  1. I disliked Swisher when he was playing for the Sux and disliked him even more after what he did to Nishioka a couple seasons ago. Hope that at least one Twins' pitcher has it in him to pay him back, and with him in the division now, there will be chances.
  2. They released a few more the last 3 weeks. Here is the complete list: RHP Ricky Bowen, 1B Joshua Hendricks, RHP Steve Hirschfeld, LHP Clint Dempster, LHP Corey Kimes, 3B Jacob Younis, OF Wang-Wei Lin The depth in OF in the minors and all of the sudden pitching cost those guys. The 2 Aussies (Hendricks and Younis) just couldn't hit. (Lin too...)
  3. This thing about Plouffe and his "bad defensive issues" in a season when he hit 24 HRs (which, to remind you, is more than ANY Twins hitter hit in 2011 and any RHB hit in 2010; Thome hit 25 then) is ridiculous, especially coming from the same powers of being who were trotting Brian Butcher out there when the Twins were "Competing". Those are the facts and read what you want into them.
  4. What should be added in the original statement is that using their strategy the Marlins won 2 World Championships since the Twins won their last. So, at least their way has been more effective that the Twins' way. Fact.
  5. Cool. If it is "so easy", please verify by listing the other offers that Correia had. (not that "easy")
  6. Same time the Cubs will announce the A. Sanchez signing and the Haren and cash for Marmol trade. "Done deals" get undone some times. Mea Culpa. Move on...
  7. I did a bit of research on Harden's injury history, and you can find a complete history of his injuries (at least in the MLB) here. His first R shoulder problems started in 2004 and he had already missed 88 days because of his shoulder before the 2007 situation. He had a total of 22 injuries and lost more than 758 days in his career. What concerns me the most about his history is that he has been diagnosed with a UCL "sprain" in 2006, which made him lose 108 days (of RnR). His shoulder has given up before his elbow each season after, so if the surgery (capsule btw, not labrum) fixed his chronic shoulder condition, the elbow might go a la Joel Zumaya. Hope the best. This can be a really great signing if he is healthy.
  8. Good stuff Good to see Burris where you have him. I think that you are probably undervaluing Gibson and May. Based on what I've heard Gibson c. 2012 >> Gibson c. 2010, which will make my ST trip fun this season. I have seen May pitch at Reading in a few occasions and he is the real deal. Getting excited about what the Twins rotation can look like in a couple seasons
  9. Nope. Time for the Twins to embrace the youth movement. What the Correia disaster of a signing accomplished is that at most 2 from Gibson/Hendriks/Meyer/May/Wimmers/Hermson/Whateverprospect group will be in the Twins rotation in 2013 and 2014. You don't want to make that number half of that.
  10. Torii? The Twins don't need another outfielder (and old and who broke some bridges when he left) Now, if the Mets are willing to eat half of Johan's contract for 2013 (his last season), it is a different story...
  11. Excuse me? When? World Series? Only once the TR teams moved to the ALCS and then that team lost. In his time as a GM he built teams that were winning AL Central championships often and then bowed out in the post-season in the 2000s and teams that were in the basement in the 90s and 2010s so far.
  12. Too early to tell. I would bet on BJ Hermsen being in AAA too. At least one or maybe more of these guys will probably be with the big team. Waldrop would probably have a spot in AAA pen. Who knows.
  13. Disagree with the wording.....Deduno didnt pay off. Team was so bad that they kept having to go to minors & he got a huge opportunity that he didnt do enough with to even warrant a 40 man spot. He basically proved why he's not a major league pitcher. Ummm... OK, I guess... I guess if a minor league free agent signing makes 15 or so starts for the big league club, I would consider that a pretty strong minor league signing. He made those starts in a 96-loss team. Would have he started any games for Detroit/WSux/Rangers/As/Rays/Yankees or any other teams with a winning record? No. The fact that the Twins were miserable last season and their pitching was so messed up that they had to give starts to Deduno/Vasquez/Walters and the like, speaks more about the Twins' situation than how successful Deduno's signing was. If one expects and applauds mediocrity (or worse), this is all one will get. Ryan had 3 successful signings last season (Willingham, Burton and Doumit, and he decreased the success of the later by keeping Butera in the bigs). All the others were either horrible (Marquis, Capps), mediocre (Carroll) or a bunch of minor leagues who happened to come up because the Twins had no better choices. If Ryan signed better players, instead of the likes of Marquis and the AAAA circus, the Twins would have had a better record because better players than Deduno would have gotten the ball every 5 days.
  14. Butera should back up Herrmann in Rochester. Another ridiculous signing (similar to signing Roof's kid last season) that makes no sense at all, unless the Twins are getting rid of Butera. And then, there are better in house options..
  15. So how hard does he throw? Kinda odd to say a guy throws hard and no mention of upper 90's or anything. Throws hard by Twins standards means he can reach low 90's and that is not much to speak of. 98 ish fastball 88-90 slider
  16. Here is the thing (more than one actually) : a. He throws hard. He is wild. The Twins have had a few of those the last few seasons who they let go (Hoey, Morillo). Not that different than those 2. He is 30/1 (older than the aforementioned, btw) b. if he will get a ST invite ahead of Anthony Slama and Kyle Waldrop I will be p1$$3D
  17. Robbie was pretty irrelevant, I'd rather see more of Laudner and Smalley and Coomer and other former Twins doing his job. At least they get baseball.
  18. well... I got 2 words about that statement. (and it hurts) : Gary Anderson
  19. ok. Any evidence to suggest that NL pitchers can be as successful in the AL? I can throw over a slew for the other way. Mater of fact, when I am trying to evaluate NL performance for SPs and try to translate it to AL performance, I start with a factor of about 1.2 for most metrics...
  20. Yeah I was thinking about that too... He better be there on a MiLB contract in ST after all the guaranteed $ Ryan paid him last season to blow his arm off...
  21. I'd rather see Webb in ST than the likes of Marquis/Livan/Ponson/Ortiz etc
  22. The question is pricetag. Span, with his concussions, could easily be a disaster with a much higher price tag. If you want to toss a lower offer and get Bourjos you might buy low and get a steal. If you want to pick a different term than roleplayer, go ahead. But he's not a star or centerpiece player. He can be a valuable piece, but slow your roll with him. Totally agree about Span's issues, plus one needs to add the lapses in concentration at the plate and on the bases. You got to sell high on the guy. Still cannot believe that there are Twins' fans who value Span (and his age and his contract) more than Revere (and his age and his contract).... He has to go.
  23. The Twins cannot trade for Dickey without firing GardynAndy. That simple. Same reason that they will not go after Lohse or Garza or anyone else the duo let go.
  24. Well,,, LEN3 is not a Twins' fan either, but that does not make him not report the Twins' objectively (at least what he is accessing as a beat writer; lots of that is what the club officially says.) Law (like lots of scouts) tend to form opinions with very small sample sizes, which is not that great. You see a guy playing a couple days in a row only and he is fighting a cold or something those days, you just cannot form a valid opinion. You got to follow someone a whole season (at least) to form a valid opinion and, as far as prospects go, they grow and they improve. That is part of the game as well..
  25. Good luck. Maybe 3/40. Maybe. More like 3/30-35
