  1. Well, this method would prevent tyranny of the few over the many. I don't think the EC was created in order to give small states or a select few states more emphasis than others. By integrating popular vote percentage, a Republican vote in Idaho can count about as much as a Republican vote in Florida. It gives incentive to campaign in all states, and would force the parties to the center. There won't be battleground states anymore. The down ballot will become even more important, which means the local elections will recruit better candidates that appeal to more people. We have to do something. Dismissing 3m difference in popular vote isn't democracy.
  2. What is your problem with the way the media covered the investigation? How were they supposed to cover it? No cnn coverage that I listened to on serious xm threw out wild allegations. There were serious questions, that still exist, the were being asked. Is obstruction of justice an afterthought?
  3. Ugh. I just wrote an explanation and it was deleted... Hate that. Anyway, I used state popular vote % and allocated it to each state's EC votes. The result is the EC% row. This still give George W. an outright win in 2000, albeit a razor thin win. Hopefully the rest is self explanatory... I had a nice write-up and don't care to go through it all again.

  5. Ben, I did a version of that methodology for every election the last 20 years. It changes 2016, but Bush still wins in 2000. Also gives a voice to third party candidates. If you're interested, I could seems it to you or post it here.
  6. Russians interfered in our election... and the Trump campaign was suspected of helping. People went to jail. This wasn't so much twiddle about nothing. In the end, there wasn't enough evidence to bring a case of conspiracy... which is tough to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.
  7. Like Ashbury said... no evidence is a lot different than not enough evidence. After reading the report I had some takeaways. 1. There was evidence of conspiracy, but not enough evidence to bring a case against Trump or the campaign. This is a big win for Trump and Republicans.... and it will always cloud Trump's presidency. 2. He obstructed justice. Convenient that Barr was against obstruction of justice before he became AG, and decides not to pursue the charge. 3. Trump and the Russians got away with the shenanigans revolving around the election. 4. Democrats need to tread carefully on how they respond. Continue to push for the report to be made public so the public can see the actual evidence that was found. Continue pushing for tax returns. 5. Without the full report being released, I don't trust Barr's summary to be an accurate representation. It might be, but without reading it I am skeptical.
  8. I'm not sure I'd go that far. If he looked squeaky clean, Barr would have already provided a report or copies to Congress. Since it is still secret, I think there is something damming in it about Trump or his family. On the other hand, it could completely vindicate him. Then, his attacks on the investigation would be more bizarre than they already were. No matter what it ends up saying, Trump has behaved like someone that is guilty the entire time.
  9. He'd be tweeting like a mofo. I'm sure he's seen it, this is Trump we're talking about. Anything that has to do with him he will go through hell to know. I'm guessing there wasn't enough evidence to indict him on treason or conspiracy, or Mueller didn't believe in indicting a sitting president. I'm guessing they are coming up with a strategy of how to deal with it right now. Unfortunately for them, it can't be burnt and made to disappear. This is going to come out. I just wonder if any democrats know what's in it or have seen it. I'll be interested to see how hard they pursue the report.
  10. Now that you've been proven right, you'll be back. Then, you'll stumble your way to the sports bar... all bets are off from there. Moderation is light and so is the beer (not really the beer, Summit EPA is a favorite but we can debate if you're feeling foggy).
  11. O snap.
  12. Feel free to always ask for marital advice on this forum...
  13. This Israel policy is as backwards as his Russia policy. Trump is aligning himself with two of the least liked leaders inn the world. Great company to keep.
  14. I keep saying it, but Biden is the establishment. He is no different than Clinton in that regard. His time is over. I lie Abrams too, but this isn't about her. I don't think she should say yes to him. She'll be high on the list for whoever wins the primary.
  15. Polls mean nothing right now. Jeb Bush was the front runner in 2015 at this time. Beto is largely unknown nationally, but I expect him to start gaining quickly. I really think it will be between the newcomers.
  16. At what point does slick Rick get the axe? Spending big money on Barr had to be partly Zimmer... so he join him as far as I'm concerned. Of course, they could put together a fine season and be vindicated... but I see the line as the weakness of this team, again.
  17. I don't mess with Twitter, so that would explain it. That platform would be too intrusive into my life. I don't care to be on the cutting edge of any news that isn't about my family. Annnnnnyway.... at least they conversation is being had now and hopefully the American public will become more educated on what is going on over there.
  18. Where is the bias Palestine coverage coming from? I see plenty of bias toward Israel, but anything critical of Israel is also critical of Palestine. I don't believe liberals or Democrats are anti Israel, but possibly more sympathetic to the reality of the region. For some strange reason, the gop/conservatives has aligned themselves almost completely with Israel... with the exception of a few.
  19. Do you think there has been a void of neutral criticism? For the most part, I think the only bias criticism is pro Israel against Palestine. I see and read a lot of pieces that shine a light that isn't becoming of Israel, but isn't dismissive of Palestine. Israel isn't infallible. They deserve our support as much as any of the NATO allies. The frosty relationship with the Obama and Netanyahu administrations had to do with their failure to keep their word, and lies that were easily discovered. Hopefully, new leadership can restore some credibility.
  20. Shame on him for lumping German immigrants.... who were coming from a country that started the world wars... to Muslim "interlopers?" I don't think you're capable of having a balanced discussion on this topic. You're mixing definitions and refusing to support your hateful words. Unlike Nazi Germany, Jihad is a miniscule sect of the Muslim religion. There were millions of Nazis, and I bet the US even took in a fair amount of them unbeknownst to us at the time. Every concentrated population that has immigrated here has formed a community. Japanese, Irish, German, Polish, Cuban, Chinese, it really doesn't matter where they came from, they all have and continue to do so. The same animosity that you have for Somali immigrants were had for the Irish. Thing is, the second generations always just want to be normal Americans. You can see it with the Somalis even: the kids wear and do American things, the parents are still stuck culturally from where they came from. I have a problem with how frivolous you use Muslim in a negative context. Muslims aren't the problem any more than any organized religion is. Instead of claiming how great your arguments are you should start supporting them.
  21. I thought they'd make Griffen go lower too... But he definitely has the talent to play up to it.
  22. I'm not as tied to electing liberals as I am against electing Trumpy republicans. I'm curious how partisan the next scotus nomination will be if done by a Democrat.... Will they be rejected by the Mitch McConnell led Senate?
  23. So after I posted that, I said to myself they don't have to be mutually exclusive... I think we're all in favor of changing the system. The disagreement is what we do to help lighten the load on the current debt facing us. My thoughts on this topic are ways we can get the most from our investments. Incentives for jobs that require degrees and benefit the public. Like loan forgiveness for teachers, social workers, government attorneys, doctors that participate in the (hypothetical) government run healthcare etc. Make those jobs compete with the private sector to attract better talent and ease student loans for those that are providing value to all. There are so many things that can be done, we just need it to be a priority. Get both bases riled up about it and hopefully something changes.
  24. Ever heard of Bernie bros?
  25. I still don't see that as the end to a means. It helps (Helps, not fixes) the now, and still doesn't fix anything going forward. I think more sweeping policy change can start correcting the burden, and change how we lend money, how much money is lent, and who it is lent to. I have 4 smart kids now, and hope the insurmountable weight of student loan debt is lighter by the time they are choosing schools.
