  1. Disagree. The mood was positive because JR made a few nice trades and had a lot of money to spend and make the team better. Problem is that he used it to sign a bottom feeding starting pitcher and nothing else despite cheap contracts being handed out to guys that would help this team. Everyone has a right to be upset he didn't do more to help the 2013 Twins... including the current players on the 25-man roster.
  2. Prove it.
  3. Long overdue. A few talentless season bad seasons aren't Gardy's fault. JR has a team to run and if that influences his decision shame on him. Keeping Hicks in AAA will benefit this team in a big way, while letting Benson (who could easily be better anyway) showcase and earn a spot.
  4. Apparently JR doesn't agree with you, or he would have done more this offseason to help the big league club.
  5. Outside of the closer, I just don't see many flaws in this team. Verlander, Scherzer, Fister, Porcello, Smyly are all pretty good. Obviously Verlander makes a huge difference. They struggled a little to score runs, and V-Mart coming back and adding Hunter will help. Their defense is a little weak, but Verlander, Scherzer and Smyly are all strike-out pitchers which will help cover it up.
  6. 4, 42, 78, then 4th in the following rounds with pick 110 being their next pick. They have no compensation or competitive balance picks. "The 10 smallest-market teams and 10 lowest-revenue teams will have the chance to win one of six extra selections in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. The odds of winning a Draft pick will be based on each team's winning percentage in the previous season." - Jon Mayo MLB.com I don't have the exact numbers (don't want to look them up) but the Twins seem to be just outside that list now. The D-backs, Orioles, Indians, Royals, A's, Pirates, Padres, Rays, Reds, Rockies, Marlins, Brewers and Cardinals are teams which qualified this season. I would say no way the Twins ever get there, but the Brewers, Cardinals and Orioles inclusion makes me believe ti might be possible.
  7. I disagree with everyone about Hicks, and will be pissed if the Twins actually do start him out of ST. All he needs is to stay at AAA for a month (which would actually help his development IMO) to avoid losing a year of team control. The Twins would be ****ing idiots to not do this on a team that has no chance.... especially if the Twins feel he is the CF of the future. All this talk now is to avoid the truth about why he doesn't go North with the Twins.
  8. Win total for the year? With the ****ty division that is the AL Central (outside of them of course) I believe they could hit 100 wins this season.
  9. Agreed. Steroids allowed pitchers to overcome the aches and pains they feel during a season and the results are obvious. I wish it never happened, because now I wonder what all these great players in my lifetime would be like without the drugs.
  10. Santana got injured I'm guessing. The best move the Twins could have done is not trade him and let him walk for picks. They did a terrible job scouting those prospects. Anyone with a brain would have seen how horrendous Gomez's flaws were and the no-upside of the pitchers involved in the deal. There is a reason everyone on the board was screaming, even worse when we actually go to watch those guys.
  11. Problem is the Tigers still have Cabrera, Fielder, Jackson and added Hunter. They also have the best pitcher in the game right now to go along with one of the best rotations/pitching staffs in the AL. No, the Twins wont be competing with the Tigers this year no matter how good those guys do unless DET has some major injuries. *I forgot the return of V-Mart too... knew I was forgetting something **I think its possible for them to hit 100 wins this season (see MLB forum)
  12. I'm sure the Twins wouldn't mind that either. They could then sign a guy like Jason Hammel, Josh Johnson, Tim Lincecum, Adam Wainwright (assuming they are FA next offseason) to anchor the rotation. I don't see many guys I like to help the MI. I wouldn't mind Kelly Johnson but the Twins have shown no interest in him (or any other MI option that can OPS over .650). Hopefully Santana will be knocking on the door for SS by this time next season.
  13. I vote Hendriks. I think Dozier and Parmy will be better, but Hendriks makes the biggest turnaround. Remember, he is 2 years younger than Gibson still.
