It was the biggest seller in many places that had laws that allowed 18 year-olds to drink 3.2% with regular alcohol reserved for 21+. Those laws were kept by some states (and I thought one or two states still had something on the books) until the mid-80s primarily. There is 3.2% beer around still because of brand loyalty in many of those areas, but the big thing now is 3.2% wine to get around the liquor/wine Sunday bans.

There is 3.2% beer and wine that can be sold at any time. In South Dakota, beer can be sold any time, but hard liquor/full alcohol wine cannot be sold on Sunday.

I remember well. The changes in time were a big change between my two stints working at Grandma's at Seven Corners. That, and the smoking ban, drastically changed bar culture in about a 3 year span.

And that part I agree with. I've just never gotten why people are so upset about a business not being open on a day. That doesn't mean by any means I support the law being on the books, it's just that I rarely hear anyone bring the "it's a stupid KIND of law" argument. It's typically about "I need my beer, give me my beer!"

They are here in South Dakota. Walmart has their hard liquor completely locked up on Sundays here and their beer aisle identifies which of their selection is legal to sell (I honestly couldn't tell you what it is that is able to be purchased on Sundays).

I always keep my place stocked. I don't get how that's an issue. I may not have it cold, but there's always a supply of beer, wine, and liquor depending on the crowd that may show up. Would you let yourself run out of milk, bread, or ketchup? If your local grocer was closed on Sundays (as is the case in many small communities), would there then be a movement to force the grocer to be open on Sunday?

I have never personally understood the issue with either side of the fence. I don't get why it should be a state-mandated thing, and I don't understand why people couldn't pick up their alcohol Monday-Saturday. I remember the faux outrage when living in Minnesota and New Year's Eve happened to be a Sunday. Liquor stores across the border in Wisconsin were expecting huge sales days. I walked into my local liquor store on December 30th, Saturday, and I was one of only two people in a store near the U of M in Minneapolis. The shelves were fully stocked, and I purchased everything I would need for the next day. Interestingly enough, none of it went bad by the time it was opened on Sunday. Craziness! On the same level, a store owner should not need the state to assist them in taking a day off. Akin to Chik-Fil-A having Sundays off, regardless of the reason, I would have no issue with taking the day off. Some get bugged by Chik-Fil-A being closed due to religious reasons, but I also had multiple days that one of my favorite cafes back when I lived in White Bear Lake would be closed because the owners were Jewish. I didn't go pound on the door of the cafe because they were in the midst of celebrating a Jewish holiday. That said, no matter your religious affiliation, I have no issues with you wanting to have your store closed one day per week. Just do that rather than paying the money to lobby for a "no Sunday sales" state mandate. I just don't really understand either side in the discussion.

Five times now, the Timberwolves have had the worst or second-worst record in the league. Zero times have they had the first pick. My personal biases against Rubio have been clear, and I'd be willing to admit my being wrong when he actually shows me being wrong. I was completely against the contract. Frankly, I think with Rubio, Pekovic is a better guy to have around. I think if you're playing with Dieng and a more up-tempo team, LaVine is absolutely the guy you want blowing past the defense in a fast-paced offense because as well as he can pass, Rubio just doesn't have explosiveness with the ball in his hands anymore with all the injuries.

In design, yes, in actuality, nearly every single thread turns into a Twins-based discussion - Yu Darvish out for the season: can the Twins trade them Nolasco? Jurickson Profar out for the season: is he a buy low for the Twins? Pete Rose considered for reinstatement somehow can devolve into a discussion on the front office and spending. Just my personal observation.

College Products with 3,000 Hits in the Majors

Notre Dame and Minnesota had two, so there's more than one school represented by multiple members of the 3,000 hit club. Winfield and Molitor - U of M Gwynn - San Diego State Tris Speaker was a Texas college - TCU? Cap Anson was Notre Dame, but I think he actually had two colleges, and I'm going to be mad I forgot which one... Yaz was Notre Dame Raffy Palmeiro was Mississippi State (know this because a bunch of Braves fans have a soft spot for him) last one I can remember was the one you showed, Craig Biggio at Seton Hall. I know Columbia used to have a great baseball program in the era of Lou Gehrig, so maybe someone from there. -
No, I never thought he'd be a Brave. They were out of the bidding pretty early.

The other thing that makes me laugh is that possibly the two best hitting prospects the Diamondbacks have both happen to play 3B. Jake Lamb is ready now, and while he isn't a world beater, he could be a .265-20 sort of 3B guy while playing league average defense. Brandon Drury is the real gem. He was plucked from the Braves in the Justin Upton deal and may be the best piece they acquired in that deal. He'll most certainly play high-end 3B defense, but his bat has come along enough to see a guy who could be a .290-20 sort of guy with even more upside in the power department, but hitting a lot of doubles as he builds to that - sort of the similar profile offensively as Manny Machado thus far in his career. Then you have Tomas, who most people said would be lucky to hit .250 and commit less than 30 errors while playing any infield position over a full season. He was a poor signing for Arizona from day one.
