  1. You lost me there...
  2. Prom is early April around here...busy time during school as I went to 5 in my high school career.
  3. I love a good cover, but that's one of those moments when you really can't call it a cover. Johnny completely took that song to another dimension. In 100% seriousness, the first time I heard that song, I cried. It was that intense.
  4. Absolutely the version I had in mind, which is why I didn't cite Derek and the Dominos
  5. A list of some songs, some covers: BB King - Lucille O Sole Mio - Jussi Bjorling Ring of Fire - Home Free (ft. Avi Kaplan) Hallelujah - The Tenors (formerly known as The Canadian Tenors) Eric Clapton - Layla Trans-Siberian Orchestra - A Mad Russian's Christmas Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze Otis Redding - Sitting On the Dock of the Bay Beach Boys - Good Vibrations Josh Groban - You Raise Me Up
  6. Yeah, they're from MN, but they've really some fun stuff, including their take on "All About That Bass" and their "Butts Remix". If you can't smile watching those videos, you need a life reboot.
  7. Yeah, I have no idea how to reduce without losing genres...or musical memories that are pretty big for me.
  8. Give Home Free a try. They are country, I'll warn you of that. The better way to consume them, however, is to watch their videos, because frankly, those guys have FUN making music, which is how it should be!
  9. Over, but barely. I don't see anyone in the AL getting to 95, and the AL West I could see being a group of 85-88 win teams with one poor one (Oakland).
  10. Being a vocalist of a wide range (and varying weird abilities to do with my vocal chords - not like that, you sickos!), I'm a big fan of vocal arranged music. My big kick has been Home Free. I'm also a fan of so many varying genres that identifying the rest of the list would be rough. Metallica - Black Album was my pre-game music for athletics Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue is one of those I can let run on the player over and over and never stop Jussi Bjorling recordings are amazing (my vocal performance instructor at the U compared me to him vocally in my high range and really got me into his vocal stylings) Garth Brooks - No Fences was played very frequently in tractor cabs as I worked on the farm, and it definitely changed some of my opinion on country Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon I'll also agree on Nirvana - Nevermind.
  11. Twins fans were blessed to have Herb Carneal for all those years. I loved to listen to him call games as I sat in a tractor for an afternoon. The Braves have had a tie-in with the Carey family for far too long for my taste. At least Skip was comical in his homerism. Chip is just flat bad. The one guy from the Braves side that really impresses me doing radio and even TV analysis and color work is John Smoltz. I always figured Maddux would be the guy to want in a booth, but as Tom Glavine once said, when it comes to baseball, everyone else is speaking English, and Greg's speaking Greek!
  12. I mentioned his passing in the Celebrity Death Pool thread. With Vin Scully retiring after this season, we're losing way too many voices of the game, and all too many of them forever. Sadly, they're being replaced by nothing even in the same neighborhood of quality.
  13. A commenter posted the Justin Upton play without mentioning that the ball in question was actually stuck under the wall, as visible as it may be.
  14. Over, but just barely. Their bullpen scares me.
  15. Joe Garagiola All the good baseball voices are going away...
  16. I have two puppies currently, both acquired on Valentine's Day, one a poodle, who is now roughly 3 months old, and the other a pug, who is now roughly 4 months old. The idea of training two puppies at once was bordering insanity, but now we are essentially one step away from being approved to be foster parents. That would really add to the insanity of the household! I've had a few dogs in my life, but one of the things I made clear to my wife was that I preferred a "mutt" if at all possible. I love the pug, and he has taken to his Braves name (Maddux) and even has already taken to sitting in my lap to watch Braves minor league games as I write up scouting reports, but by far the best dog I ever had was a mutt, and we had her on our farm for almost 15 years. If I had more property or lived out of town further, I'd love to have an outdoor-only dog as I grew up with! This is the pug:
  17. I was considering them at .500, so I'll take the under, just barely.
  18. Not really. He's just not playing in games, but he's going through whole workouts right now. They're just pacing his arm as he's had some fatigue.
  19. Barely under, though I could see Andrelton pulling an Ozzie Smith and discovering the offensive value many have seen coming after moving to his second team.
  20. I'd argue strongly against inverted W as any sort of causation, as would Mike Maddux, his brother Greg, Nolan Ryan, and Tom Seaver, all of whom have stated that it was exactly how they were taught to generate power, and how they did generate power over very long careers. With Mike, it's how he's taught pitching, and he's had extremely good rates of injury with the pitchers in his tutelage over the years. There could be some level of correlation, but I think part of the issue we have is that we're watching frame by frame on pitchers now and breaking down every second of a delivery. By all means, the lack of utilizing legs within delivery to generate velocity and movement rather than arms, the poor weight training still predicated on young pitchers in high school ranks (seriously most gymnastics coaches in high school understand weight lifting better than baseball coaches), and the over-emphasis of velocity over pitching skill has rapidly affected the health of arms.
  21. I won't get into the long argument of it, but I pretty much won't buy organic, especially not in the U.S., where "organic" farmers can use more chemicals than my own father uses on his farm, yet he won't ever qualify as organic. Organic farming has also terribly abused farm land in this country due to poor farming and agricultural practices. Needless to say, I don't want to support the industry whatsoever, especially when I'm blessed with the ability to get most of my goods right here locally anyway, knowing right where they come from.
  22. Interestingly, Baker referenced his own son when discussing this issue with Peter Gammons. Gammons referenced an article in a tweet, but I can't grab the tweet at work.
  23. Exactly. From what I'd heard, LaRoche attempted to come to a negotiation point with the White Sox after his announcement and the information as to why he made the announcement became public. He wanted to keep it from becoming a drawn out thing. When he felt that wasn't going to be possible, he turned in his papers and turned it over to his union to handle further grievances.
  24. Sure would work well once we convince everyone to max out their velocity in the 90mph range on average rather than upper 90s. An interesting tid bit was discussed on velocity recently on a Fangraphs podcast, and I couldn't tell you who the guest was as I tend to binge-listen to the podcast. I remember the guest referencing to Carson that in 1991, there were 4 teams that reported having at least one pitcher who recorded a timed 100 mph pitch on the season. 25 years later, there were enough pitches over 100 mph recorded in the majors for a pitcher to have led the league in relief innings pitched on nothing but 100 mph pitches thrown in the league last season. That's a drastic change.
  25. And the one source I had stated there was something in the contract that didn't specifically outline Drake, but did address family being present, so there may be something written as well, but as you said, there's so much we don't know that it's going to be an incredible thing to watch unfold.