  14. Chrome sucks a dick. Not really, I'm just pissed about it. It is noticeably faster and I love the apps and such. I feel like FF has better ad-ons and ability to customize. Also, Chrome not having Adobe's convert to PDF really kills it for me. I constantly have to convert web pages and print them for work because I work with on-line databases through another company. Converting to PDF allows me to save/print for proof on my timecards. Working in wind is weird. Anyway, Chrome can't do it for some reason. Also, Chrome has this weird bug on my computer that when I sign in to facebook it likes and follows a bunch of weird ****. It is only on Chrome and it happened on both my laptops. I can't explain it. Changed my password like 5 times and it still happens so I don't use Chrome anymore. Also, the drop down bar with FF I use constantly.
  15. Those guys don't want to come to teams like the Twins.
  16. Twins media machine working its magic. Love seeing articles like this.
  17. In qualified players yes. In reality no. I think Hicks will be good, especially as a potential GG CF that posts a nice OBP and SB. He will be a good player, I have my doubts about his contact rate and power.
  18. Nice job AJ. It would be awesome to get regular articles like this from you. It really is amazing that we are able to connect so easily in our generation.
  19. I hate you so much right. This article is a joke. This guy obviously knows nothing about the Twins. I don't disagree with everything he wrote, but blasting Parmelee, not even mentioning Benson, suggesting Perkins should start, not even mentioning Hendriks, this guy is clueless about this team. The only "D" grade I can agree with is starting pitching, even then I say it is a D+ with potential to be better with some luck. I'm as disappointed as anyone about the lack of attention to the ML roster, but at least there is promise here. This team could be competitive as early as next season. I'm hoping JR is saving money this offseason to sign some good starting pitching next....
  20. So .286/.384/.460 with 32 SB is a brilliant season? Good yes, brilliant... I wouldn't go that far. I still want him to hit exclusively as a RH.
  21. You are being too low on Harden I think. Only 4% chance to go north with the twins? I see it closer to 60% at this point. If he is healthy he will start with the Twins and pitch his way off the team. They've kept much worse pitchers on the roster until finally releasing them. I see them letting him try to start and with the smallest hint of breaking down they move him to the pen (or when Gibson is ready).
  22. Brignac career minor league OPS .771 Florimon career minor league OPS .675. I have a pretty good feeling Brignac can hit better than Florimon. He also has about the same range factor and a slightly better fielding %. He might not turn out any better, but if you're going to scrap heap to find starting pitching competition might as well do it for the most inept position on your team as well.
  23. Maybe. At least getting a guy like him with some actual talent the Twins would be doing a low-risk move to add some depth to the MI. I don't like Florimon very much. I don't think he would see the light of day on many MLB teams. At least Brignac has had some success. This is the slash stats for SS in 2012 for the Twins 597 AB's .226/.277/.303..... tell me that isn't an unbelievable stat. In 2011 OPS of .612, 2010 OPS of .692 (traded away for bucket of balls). So yes, I think Brignac has a chance to be better than what we have. I'm not looking for him to post an OPS of .700 even, just .650 would be better than what we've seen the past 2 seasons.
  24. Yes! More kindling to the fire on the Twins training personnel! They seriously do themselves no favors. I don't mind really. I think we'll see Worley, Correia, Hendriks, Pelfrey and Harden. I've had enough of De Vries, Deduno and all the other POS pitchers that logged innings last season. Pelfrey needs to prove he can pitch and will want to start in the MLB right away, and Harden deserves a shot to start out of the gate and if he has set-backs move him to the pen and let him be a shut-down set-up guy.
  25. I just read this entire ****ing thread. Surprisingly, it was fun to read the back-and-forth about this topic (which BTW was a complete hijacking). I'm in a different boat. I just don't think you can say one statistic for a pitcher is the most important. There are too many variables and if you want one all-encompassing stat, I personally like xFIP. I take the Correia signing as a result of the complete implosion of the starting pitching last season. If the Twins would have got Marcum or another SP that actually had talent it wouldn't look as bad. My problem is they didn't get one of those type of players, not that they signed a guy they felt can give them around 200 mediocre innings (which yes, are valuable to any team). I didn't find Ryan to be very frontal about anything in this article really. His answers are still pretty vague just a little more honest I guess. I find it odd that he is frustrated about getting to the playoffs so often without reaching a WS yet he has kept Gardy around all this time. I don't feel he is as plugged in as he portrays. The Twins have a huge problem identifying free agent SP and drafting high quality SP. Until these two things can I don't feel this team will win.
