  1. On the contrary, if your hole is DH you are in a good spot. Easiest spot to fill. Course, it kinda requires production at the other spots which is a much bigger issue than who gets the DH ABs.
  2. No DH is the last problem to solve around here. Hiring a DH only player would be a tough fit, although if Goldy was just a DH he could probably be pretty decent for one more season. No fit.
  3. This is the answer. The comparison to real estate is very accurate. Far to many people focus on easy to change things like paint color or an outdated kitchen rather than the stuff that can't be changed or would be very difficult. What can and can't be fixed easily is in those ledgers. We are all in pretty basic agreement that marketing and therefore revenue conversion is an issue. Fairly easy to fix but what is the actual price and return once fixed? This isn't a dilapidated rip it to the studs rehab, it's much more of an A class property that's been slightly mismanaged. There is upside, but probably less than some others and it has to be done carefully. I don't really care about your books if I'm rebuilding the whole thing, its all about my projections. If I'm trying to improve around the edges, I gotta know what I'm working with. Of course, we'd all love an owner that didn't care about such things because the Twins are a rounding error on their balance sheet. In that case, none of these things matter.
  4. They don't know anything exactly. Everyone has a decent idea. The whole game is to not give exact information. Everyone did know the Pohlads situation and it had to have been an issue in negotiations. The only person that knows if Steve Cohen is going to fancy something is Steve Cohen. Steve Cohen does not talk payroll.
  5. I think we have seen that in the last two years. If the rest of the league knows my restrictions, they own me. I would be happy to explain that to a fanbase. Doing otherwise is to box myself into a corner and rabbit punch myself. Always keep em guessing.
  6. I would make it very clear from the very first press conference that I, and anyone in my organization, does not talk payroll. Sorry Aaron, it’s none of your business. Thanks to guys like Aaron, I have to take that piece off the board. And yes, I would have to fire a leaker or two. We are going to prepare to play a 180 high level games a year, every year. I want to hear it when we are successful and I want to hear it louder when we fail. But we do not talk payroll. We are going to solve for 180 games. Then I would sign Anthony Santander who I believe can play first base at a high level as well as corner outfield and switch mash. Perfect Swiss Army knife for this roster. (So long as it works for Falvey, I’m not a meddler.) Sign one solid guy though. Then I would send interns and the winter caravan all over the Dakotas and rural Minnesota. We might be out there for two months.
  7. 6. Sold to the right group at the end. Grade TBD. If you have a one dimensional view of a complicated 40 year period of which you have minimal details, you are the problem. I think @bean5302 summed it up pretty well. I give them a lot of credit for things like taking care of everyone during COVID but to be able to do this they have to be responsible with other expenses in the first place. It's quite obvious liquidity was always an issue and that's tough to manage. It's complicated, but on the whole it certainly could be worse. If they sell well, to someone that can go to the next level, they will be looked upon pretty well overall after some time passes.
  8. I did a similar search and found mostly Cargil folks, all much richer than anyone else in the state. Do they like baseball?
  9. I don't recall enjoying that experience much. As many have said, careful what you wish for. 🤣
  10. Not following the T-Wolves at all, what would make them a good pair? A-Rod would be way, way down the list of people I'd be interested in being involved.
  11. Levine absolutely knew. It makes sense that starting over with a new owner and the transition stuff would be less appealing to him. I would say DSP, Falvey, Levine and other relevant SVPs have known for quite a while. What I think people are underestimating is how far down the road this discussion is to be announced publicly. This isn't a posting on LoopNet. This makes all the budget talk make sense, they can't do that without the core knowing. It also illustrates how little reporters know, "insiders" only know what they are told. Every organization keeps the real stuff quiet when they need to.
  12. Horses! I'm most excited that people will have to figure out something else they don't understand to complain about.
  13. I didn't say what they care about, I have no way to know. As for the new buyer, I'm reminded of this brilliant philosopher poet.
  14. I'd venture a guess there is already a buyer on the hook. Their legacy will be heavily dependent on who they pass the team too. Of all the things we think they have done wrong (which should be reconsidered in light of this news) this is the one thing they have to get right. If we wanted them to treat the team as a community asset, selling to a good candidate rather than the highest dollar is the way to do it.
  15. Not helpful. They are absolutely an overall positive for this organization.
  16. This is 100% correct. It’s not really a lawyer question but a mindset. Millionaires work really hard to sign good contracts. Billionaires sign contracts they know they are going to renegotiate.
  17. For everyone railing on them the last two years, blah blah blah can't afford it just sell it. The last two years were that process. The books are in order now. Right sized if you will.
  18. Tis the silly season. Good reminder to be away from this place for awhile.
  19. Everything I can find says the Padres didn't really have a service disruption when Bally's spit the bit. Their 40k feels like mostly luxury subscribers as it was still available on cable. If so, that would bode well for a market that's struggling with basic availability. It doesn't seem like a real comp. I think an underrated part of this whole thing is it's on my phone now rather than tied to a TV. Many subscribers available just for that convenience.
  20. Was going to say performance to expectations but this is the same thing. They have shown they can do all the right things, just do it consistently.
  21. Those one-tap bars might be key to unlocking a lot of those areas. I lived in central Illinois when YouTubeTV was getting going. I was an early adopter being very sick of DirecTV. Then Comcast or someone had a dispute with rights and suddenly the Cards and Bears weren't on TV anymore. I would just put it on my phone at the bar after golf league and probably signed up 30 folks for YoutubeTV just from people gasping "how are you watching that?" If I were the Twins, I'd put about 5 interns on the road all winter, just going to these bars and giving the first year free. Gotta hang a few signs but you can have 150+ games free. First, people come to the bar to watch or notice its on a few times then they realize its just 100 bucks. So many households had no option in the past. Get the word out.
  22. It will be very interesting to see how many subscribers they pick up. It's quite a different situation as the Padres in that there was no disruption in Padres coverage so a much smaller part of a smaller target group was even forced to look for a streaming option. Twins fans have been wanting something like this for years. The more I think about it, 40k would be a huge disappointment.
  23. I'll try to remember to check back next year at this time to find out which month you signed up.
