob rule. As long as he maintains the favor of the alt right mob (and in general conservatives) then republicans can't touch him.
  6. I am still unable to see how this short term approach that the Tigers went after in 2005+ hurt them in any meaningful way. If the down years (the four non-playoff years '07 to '10 that you referred to) yield a 5 games over .500 mark then I think it is an AWESOME strategy. The tigers 10 years ago were making the same kind of trades and signing long term FA's to contracts that weren't going to finish well. It never hurt them like you have suggested.
  7. The point was more that a player like Deng is getting 18M in this FA market. Porter is almost a lock for the max. The Wolves definitely have room for a max contract (they had room this year or close to it) next year but you might have to pay it just to make Lavine the 6th man. That is how you considerably strengthen the team though. Add Lavine to the bench and it is a legit unit. He would also still be playing 25+ min/game so it isn't like his usage would drop. He just wouldn't officially be a starter anymore.
  8. Getting two of DeLeon, Bellinger or Alvarez is a great return. If this falls through because of a 3rd or 4th piece then this FO sucks.
  9. I missed about 25 pages of this thread due to an outstanding camping trip this weekend but if this trade was held up (and falls through) because they couldn't bring themselves to cut a couple of mediocre barely on the 40 man roster players then this FO sucks. If this trade was held up (and falls through) because they couldn't agree on the 3rd and 4th players when 2 of DeLeon, Bellinger or Alvarez were in the deal then this FO sucks. At least this thread made things fun for the site for awhile. Hopefully this doesn't end up like the Johan Santana trade when there were some really good possible trades from the Red Sox and yankees rumored during winter meetings but everything fizzled and they took the Mets deal because they were likely the only serious trade partner left.
  10. And everyday there was a new excuse about why it hadn't happened yet. Definitely more than the 3 days you said earlier. I think this will happen more or less as you described but I am thoroughly enjoying this thread. T minus 2 hours until the car is packed for a weekend camping trip. This better have happened by the time I get back home in 60 hours.
  11. I love it. This is just like the Mauer prediction. Yes, the rule 5 trades are what is holding up the Dozier deal. They literally had to drop everything that they were doing and only focus on Rule 5 for a day. Priceless.
  12. You keep writing one sentence (can't have long term success) and following with the complete opposite (I'm not arguing that they haven't been good). Surely you can see how this is frustrating?
  13. You have always limited the Tigers success to short term. It hasn't been short term. They have been ridiculously successful for the long term with all of those aging veterans. Even now they don't have hardly any long term contracts that are dragging the team down and somehow they still have several <30 core players.
  14. Luol Deng fit that mold last offseason and he got 4/72. The Wolves have the money available but they are going to need to go to offer the max (or almost the max) to get a guy like Porter. I think that is fine considering that Rubio and Dieng are the only players on long term contracts although a couple will be signing extensions in the next couple of seasons. Another way to look at it is that Bazz is one of the best players on the best and he is going to get at least 10M/yr in this market. I would definitely pay double+ to get a guy like Porter.
  15. We aren't actually seeing an example of this playing out. Nobody has considered Dave credible enough to start re-publishing this info. Nobody has made FB memes celebrating the trade. Nobody is referring to the trade in past tense as it has already happened. If anything this site has shown great resistance to blindly believing less than credible news.
  16. I am just enjoying this thread and how worked up people are getting about it. It kind of brings back memories of BYTO. That makes this thread awesome all by itself.
  17. You - they missed the playoffs 4 straight. I did not make a straw man. They have had long term success and you contend that they haven't. The problem is that you continue to ignore the main point that I made that you disagreed with. They did these moves for over a decade and people have been expecting them to become an aging mediocre team with overpaid contract for almost a decade. And yet they kept winning. The Red Sox very likely will also keep winning despite your concerns of getting stuck with a team of aging mediocre and overpaid players.
  18. THAT'S NOT HOW I REMEMBER IT! I REMEMBER DAYS OF AGONY WAITING FOR THE ACTUAL ANNOUNCEMENT! WHY AM I SHOUTING?
  19. The current task would be destroying the credibility of DW? Let's get on it. I think we waited a week+ for the Mauer extension to actually be announced. First it was the Twins wouldn't announce it on X day because other news, Y day because it was a holiday and Z day because of voodoo spirits. I am just kidding of course. ----> Dave is (sort of) awesome.
  20. So now you are trying to sell that the Tigers haven't been a VERY SUCCESSFUL team for the last ten years? They have 2 seasons <.500 and one year at .500 with 2 World Series appearances and they made the playoffs 6 times. That is pretty awesome for a team that 10 years ago people were saying was going to be old and mediocre in a couple of seasons.
  21. Vintage Dave - this place will never be boring. Everything seems like this should be a deal for both sides. It would be funny to go back in time to the first half of last season when Dozier was in a slump and read the perceptions of him. Getting two top 50 prospects at that time would have seemed preposterous.
  22. You continue to say that it is a short term strategy and that at some point you are stuck with an old, mediocre team of costly multi-year FA contracts. Every single post you write you describe it as a short term strategy. You weren't part of this discussion at BYTO (long before Twins Daily was around) but this is exactly what people were saying ten years ago about the Tigers during their AL Central runs. And they just kept winning and winning and winning.
  23. Yes, I did read it. Signing FA's was always part of Dombrowski's plan in Detroit and it will be part of the Red Sox plan. And yet you keep talking about this inevitable collapse that never happened in Detroit despite it being predicted for almost a decade. If the Red Sox are able to go a decade plus before this collapse that you are predicting then Dombrowski will be considered a great GM.
  24. If you don't care HOW they do it then why are you so adamant that Tyus Jones should be starting. That is precisely telling them how to do it.
  25. In fairness this plan has worked despite people being concerned about an expensive, mediocre team with a poor farm system for over a decade.
