  1. It bothers me to no end that the so-called "Twins Classics" that FSN airs from time to time are from last season. I do not ever want to watch another game from that team EVER. Show something from 2001-2010 (I assume they wouldn't show anything from the MSC/WCCO days) please. I know they have those games archived. Seriously, I would make a point to watch if it was a meaningful game from one of our pennant races.
  2. Wrong Despaigne to go after. Get the outfielder!
  3. Aces barely pitch 200 innings in a season now. Correia hasn't done it (came close in 2009). He may very well be better than Blackburn, but not by much. I think it's very fair to lump him in with Blackburn and Diamond.
  4. Which by definition should mean "Not solid whatsoever".
  5. Wally the Beerman The cotton candy dude that should have been an NFL quarterback due to his precision passing from twenty rows away.
  6. I wish the Twins site had kept their most memorable Dome moments countdown that listed 100 moments.
  7. The thing I like most about this is that we are promoting from within, giving this team some much needed stability and proving you don't need recent on-field success to get promoted.
  8. I'd be surprised if we don't see him at Target Field as well... and that's what concerns me. The Twins have shown they are not opposed to running out complete crap game after game.
  9. I just don't see upside in Nolasco (although I applaud the Twins for making an effort and signing a pitcher to a big contract), Hughes, Pelfrey, or Gilmartin. They stuck with Diamond 24 starts too long.
  10. Good pitching is at a premium. I couldn't care less if that fifth, sixth, seventh starter is Diamond, Gilmartin, Johnson, etc. They're all the same guy. As an explanation I don't hate the trade (even though it likely appears that way). I just find it pointless and yes, I'd rather have Doumit.
  11. I've mentioned my hatred of WAR many times. Blackburn was somehow a positive WAR player in 2010 also despite his 5.42 ERA and terrible peripherals across the board. The scary thing about pitchers like this are that one fluke season can fool the Twins brass into thinking they are viable pitchers and then we are stuck watching them for another three years while there are better candidates.
  12. While Doumit had very little value to the Twins because he is so similar to a half dozen other players we have, Gilmartin has that same little value because he is so similar to a half dozen other players we have. Basically it's just cutting salary which doesn't get me excited as a fan.
  13. I haven't looked at his stats since being drafted but it's funny because Gilmartin was my prediction (along with many others) to be the Twins draft choice prior to the 2011 draft. And now looking at his stats it's obvious he fits everything that the Twins look for in a pitcher. More hits than IP? Check. Few BB? Check. Mediocre K rate? Check. Fastball velocity under 95? Check. Why even bother? If he's anything more than Nick Blackburn (or Scott Diamond since they're both lefties and from the Braves organization) I'll be shocked. I realize Doumit has no value but he is a carbon copy of 99 percent of the pitchers in this organization.
  14. Sign a real starting pitcher, not average pitchers.
  15. Hopefully it is Pelfrey that gets DFA'ed...
  16. I don't even think Nolasco is that wonderful. Sure, he's a step above what we're used to but that isn't good enough to win. The money is getting thrown around but all I'm seeing are the same type of pitchers.
  17. I agree- Fantasyland is an excellent book. I think Sam Walker may have been code for Terry Ryan though. During the initial draft he throws out Ponson for an absurd amount of money and no one else bites.
  18. Nothing is no risk. The risk is we trot him out there for 150 games and he has a season like he had last year.
  19. Don't pitch him when the wind is blowing out. If he's an April and September pitcher he might be marginal.
  20. The Twins have increased the value of their two-year offer to Mike Pelfrey from $10MM to $12MM, La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. The Rangers and Giants have also shown interest in Pelfrey, Neal reports. Also from Neal, the stumbling block between Matt Garza and the Twins seems to be Garza's demands for a four- or five-year contract, as Minnesota isn't willing to make that long a commitment due to injury concerns. That said, Neal isn't counting the Twins out of the Garza race yet as he hears the team is still in the hunt.
  21. I had WGN on for some reason and just heard that Coomer is expected to be named the new Cubs radio analyst. If this is true- congratulations are in order. I wonder if FSN will replace him or just have Laudner, Smalley on more often.
  22. Players should also only be out if they get Dibbled.
  23. Yes, everything in Game 7 is more exciting due to the context. A pop up to Pagliarulo had us all holding our breath. That wouldn't happen on June 4th. I love collisions. The bang-bang nature of the play combined with a brutal hit makes it exciting for me. If we are going to eliminate anything that could cause an injury, please eliminate throwing, sliding, running, swinging. Most of the concussions that take place are on foul tips not collisions at home plate.
