  1. Does Ozzie Conseco count in this contest?
  2. For the US team, the entire schedule (even if they make the championship) takes less than two weeks. There's no way that a stretch of time that short will be crippling to a player. There's rest built in if they're used, and if they're not, they'll do their regular upkeep activities. They'll still throw bullpen sessions and the like, and I believe the players' MLB teams have the ability to lay down stipulations for their players' usage. Add to it close to another 2 weeks afterwards before the end of the preseason, and it's no more likely to wear a guy down or hurt a player's schedule than whatever may happen in the preseason with their MLB team.
  3. Possibly, but most of the teams with the bulk of the MLB players (US, Dominican) don't play a WBC game until March 7-9. That's two weeks into the exhibition schedule. Starting pitchers should be adequately built up to top out at 85 pitches by that point, and then get the mandatory 4 days rest. (From what I found of the rules once I actually bothered to look.)
  4. They have pretty strict restrictions on WBC pitchers. I believe the max pitches allowed is under 100, and mandatory days of rest.
  5. You mean to Afghanistan, right?
  6. You mean other than the two other ones already referenced on this exact forum?
  7. Deduno and Devries relate because until they got "the call" to patch up the sinking rotation, they were making the same nothing that Harden will be making in the minors if he doesn't make the team. That's why signing a load of those guys is basically free to the team, as opposed to guaranteeing 100 times that to Correia to be a likely below-average pitcher, for each of the next two years, no less. Guess who we also will probably not want "in the plans" for 2014? Correia. But the Twins will still be on the hook for $5M, instead of nothing. You act like this is even my point. It isn't. But then you jumped in and made your "hilarious joke" of a counter-argument, and the sheer idiocy and irrelevancy of it required comment. It's not like I'm alone in noticing this. Good lord, can we just get a name change from "old" to "senile" and get it over with?
  8. The article doesn't mention the other wing of Twins stat analysis. JR has this one guy on his Friendster account that really seems to like sabermetrics. Or maybe it was that he owned a Buick Lesabre. Either way, if that guy ever logs back into his account, JR's going to pepper him with questions.
  9. In this hypothetical, these aren't ten guys signed and given MLB roster spots. These are guys given minors deals to come in with the hopes that one or two pitch well enough to eat MLB innings at some point during the season. If that happens with all ten guys, then yes, you'd be paying them $500K, but you'd also have the greatest fortune in the history of the signings of flawed, marginal players. To stretch it into "you can only pay 10 guys with Correia's salary" when referring to the types of reclamation projects that a Deduno-Devries type represents is beyond absurd. The point is that by rolling the dice on a dozen or so guys like that, there's a good chance you could more cheaply fill the kind of highly paid, mediocre-at-best production that Correia is going to give you.
  10. I think one of the sites had it pegged at about 50 wins last I had seen, although that was a while ago.
  11. So when you said they could "only get 10 Dedunos or DeVrieses" for Correia's contract, those would somehow be $500K minor league deals?
  12. Are you completely unaware that guys like Deduno and DeVries are generally brought in on minor league deals?
  13. I'm assuming it was posted in the "when 2012 ST tickets go on sale" section of the Twins' site.
  14. Should he get credit for his remarkable ability to inspire Peterson to have an all-time season for a RB against consistent 8-man fronts? (The 8-man fronts being due to Ponder's own inability to throw the ball.) Or maybe his ability to throw for the 25th most yards in the league and less than any QB who started the whole season? (And still behind some who missed games.) Which of these turds should we be polishing to the "credit" of the QB? The team has won in spite of him, and solely to the credit of Peterson being superhuman. Congratulations, Christian Ponder! You weren't terrible enough to offset AP's monster performances!
  15. If there were widespread discrimination based upon something like height or hair color, they would be comparable to discrimination based upon race or sexual orientation. Seeing as there ISN'T, then yes, the comparison is very "silly". The straws you grasp at are getting more and more ridiculous.
  16. And the only part I was saying was "equivalent" was that neither was a choice. You were the one somehow saying that it was impossible to compare them because one is obvious at a glance, and the other has to be "told to the world".
  17. Wow, this pointless diversion statement is even more effective the third time you used it as a response.
  18. Improved access to the exits may be quite useful after the last two seasons and the roster "improvements" they've made this offseason.
  19. May not sound like a serious question, but I assure you it is. This person named "Kiley" is a guy?
  20. So, again, because they don't "automatically" broadcast their sexuality when they walk into the room, it's their fault if it becomes known and they suffer ill will because of it. That is exactly what you are saying. It's an equivalent thing in the sense that neither is a choice. You're born with your sexuality the same way you're born white, black, Asian, or whatever. Just because one is obvious visually while the other isn't, it doesn't make it any different. No matter what sense you are using to determine a difference, it's still prejudice to discriminate against a person because of it. A "visual" prejudice is no difference than one brought about based on what you hear about someone through whatever outlet. One may be easier to determine at a short glance, but that doesn't make it any more or less idiotic, hateful, or understandable. In any case, it's not the fault of that person that they were born that way, and just because one can hide it, doesn't mean they should ever have to just to avoid baseless, thoughtless hate.
  21. Sometimes they do, but because they're wet after the "response" to their attempt to "discuss" the issue was having firehoses turned on them. You know, "reasonable".
  22. You mean drawing conclusions from the "blame the victim" type of statement you made where you're saying "well, if they're picked on for this, it's because they told the world about it"? I think that wasn't "reading into it" as much as simply "reading".
  23. So basically, because the option exists that this group of people CAN live a shameful, hidden lifestyle, they deserve scorn and shame if they decide not to. Got it.
