  1. You sell the future vs hometown. And Buxton is really shy. I wish you had Sano and Vargas in your poll, because these guys are much more marketable than anyone in your list.
  2. Arcia will be a better Left Fielder than the last Twins' Left Fielder. And I cannot remember much noise about Willingham being a statue out there. And unless a fielder is ambidextrous, playing fly balls at LF is different than playing RF, and the cut off men are different. Ground differences, fence distances etc aside. Theoretically LF is regarded as an easier position to play. I would venture to say that the weakest fielding link at the Twins' outfield in 2015 will be one Mr Hunter...
  3. I think that if Rosario makes the Twins, one of Schafer and Nunez will not. Not sure how many options those guys have...
  4. Part of the reason that Steinbach sucked at his job the last couple seasons and was fired, btw...
  5. Kinda glad that he (and Andy & Co) are not parts of the organization any more. The Twins got to turn the page here and change philosophies. With those guys around it would had been harder. And this is Molly's team now.
  6. Disdain is not a good way to describe what I feel about them Heck, disdain, is not a good way to describe even what I feel about Gardy n Andy The problem I have (and it is not with them, it is with the people who play them in high leverage situations - that would be the Gardy n Andy) is that they are pretty much replacement level players who get people out when their BABIPs are approaching .200, but are getting shelled, when approaching .300. Poster boys of mediocrity. And if you are going to use those 2 as your key relievers before you go to a closer (who last season was as shaky as Yesterday Eddie,) you will not win. Yeah. I do have a disdain for losing...
  7. FWIW Matuella is a better pitcher than Aiken...
  8. Yeah, the Twins will give JR a shot. Back of my mind tells me that they have more than 12 pitchers with either no options left, or who they might consider as "given" (like Fien & Thielbar, god forbid.) Nothing to lose, they can always work out trades. I am just concerned that a. they did not realize that their pen had the second worst xFIP in the majors (the rotation had the fourth worst) and b. they will keep pitchers who are part of the problem (like the 2 aforementioned, for starters.) This pen needs a lot of work and everything should be up on the air right now, with no scholarships. Kinda concerned that Burdi and Reed did not invited, to tell you the truth. I think that Stauffer will be an upgrade over Swarzak for the swingman role...
  9. Hard to feel sorry for any of them... They are all wealthy, played a game and their team sucked for a while.
  10. Age 20 (because that is the last Sano season) seasons OPS accumulative: Sano: .990 Cabrera: .906 Now, please, tomorrow, or whenever they are going to post Buxton as the Twins' number one prospect, make the same argument about Buxton's OPS vs Sano's. Thank you.
  11. Sure. That was then. And I bet that you did not know that there was a team called Senators that moved to Minneapolis. And that was when the sport was local and in person with some radio coverage and no TV coverage. And that was baseball then. Fast forward to the 80s and TBS and WGN and things changed. Everyone with cable could see every single Braves and Cubs game. And the local barriers broke. Fast forward to the internet era and thinking that baseball is a local ballgame still is silly. I bet that half of us do not live in the Twin Cities any more. There are franchises that try to break those boundaries and have global following. In the 21st century, thinking that your fans are only the same people who are driving I-35 and I-94 with you, is inane (and that is a generous descriptor.) But this is what the Twins are doing. Have them wear Giants' minor league affiliate uniforms in retro games, because they happened to play in Minneapolis. No. Pride. No Ownership. No History. Whomever played here. As the wind blows. And what I am saying about Griffith taking the "history of the Senators with him", is absolutely true. Signed sealed delivered by the MLB. More than an "understanding".
  12. The strikeout rate on 20 year olds is overstated and does not really stand alone. You got to look at the K/BB ratio as well. Here are a few age 20 (and a couple 21 year old) season numbers: Sano: 27.2 K%, 2.18 K/BB M. Cabrera: 24.3% K%, 3.36 K/BB H. Killebrew: 39.4% K%, 3.90 K/BB Mike Schmidt (21) : 24.6% K%, 2.44 K/BB A. Belle (21): 27% K%, 2.84 K/BB and here is the kicker: PA/HR (same seasons with age in parenthesis) : Belle (21): 15 Sano (20): 15.1 Killebrew (20): 22 Cabrerra (20): 28.3 Schmidt (21): 33.5 Oh, and one more guy: Bo Jackson. Age 23 (AA): 38.2% K%, 3.68 K/BB, 30.3 PA/HR Sano is THAT good folks... And his ceiling is above all the aforementioned.
