  1. Magic is really hard to pull off on television. It works better in books, because the author can rely on the reader's imagination to fill in the gaps that creates a greater sense of realism. Additionally, an author can fill in the history and how things work through an informed narrator. One false choice or bad CGI moment breaks the "Fourth Wall" of television. Given that GoT is really character based, I don't mind that the show is moving away from it's magical elements to conclude.
  2. Yeah, after he got the Night King's attention why continue to warg. Hopefully this is explained...
  3. And that our origin story is ESPN? Jesus, give me another. I left ESPN for DTFC when I found it, and actually learned about BYTO from a fantasy league I was in from my ESPN days. But all roads lead here. It's also interesting to see us all grow. I was college aged when I first encountered the ESPN community and here I am post 40. (I actually worry about keeping track of you all (even Levi).)
  4. As an aside, as far as the inter realms go, this is a cool thing, and I look forward to the next couple of decades arguing with you saps, err trusted friends.
  5. One of the unfortunate circumstance in many states is that possession of child pornography is punished much harsher than acts of rape/molest of children themselves. It's often because each image is charged as a separate crime, and each sentence must be served consecutively.
  6. That's fair. As Brock has said, some of us just have known each other for nearly two decades. I'm sure you'd regard people you trust's reasons for not revealing differently than an internet forum poster. Let's not belabor the discussion. I appreciate your cynicism, but I also respect Ben's need for privacy; it's the context of prosecutions generally that allows me to give it weight; I don't blame you for not sharing that POV.
  7. They did a good job of both setting it up and disguising that ending. Great story-telling/pacing.
  8. Dudes!! That was a film. So much.
  9. Well, certainly Ben's opinion doesn't make me adopt that she should be disbarred, but it does suggest something highly problematic, and combined with my distaste for prosecutors-turned-politicians generally, I can't see me supporting her in the primary. Prosecutors are notorious for hiding exculpatory evidence, using interrogations as evidence of uncoerced self-confession etc. with little-to-no accountability. So it's a very believable all to common tale.
  10. I don't disagree. But you have to weigh the harm of NOT saying something against the harm of saying something incomplete. Ben's earned some latitude with me in that regard, so I trust him to that he balanced the costs and made a moral decision.
  11. Or he's respecting the privacy of people he knows!
  12. They could, but as you suggest, that candidate would lose. The base isn't rational, and they are loyal to Trump. If these Republicans want to get their party back, they need to stomach voting for Democrat and annihilating Trump at the polls, so that his philosophy is totally non-viable.
  13. I think people are looking for justification in vilifying a certain subgroup rather than actually wanting to solve the problem. As I said, we could hold people accountable who hire illegal with strict criminal liability, and plenty of others have offered ideas as well, and largely the good ideas have been ignored in favor of putting on a spotlight on the problem, and keeping that spotlight there so the anger is justified.
  14. I'm also not tolerant of intolerance. Sue me. (And the alternative is what, you get to tell people how to post, and then call us all hypocrites when we call you out?)
  15. What Would Chicken Do? (I know, I know, winner winner...)
  16. He liked my post. You are arguing against a straw man. (And you really got stop it with the telling other people how to post thing.)
  17. You're conflating public consumption of police misconduct with holding them accountable. Transparency is so that organizations like the ACLU and the victims of police misconduct can hold them accountable, not to air a police officer's dirty laundry on facebook. (Again it's not about whether you or I know about it; it's about whether some one in a position to hold the officer accountable knows about it, so we can get justice for the victim and make sure the officer doesn't continue such misconduct). If police officer commits crimes (and is caught) he has no right to privacy, just like any person who commits a crime. Of course, it is more egregious when an officer commits a crime because they are in a position of public trust.
  18. Harper's is a long running credible publication, no need to hedge. Haven't read the article but I do intend to.
  19. Alright, Mr. Snowflake. "Accusatory stance...in general." Lol.
  20. Somewhat relatedly: https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/pretty-serious-development
  21. Thanks for pointing this out. As well meaning as everyone here is, we lose sight of this, because, well, you are the only female poster around here. I'm not sure how well Bernie or the others males connect with women, but they don't have Biden's baggage (even if not on the level of Trump, no one deserves to be touched how they do not want to be touched (or smelled?)).
  22. I saw today somewhere (probably twitter) that Hill would never accept his apology.
  23. Nor is the ability to serve one's country. The issue does't turn on whether something is a right or not.
  24. No one here is making those kind of comments so it's completely irrelevant. If you want to shame those people feel free to do so on a variety of social media platforms. This thread is about holding cops accountable for the actual wrongs they've done, as local communities are not doing so, and Trump evidently will not do so.
