  1. There is an obvious reason- to try and knock the ball away so you can score. Torii was on mlbn having a near meltdown about it (of course we all remember him leveling Burke). I absolutely hate the pussification of football and I hate how it's trending that way in baseball too.
  2. Not surprising that they would take away the most exciting play in the sport. Way to try and be like the NFL.
  3. This is a very good one too. That really set the tone for that season. Also my most enjoyable season of the past 20 years.
  4. The home run off Mussina in Yankee Stadium after his father had passed away and his home run in 2005 off Garcia when he had a no hitter going and we won 1-0 on one hit. Least favorite moments- his "throw" in that same game which was a lob to LeCroy when he may have had a chance to get Jeter out at home and any at bat against Buehrle.
  5. Halladay was my favorite pitcher of the past dozen years and it was painful watching him struggle the past year and a half. I am glad he's retiring. I want to remember him as an ace and not the pitcher he became due to injuries. There is nothing better than a legitimate workhorse in baseball and he was the definition of that.
  6. Sounds an awful lot like my boss....
  7. He uses Twitter and has a mind of his own. Far too controversial. We just want robots.
  8. I don't believe this at all. It takes less pitches to strike someone out than it does to give up a single and then get a ground out. More often than not our pitchers are not guys that don't walk anyone AND don't give up hits.
  9. Someone mentioned on mlbn that Seattle spent 240 million on Cano when it would have only taken 350 million to keep the Sonics in Seattle.
  10. I take it back. THIS is the worst contract I've ever seen. .860 career ops is worth 24 million a year now? For ten years? For a 31 year old? If the Twins made this signing I would be irate.
  11. I disagree. 20 million is a low enough figure that essentially every team can offer that for the posting fee, which in turn allows the player to negotiate with any team that matched that offer. This just turns him into a typical FA which is most likely to go to NYY, LA, etc like any of the other worthwhile FA. I think it actually hurts small market teams, who might have been able to sneak through a surprise bid every now and again in the old system.
  12. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/jacoby-ellsbury-agrees-to-7-year----153-million-deal-with-yankees-020323816.html
  13. Beane is not a genius by any means. He has already traded away Carlos Gonzalez and Huston Street for 1/2 season of Holliday, Holliday for nothing, he traded Brosius for Kenny Rogers, Bellhorn for nothing, Nelson Cruz for Keith Ginter, Hudson for nothing, Ethier for Milton Bradley, Bradley a year later for nothing, Scutaro for nothing, selected Encarnacion off waivers and then granted him FA three weeks later without ever playing a game, Ziegler for nothing. While he has at some point scammed teams into receiving some of these players it never pays off because he turns around and deals them before they reach their potential.
  14. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/acquire-closer-jim-johnson-os-051106837--mlb.html Apparently Beane has decided to go against his own rule of not trading for proven closers.
  15. I do like that baseball reference's similar pitchers include: Rick Reed, Joe Blanton, Joe Saunders, and Gil Meche.
  16. Now get Garza. He is the only starter (aside from Tanaka) that I wanted out of this FA class, but I'm pleasantly surprised that Ryan did something through FA to improve our team. Hopefully a sign of things to come.
  17. I'm far too frustrated with everything Twins related at the moment to think or write rationally. I'll give it a shot again tomorrow.
  18. I don't particularly care for Kahn but is he really any worse than McHale? Would it change your opinion if I mentioned that I believe you would probably be a more successful GM? Your blueprint is far better than anything the Twins have done over the past 20 years. Even if they only partially did what you suggest it would be a success of an off-season.
  19. Yes, if Bailey would agree to an extension I would absolutely love to acquire him.
  20. Life is all about opportunity. I don't think it's impossible that some people that have no baseball related job could do a better job than him.
  21. It is infuriating because it's not improving the team. At best they will remain the exact same. It would be one thing if we were entertaining resigning someone like David Price, but Pelfrey just doesn't help this team in any significant way.
  22. I would bet a good deal of posters here could do the job better. Unfortunately not one of us will ever get that chance.
  23. 1. Biggio 2. Bonds 3. Clemens 4. Glavine 5. Maddux 6. Martinez 7. Piazza 8. Schilling 9. Thomas
  24. If they signed Garza AND a bat... it depends who that bat is. I just have absolutely zero faith that Ryan can or will fix this mess. He essentially puts together a team in the exact opposite way I would and I like about one out of ten of his moves.