  13. Not true. It was made clear that Griffith took the whole Senators history with him when he moved the team to Minnesota. The Pohlads just don't want to do anything about it. If you remember, there was another team in DC after the Senators moved to MN. The one that moved to Dallas a decade or so later. The Senators' history is the Twins' history. A team is not bound by its location. Ask the Dodgers, Giants, Braves and Athletics, if you don't believe me...
  14. Hand-eye coordination? Neuroscouting? (I would think that it would involve electrodes) Just give the kids a bunch of quarters and watch them play pinball, packman or pong
  15. There was a Twins' player a few moons afterwards that was build (and hit) just like Kirby did when he was young. And had the same smile. But not quite that arm strength: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eZ4GYE0Hsns/TvfDkDdD1LI/AAAAAAAABpY/mD-QCsJbCZU/s1600/Young+Kirby.jpg http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/15/8c/1b/158c1b61767608c98529ff506ed01652.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IGYbLuIqGU0/TtaXT_G1CRI/AAAAAAAADwY/KryCGl4UqLM/s1600/Ben+Revere.png
  16. You do realize that they retired Blyleven's only AFTER he was elected to the Hall of Fame and at least he helped the Twins win a World Series... Maybe they will vote Hunter to the Twins HOF, but retiring his number? I just don't see how.
  17. They have enough numbers retired already. Hunter left the team for more $ and then signed with a division rival. Retire his number? Ha If Mauer has a HOF career, he should be part of the discussion. If I were to retire one more number, it would be #4 for Hall of Famer Joe Cronin (They started wearing numbers in 1931, so earlier players like Walter Johnston did not have numbers.)
  18. Alright That's what they say. Please tell me what pitch is this one? Stadium Radar reading on the upper right: And, really, it is hard to "add or subtract" on the breaking balls, because when you try to alter the grip or the motion they tend to go all over the place...
  19. I don't care about Pettitte and I think that the Yankees are maybe sending the wrong message by retiring his number (or at least a message that conflicts with their treatment of A-Rod) but I feel sad for Knoblauch. Seems like a bitter bitter man, not unlike Canseco when he wrote that book.
  20. Reusse needs an editor: He enrolled at UC-San Diego in the fall of 2007 and became a pharmaceutical major. Gee! (His major was Pharmacological Chemistry, btw) Shibuya has been very unlucky with injuries, but I can see him with the Twins some day. This will be an interesting season for him.
  21. I don't know... All I hear about Gordon is "bloodline". And his brother has a career 86 OPS+ in the majors. Great fantasy value with all those stolen bases, but... FWIW he was 12th in my list (and the second SS and middle infield prospect behind Polanco). A .699 OPS in E-Town (Sano's was .988, Polanco's .903 and Buxton's .796 same age, same place and Rosario's 1.068 same place a year older) just does not leave me warm and fuzzy about being in the same conversation as these 4, for example... Lot's of potential, but needs to be realized, plus the bloodline does not mean that much...
  22. Matuella is on the head of the class in this draft as far as College pitchers go. Funkhouser has a Jonathan Broxton body type, for whatever that is worth. Kyle Cody (Kentucky) as a sophomore would be a great pick, but not at 6. If here is there at 73, they should get him. Really high ceiling he needs a third pitch and he is getting it. Carson Fulmer from Vandy is another guy to watch; Berrios' size, he will drop, but already has 3 close to plus pitches. I like all these righties ahead of Kirby who most consider the top lefty in this College draft. Brett Lilek, Garrett Cleavinger, Cole Irvin (the last 2 from Oregon, which is a school you might want to watch play) might quickly gain ground. I do like this College pitching class and I am sure that a couple more will appear from the woodwork during the season. Not all about Aiken and Cameron
  23. Anyone cares to mention the Twins' Vegas lines before the 1987 and 1991 seasons?
  24. Short memory is a wonderful thing. Two i Torii who punched a teammate before and was fairly disliked in the clubhouse is called a "good teammate"... Let's see how long this is going to last. Torii cares about Torii, per past experience.
  25. Hold on to your horses for a sec Polanco has nothing to prove at AA Stewart needs to go to Fort Myers first. I hope that Sano starts the season in the Majors (but will settle with AAA)
