  1. Do we know whether Deduno accepted the assignment yet? He could pull a Walters (who denied the assignment, became a FA and was re-signed at a MiLB contract with a ST invite by the Twins...). If they outrighted him today, he has a couple days to do that...
  2. Josh Roenicke is Ron Roenicke's nephew. The Brewers already have Ron's son in their system (sounds familiar?) so maybe the Twins can work a trade out for the nephew...
  3. Baltimore is going to have the 2010 Twins' DP combo next season... Tommy Field is more like Nick Punto than Pedro Florimon. Generously listed at 5'8". I just do not understand these 2 waiver picks since they do take space and they are not any better than anything the Twins' have. Roenicke has a Reds' connection so maybe that was part of it (Krivsky)
  4. I like Feldman a lot from the bunch. Other than W-L and ERA his numbers were better than average (and he did that with a .339 BABIP against RHB and a total .318 BABIP). And he is in his prime. He will be an improvement over pretty much everyone the Twins trotted out last season including Diamond (his FIP was lower than Diamond's and he had better peripherals.) A multi year deal to an older pitcher (like they did with Pavano in the past) will not be much of a solution, unless that pitcher is a bona fide number 2 or better and none of those guys is...
  5. Hope that they are looking at him for Rochester... I am not sure how they think he might be better than DeVries/Deduno/Hendricks/Walters etc at this point. He was a very mediocre RP in the majors (and minors; even though he started a bit in the minors) here
  6. Nick Not sure about the timing of Baker's quote. When was it reported? And Baker might not have incentives to make such statement but the ones who sign him may like it to make it seem that it was tough.. Not sure what is the story there...
  7. Thanks. As far as the deal goes, I still stand by it. It is done. I would suggest to wait until Baker "signs elsewhere" to call this busted.... Teams take time to announce things (esp. the Twins.) I will give you a recent example from about a year ago: I found out that the Twins agreed with Willingham about a week before it was "made official" last off-season. I tweeted that. Same source with this, btw... Lots of deniers then (because they all loved their "Cuddy"), lots of deniers now. We shall see.
  8. Thanks. Messes will go away soon. At least we did not lose any people around here. Just trees and first world taken-for-granded things. Those things will come back...
  9. Thanks for the concern I am alright (as John B said). Not much more than a phone these days (charged by my car charger) to connect to the 'net. Lehigh Valley kinda mess these days and have been working with folks and chainsaws to clear roads and stuff. Not too much water like NJ and NY and DE, but lots of trees and power lines down and the such and lots of folks who need help. So that's why I have not responded at this. Now I got a WiFi connection nearby, so here we go. I still stand by the original post. Did not find more details (hey, got other priorities right now, sorry) but I do stand by it. Baker is a Twin with a 3 year total contact including incentives and options (and I do not know how many incentives and/or options). We will find out the details soon.
  10. as always, hard to deal with those lists... And really if you look you have Buxton who has proven nothing and Gibson who has proven something (and even more in the AFL) vs Hicks who by any means I can count is "it" and Hermsen who just deserves it. Hard to argue with this list on the top other than I love Buxton's and Kepler's potential but I do have to see more...
  11. other than this, I don't know but it is a fact... I tried citing myself when I wrote a paper once. It turns out that I would have been better off citing Wikipedia (which currently has the Twins declining his option, but not ruling out his return). The previous poster asked about a tweet when he should have asked about the source. thrylos responded with the only tweet (his own) that he knows about. For now all we have to go on is that thrylos inside source is accurate. That tweet thing was a joke (just because he/she asked for it) Let me put it this way: I know that Baker is signed as much as I knew that Willingham was a Twin and Cuddyer was gone and that Jon Rauch was a Twin at the deadline few years ago...
  12. other than this, I don't know but it is a fact...
  13. Still trying to find out the details (while trying to figure out the hurricane issue here and the stuff that comes with it, too) But it looks like this: 3 year deal with option(s) and incentives. Not certain about the total value (heard a couple of things). Will be announced after the World Series is done. So that is that. And you will hear the details from the access folks soon (Giants' helping) If my electric holds Sandy, I might add more. Just wanted you all to know. (and I do not mind this move)
  14. +1 These days Marcum might be a good #3-4 pitcher. Had only one season in the AL with an xFIP under 4. This is Diamond territory. A completely laughable misuse of stats. xFIP is far from a perfect stat. He has shown over his career (900+ innings) that he can beat xFIP by 0.37 pts. That's a pretty significant adjustment. Some pitchers can do this and some cannot. How easily you dismiss NL innings is ridiculous. He's put up a 3.60 ERA over his last 700 innings which were equally split between the AL (East) and the NL. That's definitely not a true #1 but that's far better than I would predict for Diamond next season. so xFIP is a flawed "stat" and ERA is not? alrighty....
  15. +1 These days Marcum might be a good #3-4 pitcher. Had only one season in the AL with an xFIP under 4. This is Diamond territory.
  16. ok just some perspective here. in 2012 Justin Morneau hit: .267/.333/.440, 19 HR, 77 RBI for the Twins making $14MM and Delmon Young hit: .267/.296/.411, 18 HR, 74 RBI for the Tigers not that much different. (speaking of selling low...)
  17. Indeed that guy does not exist. And... the status quo lost 95+ games the last 2 seasons. Got to change something, don't you think?
  18. This is why the Twins are bad now but I think some have too high of expectations of player development. It's pretty common for teams to have several seasons of the draft not produce much. I think the FO noticed this started getting more aggressive internationally which has resulted in some pretty good prospects in the Twins system. which is why they wiated for the salary cap of 2.9 million before they signed any this last june....codo Hold it. They really had to outbid at least a couple of clubs to get Sano and they paid him big time. And, for all Smith's shortfalls that have been exposed here and there, unfortunately nobody mentions that he is the one who re-turned the franchise into the latin american market big time. And this franchise has historically been a leader there from the 1910s till right about the Bay of Pigs era when they moved to Minny. Last important Latin American signee from that time was Tony O. Before Smith doing what he did signing Sano (about 50 years later - to put things into perspective,) the Twins were just non-players. Back in the day every Cuban wanted to come and play for the Senators (and Griffith's uncle/dad Clark) because they knew they will get a fair deal.
  19. This is really a 3-head beast: - someone(s) wanted a "proven closer" - someone(s) thought that Butera was ok as a Ramos alternative - someone(s) valued Capps' performance in 2011 to bring him back in 2012 for at least twice street value of what is worth and forfeit a pick... so... blame them.
  20. Agreed up to a point. The Twins have to get a young starting pitcher with upside in return for Morneau, even if they have to package an OF prospect. And they have to get a SP for Span and they have to sign a decent FA SP. They are not just one free agent away...
  21. Interesting to see that Baker and Pavano are still on the roster. I think they should move ahead with Baker and they should not in any way with Pavano. Having Pavano in the roster and losing Gutierrez does not make much sense. Interesting also to see the team keep 4 Cs on the 40-man. I just don't see any reason for keeping Butera there. They do. Guess they value him more than a former first round pick who is a prospect
  22. I think that it is thin in quality not quantity. And the Twins in order to be competitive need at least 3 pitchers better than Diamond. How many of them are available as Free Agents. Heck, how many of the free agents available are better than a fixed Baker? So, yeah... pretty thin in quality. The trade marker on the other hand is a different story.
  23. Now we know the reason for both the Paul Molitor and the Glen Glynn snubs: they never coached high school ball at Wayzeta
  24. Good luck... Unless they trade him. He is out of options. And might even be super 2 arbitration eligible...
