  1. Not surprising after possibly the dumbest defensive play of the season this weekend from Jon Villar. Houston was getting poor defense and then the one guy giving almost average defense ends up pulling another major bonehead play.
  2. Do I? I'll have to get on that. I've been dropping guys when I move someone up from the minors and not replacing that guy in the minors, which is what probably happened there. Nice to have a roster spot, but 5 is too many. I'll get on some research tonight probably.
  3. Thanks. I was surprised Bour was still out there, and Holt has been easily my wisest free agent since I started. I got burned on a couple of my initial trades, but I was told in one trade email that I was "higher than a kite" on Kinsler and Hosmer, and lo and behold, they've been two of my best players this year, and the player who made that comment has had a rough year at both positions. Segura's bounce back is something I played on in a few leagues. Now if only Danny Santana could rediscover the magic!
  4. Me three. And ugh if that happens!
  5. I'm still here. I do miss the "general board" discussions of politics and such that were certainly R-rated. Oh, and the itstimetotakealongjumpoffashortbridge meltdown thread, which was a good read every few months just to remind yourself of the good things in life.
  6. I asked about that with the whole big blow up going on, and the message I got back was that it wasn't okay to do a RP in SP, but as long as I wasn't streaming, the opposite was okay. I don't have an issue at all with swapping him out, though, as O'Day has outscored him this year, and he's a solid pitcher in this format. I've done well with some fairly important offensive pieces out to start the year and Rusney in AAA. I'm certainly pleased with how things are building so far.
  7. To continue down the Hawks path, a Kyle Korver would be an incredible asset to this current roster. So much that his skill set would add to what the Wolves currently have.
  8. Definitely agree there. Their play seems to compliment one another very well. The small window when Rubio was on the court with those two was a fun back court to watch, surprisingly on both ends of the court. Will they be willing to let the young guys run and use Martin to back up SG/SF, or will there need to be veteran presence to make Flip happy. His biggest detriment in his coaching has always been that he'd have "his guys", and he'd be loyal to them to a fault at times. I don't know who his guys are on this team, but if you have everyone, save Wiggins, willing to sacrifice their time on the court to the hot hand (if Muhammad is going for 30, Martin might only see 15 minutes that game, or vice versa), this team could go from #1 pick to playoff contender real fast. Atlanta basically did that with their squad this year and had the best record in the East.
  9. I didn't mean in their skillsets, more in that they both have skills to start, but play the same position. Very different skills. That's the biggest issue, really, using these guys to the best of what they could do would have a very good team. Do you trust Flip to do that?
  10. Major league baseball contracts are 100% guaranteed once they are signed. The player is getting the money no matter what. Baseball has had 10/5 rights for years and years.
  11. It is a good question, probably one worthy of a new thread, frankly. I am curious about how Towns/Dieng would work together at C/PF, and I'd honestly want to see how that would work before pursuing a PF in free agency. Unless a sweeheart deal comes their way that gives them another first this year without hurting future drafts too much, I'd keep plugging with who they have. I think Bennett is someone who they could use time to see what they have, and having Thad Young around really hurt the chance to get him integrated early, and then he was banged up. He's got a ridiculous amount of talent, even if he wasn't a worthy #1 pick. He, Dieng, and Bjelica could play at the big 3/4 positions. Muhammad is a guy I'm very intrigued by so far. There was a lot to love there last year before his injury. I do think he and Martin are repetitive on the same team, though, so that could allow Martin to be more available.
  12. That would appease home town fans, but fans were also irate that the club didn't move up in 2000 to get Khalid El-Amin. I like Tyus, but I really thought he should have played a second year of college, and the cost to move to a top 15ish pick, which is where he's projected to go, is too high. If you can swing moving a player for pick sort of thing if Tyus starts to fall, then that's a different story, but I just think you're sacrificing too much for a guy that I don't think is ready to play right away.
  13. Mind you, not you personally, JB! I re-read this and it could come off in that manner. However if the Hawkeyes would want to take up tic tac toe rather than collegiate athletics, I can say I would have no semblance of disappointment.
