  1. Sano has the most power in the entire minors... Benson is 2 seasons removed from hitting 28 HR's and OPSing almost .900 in AA. I don't see why he doesn't deserve to be on this list?
  2. Yes they did. Did they look like a couple tools on the Mets broadcast too?
  3. Greatest come-back ever coming up.
  4. Quentin is a little bitch. Too bad Greinke got hurt. I have to wonder in this scenario if the Dodgers could win a lawsuit against Quentin? I don't know the legal system well enough, but if they could prove he was directly responsible for a loss in capital for assault, they might win. Just throwing it out there.
  5. I meant that OF would be the worst defensive OF in the MLB lol.... but they could hit!
  6. What will keep him from being promoted to AA this season? Most likely, his glove at 3b. If the Twins would be willing to abandon 3b and let him learn LF/RF/1b in AA then fine, let him play 3b. I just don't want another issue where a guy has to learn a new position in AAA/MLB like Plouffe and Parmelee in 2012, Cuddyer before them. The Twins should know better by now. Maybe he had the tools, but as his body has developed... and will continue to develop, he might not have them anymore.
  7. Ahh, damnit I knew that. I looked at it wrong. The first time he was drafted was 29th by Oakland, but he didn't sign.
  8. Wow. Arcia just keeps destroying AAA pitching. I really wish he was ready to go from day 1 in spring training.... and that he could play CF! Imagine an OF of Willingham, Arcia, Parmelee! I think the Twins need to just call him up and make Willingham the full-time DH. Arcia>Doumit IMO. Let Mauer DH against tough RH pitchers and rest the other days.
  9. There are guys like Zunino coming up that will break this.
  10. Joe is 30 this year. A HS catcher will be 18. Could he be ready in 4 years? Maybe. That would put Joe at 34, and his skills as a C would have deteriorated pretty drastically by then. I don't think the Twins should really worry about Joe staying at C once he gets into his mid-30's. Plus, how about bringing a rookie catcher up only to have a HOFer, one of the best ever, to ask questions to.
  11. It might be time to end the Sano at 3b era. Put him in LF and let him learn it now, so he can move up and play for the Twins sooner. I've lost all hope for him to stay at 3b. Any comment on Rosario? I'm more hopeful he can stat at 2b.
  12. You must live in a retirement home down there... *couldn't resist
  13. Gardy already ripped Hicks for something he didn't do? Awesome job Gardy. Glad we have you around to give these young guys confidence. Hicks absolutely hustled on that play. I was actually impressed with his hustle. I hate this method of managing. Gardy has done this with young players over and over again. This is one of the main reasons I wanted Hicks in AAA to start the year, where I bet he'd be struggling as well.
  14. I'm right there with you. Hicks has been much worse than I thought he would, and I didn't think he was going to do very well to start out. Too bad Benson is doing so poorly and Arcia can't play CF lol.
  15. For future reference, never blow anything in my direction. Thanks.
  16. Mobile skin on the S3 for me. Never has loaded the full version.
  17. First, a major obstacle for prospects is to stop excess movement at the plate. The only movement you want, is movement toward the ball. Extra movement causes flaws in the swing. The timing thing is different for everybody. Gary Shefield had huge movement in his bat, but when the pitch was being delivered he always returned to the same cocked position. Parker has some articles with good examples of eliminating movement in swings. Second, WTF are you talking about? lag-loop-lag? As a hitter, you hit by taking your hands through the ball. The bat is an extension of your hands. The motion is completely different than swinging a racket. I am having a big problem with your explanation of hitting. You generate power by hip rotation and follow through, I'd guess that tennis isn't that much different. I feel like the fundamentals of a swing are just not the same. In tennis you are moving side to side, generated power comes from leverage. Baseball you are stationary and generated power comes from the hips. The swings attempt to accomplish different things. Maybe I am off-base since I don't know a ton about tennis. Just looking at youtube explanations they are too different.
  18. I would be OK with signing a catcher first if they think the kid is the real deal. I know the bust rate is pretty high but that doesn't mean a guy can't make it. Plus, Mauer is going to move from C at some point. The next pick would then be crucial to get a pitcher.
  19. I disagree with you about both points. Mauer's defense wasn't spectacular last season, but he was also coming off weakness in his legs, which I think affected his entire game. I expect him to be much better this year, evidence by the opposite field HR last night. I also don't agree with your assessment of Hendriks. His problem is nibbling, like Slowey used to. When he tries to paint a corner and misses (slight location problem I guess) he comes back and does it again and again instead of going after hitters and being aggressive. I think he has better stuff than Slowey, his curve looks like a nice pitch when he uses it. Pitching like Slowey is difficult. Slowey was only successful when he started to trust his stuff and not tiptoe around hitters. I know Slowey and Mauer didn't get along very well, but he had success when Mauer caught him. This is why I believe Mauer would be better for Hendriks than Doumit.
  20. Did you watch the team from 2002 to 2010?
  21. Maybe, data says otherwise. How much evidence do you need? In 5 more years it should be even more clear, but I don't know of any hot prospects or hot young players that buck this trend.
  22. thrylos, we all explained our criteria for an Ace. Kab and I have 25 players (him 25, 24 for me). Perhaps if we badger Oxtung enough he will agree to loosen his criteria and we can all agree. Kab, I do think things changed that drastically. The main things I can attribute: the internet, cell phones, money in the game, steroids, sabermetrics. I believe they all had a significant influence on scouting players and drafting and continue to do so. We can only wait and see, but I firmly believe this trend will continue.
  23. Oxtung has acknowledged his definition is strict. Kab, I believe you and I both listed 24 pitchers. Interestingly enough, this larger sample still shows the same trends. It is not as drastic because limiting it too far down results in can't-miss guys that get snatched up right away. Mostly with having this discussion, the split we see at 2001 is intriguing. Since the data held up with pitchers and position players, I think we are seeing a trend. It shouldn't be surprising. Guys drafted in the first rounds should end up better, that is why they are drafted there. The "missed" prospects are going to be fewer and further between. Also, it looks like you have a better chance of finding a position player that develops than a pitcher.
