  1. The only selling point to be made to Lohse should be this: "Don't let the door stop you this time. Finish the job." (You really couldn't find a worse example than Lohse for this hypothetical.)
  2. Don't play ****ty players. Quite the master plan you guys are agreeing on here.
  3. Anyone from #3 on down, I guess.
  4. The point is, guys like Deduno aren't blocking ANYONE who performs halfway decent, not just Meyer or May. If half the AA rotation throws lights out the first few months of the season, not one of them will be stifled by Deduno being on the AAA roster. They will replace him on it in a heartbeat.
  5. Just copy that post to a clipboard. It should serve you well in the months to come.
  6. Come on, what star athlete in his early 20's DOESN'T have a long-term, long-distance, high-drama relationship where he literally never sees the person he "loves" face-to-face when talking to them for the entirety of the relationship? I mean, those happen all the time, right up to the point where the other person dies, and then the star athlete passes on the one final chance he would have had to EVER see this person in the flesh (for the first and only time) in order to play a game. It really could happen to anyone. (Provided they have no functional cerebral cortex)
  7. Well, at least they've decided not to hitch their wagon to injury risk guys. Right, Worley, Pelfrey and Harden?
  8. Yet when asked if he was gay, he replied, "Far from it. Faaaar from it." His repetition of his answer, while emphasizing how absolutely NOT gay he is, has me entirely convinced. I'm sure he also happens to have a "wide stance" in the men's room.
  9. They're also saying they traded their best OF (Upton) for something "before he walked". That's not a factor in any of this.
  10. "Arizona had excess outfielders and turned their best one in something before he walked"
  11. Yes. Yes, he is. Funny side note: My high school calculus teacher's last name was Lightfoot. Far and away one of the smartest people I have ever met. Apparently, the universe has a similarly-named counterpoint to everything.
  12. Upton is signed through 2015. There wasn't any need to rush because of an imminent walk year.
  13. Well, except for the $5.5M he's also owed in 2014...
  14. I know we want to keep Lenny away from the rabbits, but could we add keyboards to the list?
  15. The "intelligence" behind a post whose sole premise is "they should get the most they can for an asset" is akin to "you should avoid getting hit by a car when crossing the street". It's stating that it would be a good plan is to shoot for the ideal outcome every time. That's common freaking sense, not overly insightful. But don't let me get in the way of self-congratulating the greatness of your posts.
  16. So then the MI won't have been addressed properly? Awesome.
  17. Well, it's never too late for a guy to have an impact, right?
  18. Also, those years happened in, whattayacallit, the American League.
  19. Please, go find me one reputable prospect guy who will have Colabello on their top 10 list, or explain to me what conspiracy they have cooked up to not consider him a top prospect. Projecting what 17-year olds could do at a D-II school is significantly different from projecting how minor leaguers will fare against the highest level of competition. It's hit or miss either way, but the professional guys are playing a much higher stakes version of the game, so there's probably a good reason that their evaluation practices remain largely universal. Are you out scouring for 25-year olds complaining at a local bar that they "just never got a chance" for your next big college player, or do you generally stick to the high school ranks? Colabello is the guy at the bar, whereas young guys at the low-to-midlevels of the minors are the high schoolers.
  20. And it's also the opinion of virtually EVERY prospect evaluator that does it for a living. I wonder why that is?
  21. Don't bother. He'll just eventually feign outrage and claim personal insult. Standard operating procedure.
  22. The thing is, he's not new to pro ball. He's been toiling in indy leagues for the better part of a decade. Generally there's a reason why that happens to a player. The reason age factors into players being labelled as "prospects" is that they have not yet reached the years where players generally "peak", leaving room for improvement both in tools and their physical frame. Colabello is firmly in the midst of the typical "peak" years already, and only projects as a no-glove 1B or possibly corner OF. That's not exactly a basket of tools just waiting to explode on the scene, particularly now that he's probably bordering on his decline years.
  23. Where does Roy Hobbs rank on current prospect lists?
  24. The 1999 example is poor because they would have been hard-pressed to spend less on a team in 2000 without fielding less than 25 men on the roster. Ditto for the following few years, when virtually the entire team were still indentured servants.
