  1. I wasn't drawing any conclusions about Lannan; I simply gave his stat line in similar fashion to the OP. You're right. What was I thinking?! Well, golly, I guess we should have signed him, then.
  2. Sorry to be the party-pooper, but I'd rather not.
  3. He probably gets moved up. Though his promotion is probably contingent on the evolution of his defense.
  4. The good ole google fallacy, touche'. Perfect form indeed. We're clearly at an impasse, so there's no need to carry on.
  5. Given that you've studied so earnestly and thoroughly, you must be able to direct us to such evidence very easily, indeed. You made the contention that the Twins whined to the media, the onus is on you to provide evidence. Without such, I'll consider the statement retracted and the matter closed. So if you want to leave it at that, we can.
  6. My (existing) point is that you don't have any actual evidence to support your derisive contention that the Twins whined to the media (oh how sad, oh how pathetic!).
  7. Everything else? Surely, then, you can find something in print that supports the notion that the Twins 'whining' was both pathetic and sad. I may very well be wrong, but I can't recall anything that resembled 'whining to the media' from the Twins FO, much less that it was so craven that it was sad and pathetic.
  8. Well, what are you basing that on, if not the interview?
  9. This is a blatant misrepresentation of the interview. The interview was neither pathetic nor sad. He sounds neither bitter nor incompetent. Sure there's some obscurity that's necessary when anyone discusses how they operate their business. I thought Anthony was frank all things considered. He certainly could have been far more terse and eager to toe the company line.
  10. I think his playoff performance matters more than people are acknowledging. I think he'll eventually get in, despite the steroids use--that he's pitching into his 40s after admitting use, and his betrayal of Clemens probably work in his favor.
  11. Lannan 3 starts, 0-1, 6.14 ERA (68 ERA+), 14.2 IP , 4.3 K/9 -- I like the idea of keeping track of these guys. And I think a look at the list--if it tells anything--suggests that identifying good value in middle-tier free agent pitchers is a really difficult thing to do with any precision or consistency, and as the sample size becomes more useful, I think this conclusion only becomes more concrete.
  12. So we can't evaluate a trade until a prospect reaches the major leagues? While there's some truth to the notion, it's silly. IMO, getting a "potential ace" is a good get for a ML CFer, whether or not the potential is fulfilled.
  13. I was wrong to use phrase like "real" fans. Who knows what that means? My bad. But I still contend that this thread was born out of indecency and strange ego. I'd rather not see this kind thing, but maybe we're all fine with it, which strikes me as very sad.
  14. Seriously, the the treatment of Slowey is common place among ML baseball. Get over it. Do you think the Mets fans are boo-hooing the treatment of Pelfry? Do you think Colorado or Cleveland is basking in their own tears over losing Slowey? Just stop. Again, this thread is nothing but strutting egos and shaming real fans. It's a shame really. It's the same people who do this crap over and over...
  15. Right. But that doesn't fit into the narrative that the Twins don't know what they are doing. It's fine to note that Slowey has turned himself around (maybe!), but to critique the Twins while ignoring that he had two stints with two other clubs before signing a minor league deal with the Marlins seems purposefully inflammatory. Maybe it's not quite trolling, but the whole premise of the thread seems disingenuous to me.
  16. You definitely got a steal. Plenty of people still have unreasonable fear of Rockies pitching.
  17. Please tell me, how else have the Twins done wrong?
  18. What those people really want is for people to believe them before hand, and for everyone to accept that KC's failure is an inevitability. There's some pretty cynical folks that post here, but it's rude to pyschoanalyze, so we should probably stop.
  19. Look, while I believe it was perfectly legitimate to put KC back out there in the eighth, I don't buy any of this "that he'll learn from his mistakes" or that it was "his game to lose" nonsense.
  20. Do you think this had more to do with Correia's inability to pitch passed the seventh inning or due to that we was lifted for a pinch hitter? This reminds me of the Mackey article that suggest the same, but fails to mention that Correia pitched exactly six innings or more 16 times. The fact that Correia was pitching in the national league has more to do with why he didn't pitch late into games than say his lack of ability. Correia coming out for the 8th made sense; it's only in hindsight and our former unbridled hate of Correia that second-guessing seems legitimate.
  21. Right. As far as the data, we are just stuck. Some of us--because of our principles, our experience, our silly tendency to believe that such a thing as 'aces' is quantifiable (if I only could discern it)--are unwilling to draw conclusions from the modest amount data, even if that's all we have. I'm speculating, but I imagine if we looked at any player position, we'd see a similar break down of where the 'stars' (as opposed to 'aces') were drafted and acquired. So, on a hunch really, I'm willing to contend that the standard differentiation of acquiring starting pitching is no greater than position players. If you want to contend that it's very difficult to acquire all-star or hall-of-fame level players and that the Twins might not be doing everything right in their quest for such players, well you're probably right. There are few opportunities to acquire top of the rotation pitching as there are few opportunities to acquire top of the line position players. If we're honestly asking the question of the Twins capacity to acquire ace pitchers; I'm encouraged by the acquisition of Meyer and May, the drafting Berrios. Let's remember the Twins have picked in the bottom half of the draft for a decade, during that time they acquired Liriano and Santana on the stupid cheap. Certainly there's any number of clubs that do so much better, but let's also not pretend that there's some ready-made formula for the successful acquisition of star players.
  22. I honestly don't know much about our fifth round pick from last year. Does Duffy have former accolades or a track record that might lead us to hope that he might be a legitimate pitching prospect?
  23. Look, we like to hate on this, but the Twins have shown some credible prudence in their pitching acquisitions thus far. There's already a backlog of "soon to be available" pitchers, from Diamond to Deduno, to even Gibson. And that's not counting the emergence of someone like Meyer or May. Or the long shots of Harden and Perez. Simply there's no need for Harang. The pitching depth does seem thin currently, but that will soon change, and for the benefit of the team. Edit: Contrary to my opinion:
  24. It might seem like a sample-size witticism to some, but this team is clearly better than the what's been presented last two years. Being competitive is probably unrealistic, but an eighty win season seems to be in reach. Having healthy pitchers and meaningful production from Plouffe, Parmelee, and Dozier makes this team so much more "watchable," or rather puts the team in a position to win games. Go Twins.
  25. Nice debut by Meyer. 5 IP, 8 Ks, 1 ER, 1BB Arcia and Colebello still knocking it around. So are Rosario and Sano.
