  1. I'm still convinced that this was the pitch Ryan used to get Smith fired and take back his job.
  2. I find it odd that this guy didn't get a major league contract somewhere.
  3. It is? I don't remember anyone talking much about baseball in there.
  4. What's not to get?
  5. I thought I read that the Rays are obligated to play at Tropicana until 2027.
  6. To me, there is a third factor. Horrible, horrible position players all over the field. Mauer and Morneau alone did not cause the team to go from giving 10% of their plate appearances to <650 OPS hitters in 2010 to 39% in 2011. Their return in 2011 only brought that number down to 21%.
  7. I'd take a page from the Brits, I'll give it a U for ungraded. They did nothing to significantly improve the roster that was awful entering the offseason. A team that had few quality major leaguers traded one away and may have gotten one in return. My interest level, and I'd imagine the interest level of most people who the Twins would consider their fans, is about zero for the upcoming season. They have quickly become the worst and least interesting sports entity in the area. They've tried nothing and they're all out of ideas.
  8. Does Liriano play for the Twins?
  9. They clearly had a choice. They certainly had a chance to beat Seattle at home without Griffin, especially considering the fact that he was awful for most of that game.
  10. If there were a hell, I don't know that faking a human interest story would rate that highly.
  11. Longevity plays a big part here, otherwise the worst player will be a Jim Hoey or Seth Greisinger type. I would nominate Rondell White, who out up a .620 OPS as a DH.
  12. Hows about the million dollar major league GM finds someone to help the team win that a bunch of schlubs on a message board with no resources can't?
  13. Biggio is the only non-steroid tainted player who was up that merits consideration.
  14. There's nothing quite as exhilarating as a fan than reading that your team aspires to be a middle of the pack team on a major branch of player evaluation.
  15. That's nonsense. If one of the components were the important part, you wouldn't have the other component.
  16. Can identify the massive pool of good starting pitching that signed with good teams that would make this statement actually aid the argument you seem to be making, rather than contradict it?
  17. He's not actually any better than either, he just hasn't had his second opportunity to prove it like those two did.
  18. I never said he has a "good" arm. I said he has enough arm to play in the NFL. MLB teams don't draft pitchers that can't touch 85 MPH on their fastball high in the draft, and NFL teams don't draft quarterbacks who can't throw a ball 50 yards in the air at all.
  19. Is that the stated goal of this award, to "top" it?
  20. That doesn't make any sense. His arm would be stronger if he had more confidence? The underthrown balls I have seen this year have been the result of poor decisions where he couldn't or didn't set his feet. You will not see a quarterback drafted in the first six rounds of the NFL draft who could not physically throw the ball that distance. Ponder doesn't have Jay Cutler's arm...he also doesn't have Ken Dorsey's. If he is accurate and can conquer the mental part of the game, by miles to two most important aspects of playing quarterback, his arm strength is not an issue. He's certainly far from achieving those two goals, however.
  21. Why? He wouldn't have been drafted in the first round if he couldn't throw the ball 50 yards in the air.
  22. I would feel uncomfortable with a **** like Torii Hunter in my locker room.
  23. That's all well and good, but he has 1,270 right now. 2,000 is another four very good seasons away.
  24. I think Elway should get whatever their executive of the year award is, but I'd find it hard to believe they would award Fox when it's pretty obvious that Manning is the reason they are whatever they are. I know he's not on my list. Shanahan has a lot more control over personnel, and they've molded their offense around Griffin, whereas Manning molds the offense around himself. If you've got two division winners with rookie quarterbacks, I don't know how you snub both of them for the guy who was handed the greatest player in NFL history who does a lot of the work for him.
