  1. The definition of small sample size and poster boy for the reason that WAR is not a stat that should be used to describe everything... Lots of defensive metrics out there and some contradict each other. I'd love to see what James' plus/minus says on Nunez because he made 50 plays out of zone last year as well, which might off-set some of the UZR stuff...
  2. This could have been true, if the Twins had not added Nunez on the 40 man roster
  3. Nunez has a career .692 OPS in the majors playing in the AL East. This might be a tad misleading because in both 2012 and 2013 he was fighting injuries and had a pretty long rehab. In 2010 in AA Eastern League he had a .782 OPS and in 2011 in AAA International League a .721 OPS. I know you are high on Beresford but his career AA OPS is .668 and AAA OPS is .712, in the same leagues. The AAA numbers are close but the AA not that close. I don't think that Beresford might be more than a .600-.650 OPS guy in the majors (Florimon level)
  4. I cannot imagine any universe in which there is any way to defend Ryan's decision to keep LeCroy over Ortiz.
  5. The last couple of seasons the Twins have been more aggressive in both promoting and cutting players. I suspect that the change in Minor League Director had something to do with this.
  6. Miguel Sulbaran
  7. That is slightly overstated, especially for the team that fielded Mike Lamb and Brian Buscher at 3B, Nishioka at SS and 2B and Brendan Harris and Trevor Plouffe at shortstop among others... Actually (other than in SS) he is better than the aforementioned...
  8. Interesting thought and it might be that case. But, in a month from now, who do you think will have better numbers overall: Solarte or Florimon? just sayin'
  9. Or, finally someone has seen enough of Bartlett to cut the cord... Herrmann played first base for the first time in his career at Rochester today...
  10. Signing Drew at this point might make sense only if one thinks that the Twins are close to be contending and Drew will push them over the top. Drew will not sign a long term contract, just a single year. Otherwise, it is a lose-lose situation (Spend $ and don't make the post-season and lose a draft pick.) I'd rather see what Escobar and Danny Santana (in that order) can do at this point...
  11. I think that the Twins will keep Bartlett around for a week or so and then, if he does not improve with the stick, will cut him loose. With both Arcia and Willingham day to day and potentially out, I would not be surprised if there is a move in the works to get another OF to MN. And if that happens Bartlett is toast, because none of the Redwings OF (and I am not talking about Rahl, he will not be the one up; one of Ramirez, Mastroianni and Parmelee is) are out of options. Unless they think out of the box and pull a good one and get the only Outfielder on the 40 man roster with options up North while Arcia and/or Willingham are mending. He is better fielder than Bartlett at this point and his bat might even play better in the majors than Bartlett's these days. But that might be too much out of the box thinking for them. For me Florimon is a bigger issue at this point and he needs to sit for Escobar for a while...
  12. Hough pitched 858 games Before he was a starter with the Rangers he was the Dodgers closer and closers then pitched 2-3 innings. And as a starter in the 80s he was among the league leaders in IP and CGs (the knuckleball helps) and the Rangers were a club that can turn a game either way really fast
  13. Free Eduardo Escobar
  14. Not really. TK won 2 world series when he had good talent. Gardy went 1 and out in his post-seasons with good talented teams, including one that had both the MVP and Cy Young award winners.
  15. No and No. a. He will not play every day at AAA. He will likely play 3/5 of the days. And he will likely end up playing 3/5 of the Twins' games by the end of the season b. If he does not catch MLB pitchers, he will not learn to catch MLB pitchers and call an MLB game. Lots of junk throwers at AAA and it is easy to put down the deuce as a catcher...
  16. Congrats for the milestone. But wins mentioned by themselves only can be misleading. Charlie Hough has only 3 less wins (216) than Pedro Martinez (219.) Hough also lost 216 games, while Martinez lost 100. If you avoid the last sentence someone who does not know those pitchers would think that they are about equal. Gardy has career 950 losses as well. He will likely reach the 1000 loss milestone this season too. So more like Hough than Pedro...
  17. -2014 Breakout Player: Jorge Polanco -2014 Comeback Player of the Year: Nate Roberts / Deolis Guerra -Relief Pitcher of the Year: Brian Gilbert -Starting Pitcher of the Year: Felix Jorge -Hitter of the Year: Kennys Vargas.
  18. Good stuff. Let me throw another option out for Twins' fans who have at least a long weekend or a week to travel to the East Coast and see Twins' MiLB ball: Fly to Albany, NY. Less than 2 hrs by car to New Britain and about 3 hrs to Rochester, plus even away games for both Northern IL and EL are close. Need to have a look at the Rock Cats' and Red Wings' schedules an plan it, but one can definitely double dip...
  19. Got to love the enthusiasm, but all Buxton proved in ST and AFL is that he is over-matched when faces AA plus competition. a. let his wrist be healthy b. let him put at least Pinto or Sano numbers in AA (OPS .900+) c. and then we can start talk about him maybe being ready for the bigs As is he might not be ready for AA...
  20. I will be catching Darnell (Sat) and Diamond (Sun) there. Are you local to ironpig land?
  21. Getting hurt has nothing to do with "toughness". It happens. Hamate fractures (like what Ramos has) are commonplace in baseball. It happens. I guess Adrian Peterson is not as tough as Joe Mauer because of all the knee problems then, using the same logic... Hope that Ramos recovers quickly. He is a good guy and has been through a lot already including a kidnapping and deserves a break.
  22. Good stuff. Eric Farris will not be the DH One of the corner OFs, Cs, or 1B not playing on the field (Ramirez, Parmelee, Nelson, Rahl, Rohlfing, Herrmann, Fryer etc.) Farris will be the UT IF As far as starting pitching goes, despite the fact that they gave him the opening day assignment, Diamond is the 4th best starter in the group behind Meyer, May and Kris Johnson. And Darnell will be pushing him....
  23. Voodoo Kidding aside, there is a single Haitian. Maybe a half: Felix Pie and he moved to the other side of the island to learn baseball Soccer is the big sport in Haiti followed by boxing. They do not have organized baseball as far as I know...