  14. Preferably go somewhere where we no longer have to see you!
  15. I get frustrated when someone butchers the words, but more because usually they're in the midst of a 10-minute rendition of the song. I completely understand someone struggling with the song. It's a song that requires a ton of range, has unusual word placement in relation to notes at parts of the song, and you're in front of a crowd 100% focused on what you're doing. I can understand forgetting the words in that setting, but one way to make the song easier to remember? Sing it the way it's written... </oldmanyellingatcloud.jpg>
  16. No Gophers, no Tyler Jay. Boo. I don't want to see Blake Hickman with a tomahawk across his chest, so I wouldn't want to see him, and Brandon Lowe would be a reach for any of the picks in the top 100 that the Braves have, so not worth the six hour drive. Not knocking it, and this will sound weird from someone who is focused on writing about the minor leagues, but I've just never gotten into college baseball. I had a cousin who pitched for St. Cloud State and I sang for Gopher games when I was in college, but those are the only college games I ever tried to attend. They just didn't appeal to me.
  17. Word already out that Flip was talking about how Towns isn't a sure pick, and they like Okafor a lot and consider Russell as highly as the two big men. I considered that he might be honest for about a second, then I laughed and laughed and laughed. Seriously, though, if Towns isn't the pick, Flip should be out of a job before the 2nd round pick is made.
  18. Towns plus Wiggins will be so much fun to watch. The Wolves will have 3 #1 overall picks on their roster.
  19. Very possibly. BJ Upton the last two years was an above average defender when Jason Heyward was in right field. When Heyward was hurt for a good portion of 2013, Justin Upton and Evan Gattis were the primary corner guys, and BJ's defensive stats took such a dive in those 40-50 games that he ended up right at average defensively. So if it can hurt a reputed above average defender who's been playing the position a while, I could see it hurting Myers as he's still learning the outfield defensively.
  20. Then you've never seen him. That was the biggest joke on Braves fan sites last year that somehow Upton went from the worst outfielder in baseball to a league average guy, yet he looked even worse in the field in 2014. He has HORRIBLE instincts off the bat, which leads to terrible routes, and his arm is merely average, to slightly above average. The Braves went through a lot of CFers in the two years Justin was in Atlanta, and there's very, very good reason he didn't play there.
  21. Eh, I consider such comments very ill-informed and basically noise, so I guess it didn't even register. Gomez most certainly received damage to his brain tissue in the play, though likely not to the level of a diagnosed concussion. A diagnosed concussion is like a diagnosed ligament tear. You can do a lot of damage to the ligament without tearing it, and it's never diagnosed as a tear, but every bit of damage does increase the impact of the next "hit" to the area. I've had four diagnosed concussions in my life, but in spite of playing football to the collegiate level and a number of blows to the head in baseball and basketball growing up, I was never once diagnosed in sports in spite of taking more direct hits to the head area. I'm not old enough yet to have insurance pay for any scanning, but I will wager a scan of my brain wouldn't look pretty.
  22. That's a thing?! I would almost wager that it's more lucrative for St. Paul to remain in their independent league. Most teams in indy ball have larger revenue streams to work with due to not having an affiliate to appease and league fees/dues are much, much lower. Dan Evans gave some great interviews a couple years ago on the indy vs. affiliated ball argument when he was the commish of the Northern League.
  23. Hockey has a ton of concussion issues, so that doesn't really make a lick of sense. Somehow the hockey head trauma issue has flown far under the notoriety of the football head trauma issue.
  24. I love rules like that. There's a league I once was invited to where you get points as we do here, but subtracted -2 per year for any person that you yourself take out. The league had a significant buy-in, or I might have enjoyed playing. There were bonus points for certain kinds of death and all sorts of fun, grisly things!
  25. I am very pleased with how my trades worked out for me this offseason. I'm really waiting on a few guys who are right on the cusp of the majors (Rusney, Peraza, Norris, Lorenzen) to take the next step in order to see what I really have. Injuries have not been my friend either, as I lose Segura as Nick Franklin comes back and Jake Lamb and Alex Rios were off to very nice starts before hitting the DL.
