  1. The Twins have made a two-year offer to Mike Pelfrey, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. However, there's still a gap in salary that needs to be bridged. Pelfrey returned from Tommy John surgery in 2012 to post a 5.19 ERA with 6.0 K/9, 3.1 BB/9 and a career-low 43.2 percent ground-ball rate in 152 2/3 innings. Pelfrey's FIP (3.99) and xFIP (4.54) both suggest that his ERA could have been lower were it not for a .337 BABIP and 67.2 percent strand rate. Why even bother? Pelfrey is not going to help in any way. The best thing to do when you are a garbage team is to obviously resign your own trash. PONY UP SOME MONEY AND SIGN SOMEONE GOOD!!!
  2. I don't believe for a second that Molina saved 50 runs. He may have technically framed 50 pitches for called strike threes, but in reality umpires have such a wide zone that 2/3 of them would probably have been called anyway.
  3. Coax DeRosa out of retirement and it sounds like a plan.
  4. Their replacement for Chen?
  5. Had anyone come to conclusions 11 days into FA last year I doubt their reaction would be any different than if they had done so on March 31.
  6. Oh so Johnson didn't have some strong desire to sign with the Twins because he was born here?
  7. This is true. But you can have a major injury on a one year contract too and then you don't get anything out of him. This is probably the wrong thread for the post because I wasn't specifically talking about Arroyo.
  8. Well Mays got a million times worse once Anderson came along from his all-star 2001 season and then it was really impossible to get much worse than what he was post 01.
  9. The issue with long term contracts (pitching in particular) is that they always look like overpays when they're signed but by the time the contract expires (barring major injury or falling off the table like Kevin Brown) they're in line with what lesser pitchers are signing for. The rise in salaries is just astonishing but shows no signs of ever slowing down. I say bring back the reserve clause and collusion all in one! That will put the Twins on an even playing field.
  10. I certainly wouldn't trust anything Twins' doctors told me. Rest and rehab followed by TJS whether I have an arm injury, a sprained ankle, or a headache.
  11. I see this as good news. Now he is less likely to be traded during the off-season. He wasn't going to land a difference maker on the mound anyway so I'd prefer to keep him.
  12. Just sign Tanaka. Even if he failed miserably I don't think any fans would be upset. I'm sick of scraping the bottom of the barrel or having an ultimate best case scenario of getting Arroyo or Nolasco.
  13. I would also add someone like A.J. (not that I'm advocating signing him as whipping these boys into shape is an impossible mission on a one year deal) that is an instigator and others hate playing against. Someone teammates would rally around. Gomez is growing into that type in Milwaukee. A personality like A.J., Puig, Nyjer Morgan. A younger version would be Gerardo Parra. Also a pitcher who is not afraid to dust someone (and has the velocity to make someone uneasy). I don't think it's a bad thing to have one loose cannon on your team. Someone like Aceves or Vicente Padilla. Note: I am not advocating acquiring any of these players- just personality types that preferably have some sort of skill. I just can not stand all of the robotic "Whoa, is me" types that we've had over the past four years. I really don't think it's coincidence that the 09 Twins turned it on shortly after getting Cabrera.
  14. I said it in a different thread- I'd rather watch the 2002 or 2006 Twins at their current age than the 2013 Twins at any age.
  15. The only thing that makes it a terrible trade is that SF got rid of A.J. after one season. Otherwise you have one of the more durable catchers in the league for 1.5 years of great SP and an excellent relief pitcher. There aren't too many relievers that wouldn't get traded for a starting catcher.
  16. I don't think anyone thought the Twins were going to outbid anyone and that's the problem. You are never going to be able to sign good players if you don't outbid everyone else.
  17. I don't see A.J. being happy playing for a last place team.
  18. It's nice that the Twins are willing to mix it up and go after a soft tosser. That will really fool opponents after seeing Correia and Diamond the previous two days.
  19. The Twins lack a vocal leader... but I guess that's to be assumed since they only target unemotional robots and yes men.
  20. I would rather watch the 2002 (or 2006 Twins) at their present age than the crap they've run out there the last three seasons. Bring on Johan!
  21. Rest and rehab always does the trick.
  22. His old man would probably be the ace of our staff right now.
