  1. Because if there's one thing intolerance has always responded well to, it's subtle, nuanced discussion.
  2. In the sense that neither is anyone's choosing and you are born with it, yes, they can be easily compared. Or should we allow bias against certain religions as well, since you have to "share" your belief?
  3. Except for the fact that the entirety of baseball is one on one matchups where the inferior players will be exposed and overmatched by the superior ones over time. Football can be schemed due to the involvement of 11 players on every play. You can hide Ponder's inefficiencies by running teams ragged with Peterson. If you throw Drew Butera out there to hit .200, you can't hide him every time he has to hit.
  4. I'm frankly surprised at the amount of Hunter understanding being bandied about in here. The response to this kind of "I'm not comfortable with a gay teammate" nonsense should be the same as "I'm not comfortable with negroes marrying our white women" or "I'm not comfortable with women voting" or "I'm not comfortable with a black kid in my kid's class". And that response is not "Let's hear this person out, they may have a point." It should be scorn and shame for the type of closed-minded idiocy that it serves as an example of. I somehow doubt Torii would be quite as open to freedom of speech, or understanding of the people's "opinion", if there were parents refusing to let their kids go to school in any class that his kids were in based entirely on their skin color. Hiding behind religion in this day and age is just a thinly veiled attempt to excuse prejudice.
  5. If the #3 hitter is leading the league in OBP like Mauer, then I'd say it's the #4 hitter.
  6. Or to go a step further back, Torii would still be someone's legal property.
  7. Ah, the old "he attacked his workers with a machete and poured gas on them" railroad trial tactic. Classic Venezuela.
  8. The reason everyone is speaking along those lines is, yes, competitive teams will give up assets for a productive rental player they think will help their playoff push. It happens virtually every year, but it usually isn't the Twins in possession of the wanted commodity. If a guy who is starting to enter the decline age range in his career can bring assets back, then see what you can turn him into. And as for "giving up the season", the likelihood of the team being a known terrible commodity by the trade deadline is pretty high. The number of people outraged by trading a guy who could very well on his way out the door in a few months would be relatively small compared to the people already annoyed by a team that could be on its way to a third straight 90+ loss season. I doubt there's any notable group of people who would consider trading Morneau the "last straw" in deciding whether to go to a game or not.
  9. Seriously. Top Gun has to be some kind of random posting bot, right?
  10. Where does Sano getting to spend the bulk of the offseason (so to speak) eating home-cooked beans and rice fall into the news spectrum?
  11. Yes, the theoretical Brock was throwing out, which you were drawing from, wasn't "go in and offer a down payment towards a long-term series of more respectable installments". It was "go, in, offer a ridiculously low sum for a valuable item, and then be outraged when it isn't accepted".
  12. What? If you walk into a Ferrari dealership and offer them $5000 for a car, they don't wait briefly and see if a better offer comes along, then take a minuscule fraction of its value. They laugh at you and send you on your way.
  13. And call up Eric Crouch! I bet he can still afford a cell phone. Then again...
  14. That turd isn't going to polish itself!
  15. I think JR meant that Correia literally left money on the table when he and his agent went out to dinner with him to talk contract terms. Having dined mostly with the Pohlads, JR was confused at this, not knowing it was called a "tip" by the masses.
  16. That's probably who JR thinks he just signed.
  17. Whereas with Correia, you're guaranteed diarrhea in a bucket.
  18. His 45 innings for Rochester will be the steal of the offseason!!!
  19. He hasn't thrown a pitch in the better part of two years, is moving into the decline phase of his career, and had little to no velocity prior to missing all of last season. To cap it off he's hyper-prone to injury, having only topped 150 IP once in his career, and that was when Bush was running for his second term. Sounds like a signing right in the Twins' wheelhouse.
  20. My review of the Twins' rotation as it stands would be the same as this magical album review: Jet: Shine On | Album Reviews | Pitchfork
  21. I'm going to start sending bags of feces to the Twins FO and see how much they'll pay me for them.
  22. Billy Beane at #2, because nothing screams "sexy" like "young Ralph Nader".
  23. Sam's profile doesn't seem right without a Fuhrer rank.
  24. Anyone want to go catch up with Yarni at the Winona one? I'm sure he'll be there. Also, JR will be there, and may make further offers of lucrative pitching contracts to non-baseball players. You could get rich, but be warned, I can still dial it up to the low 80's!
  25. I hope some of our hot, new building blocks like Kevin Correia make it to my neck of the woods!
